Tarski monoids: Matui's spatial realization theorem
We introduce a class of inverse monoids, called Tarski monoids, that can be
regarded as non-commutative generalizations of the unique countable, atomless
Boolean algebra. These inverse monoids are related to a class of etale
topological groupoids under a non-commutative generalization of classical Stone
duality and, significantly, they arise naturally in the theory of dynamical
systems as developed by Matui. We are thereby able to reinterpret a theorem of
Matui on a class of \'etale groupoids as an equivalent theorem about a class of
Tarski monoids: two simple Tarski monoids are isomorphic if and only if their
groups of units are isomorphic. The inverse monoids in question may also be
viewed as countably infinite generalizations of finite symmetric inverse
monoids. Their groups of units therefore generalize the finite symmetric groups

Information system support in construction industry with semantic web technologies and/or autonomous reasoning agents
Information technology support is hard to find for the early design phases of the architectural design process. Many of the existing issues in such design decision support tools appear to be caused by a mismatch between the ways in which designers think and the ways in which information systems aim to give support. We therefore started an investigation of existing theories of design thinking, compared to the way in which design decision support systems provide information to the designer. We identify two main strategies towards information system support in the early design phase: (1) applications for making design try-outs, and (2) applications as autonomous reasoning agents. We outline preview implementations for both approaches and indicate to what extent these strategies can be used to improve information system support for the architectural designer
Renal fibrosis in feline chronic kidney disease: known mediators and mechanisms of injury
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a common medical condition of ageing cats. In most cases the underlying aetiology is unknown, but the most frequently reported pathological diagnosis is renal tubulointerstitial fibrosis. Renal fibrosis, characterised by extensive accumulation of extra-cellular matrix within the interstitium, is thought to be the final common pathway for all kidney diseases and is the pathological lesion best correlated with function in both humans and cats. As a convergent pathway, renal fibrosis provides an ideal target for the treatment of CKD and knowledge of the underlying fibrotic process is essential for the future development of novel therapies. There are many mediators and mechanisms of renal fibrosis reported in the literature, of which only a few have been investigated in the cat. This article reviews the process of renal fibrosis and discusses the most commonly cited mediators and mechanisms of progressive renal injury, with particular focus on the potential significance to feline CKD
Non-commutative Complex Projective Spaces and the Standard Model
The standard model fermion spectrum, including a right handed neutrino, can
be obtained as a zero-mode of the Dirac operator on a space which is the
product of complex projective spaces of complex dimension two and three. The
construction requires the introduction of topologically non-trivial background
gauge fields. By borrowing from ideas in Connes' non-commutative geometry and
making the complex spaces `fuzzy' a matrix approximation to the fuzzy space
allows for three generations to emerge. The generations are associated with
three copies of space-time. Higgs' fields and Yukawa couplings can be

Dirac operator on -Minkowski space bicovariant differential calculus and deformed U(1) gauge theory
Derivation of -Poincare bicovariant commutation relations between
coordinates and 1-forms on -Minkowski space is given using Dirac
operator and Allain Connes formula. The deformed U(1) gauge theory and
appearance of an additional spin 0 gauge field is discussed
Qubits as spectrometers of dephasing noise
We present a procedure for direct characterization of the dephasing noise
acting on a single qubit by making repeated measurements of the qubit coherence
under suitably chosen sequences of controls. We show that this allows a
numerical reconstruction of the short time noise correlation function and that
it can be combined with a series of measurements under free evolution to allow
a characterization of the noise correlation function over many orders of
magnitude range in timescale. We also make an analysis of the robustness and
reliability of the estimated correlation functions. Application to a simple
model of two uncorrelated noise fluctuators using decoupling pulse sequences
shows that the approach provides a useful route for experimental
characterization of dephasing noise and its statistical properties in a variety
of condensed phase and atomic systems.Comment: 10 pages, 3 figure
Spin-Orbit Pendulum: the Microscopic Stern-Gerlach Effect
The motion of a particle with a spin in spherical harmonic oscillator
potential with spin-orbit interaction is studied. We have focus our attention
on spatial motion of wave packets, giving a description complementary to motion
of spin discussed already in [1]. The particular initial conditions studied
here lead to the most transparent formulas and can be treated analytically. A
strong analogy with the Stern-Gerlach experiment is suggested. [1] R.Arvieu and

Assays with Commercially Produced Trichogramma (Hymenoptera: Trichogrammatidae) To Determine Suitability for Obliquebanded Leafroller (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae) Control
Laboratory assays were used to compare the ability of commercially produced Trichogramma spp. to parasitize eggs of the obliquebanded leafroller, Choristoneura rosaceana (Harris), in the laboratory and field. Trichogramma platneri Nagarkatti parasitized more obliquebanded leafroller eggs per egg mass than did Trichogramma pretiosum Riley or Trichogramma minutum Riley produced by either of 2 insectaries. T. minutum produced at 1 insectary caused significantly more host mortality by host feeding and repiercing than by parasitism. Variation in parasitoid performance from different insectaries and among shipments from the same insectary was common. Young egg masses were more heavily parasitized than old egg masses. Parasitism increased as the number of conspecific female Trichogramma spp. placed on the same host increased, but the number of eggs parasitized per female decreased. Exposure of host egg masses to female Trichogramma spp. prevented additional oviposition in the same egg mass by conspecific, ovipositionally experienced females but had no effect on parasitism by conspecific, ovipositionally naive females. The method used to attach sentinel egg masses to foliage influenced parasitism rates. Moistening the leaf with water and adhering the egg mass to the moistened leaf had the least impact. Inundative releases of Trichogramma spp. into an apple orchard paralleled laboratory assays by showing greater parasitism of obliquebanded leafroller egg masses by T. platneri than with T. minutum. However, extreme differences observed in field performance between the 2 species was not predicted from the assay
