Place des thérapeutiques complémentaires et alternatives dans les dermatites atopiques
As widely used by patients as they are criticised by doctors, complementary therapies do not feature in any recommendations or consensus conferences due to the lack of strong evidence of their efficacy. However, some of these therapies can represent a credible alternative depending on the individuals. They can form part of patients’ personalised care, notably those suffering from atopic dermatitis
Prise en charge officinale de la dermatite atopique
The treatment of atopic dermatitis in the community pharmacy is not simply a case of dispensing medication. It is also important to develop prevention strategies for people at high risk (primary prevention), as well as for individuals with a recently diagnosed atopic allergy (secondary prevention)

Design and stability study of a paediatric oral solution of methotrexate 2mg/ml
Oral paediatric forms development by pharmaceutical industry is still insufficient. The present study was performed to propose an adapted and pleasant formulation of liquid oral formulation of MTX. The solution is composed of injectable methotrexate, water, Ora Sweet(®) and sodium bicarbonate. After 120 days storage, pH remained stable at about 8 in all formulations, insuring no risk of MTX precipitation. MTX content in solution formulation, determined by high performance liquid chromatography measurements, remained in the specifications of >90% of the initial concentration when stored at 4 and 25°C. Forced degradation of MTX by heat and acidic conditions allowed formation and detection of degradation products by the analytical method. Microbial study of the preparation shows that the solution remains in the specifications during all the storage, or after one sample each week during one month, eventually indicating the microbial properties are not affected by patient use. To conclude, we here propose a new MTX liquid formulation stable for at least 120 days
Association between vitamin D deficiency and long hospital stay in geriatric acute care unit: results from a pilot cohort study
Finding a biomarker of long length-of-stay (LOS) would provide a simple solution to target frail older inpatients at such risk. The aim of this study was to determine whether serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25OHD) deficiency, defined as serum concentration <25 nmol/L, was associated with long LOS among inpatients admitted to a geriatric acute care unit. Three hundred and six older inpatients (mean age 84.6 +/- 6.4 years, 61.8 % women) were consecutively included in this longitudinal prospective cohort study. Patients were separated into two groups according to LOS tertiles: highest tertile (>= 14 days; n = 120) versus the other two tertiles combined (<14 days; n = 186). Serum 25OHD deficiency (58.3 vs. 38.7 %, P = 0.001) and the prevalence of male gender (58.3 vs. 28.5 %, P < 0.001) were higher among inpatients with the highest LOS compared with those with lower LOS. Serum 25OHD deficiency [odds ratio (OR) = 2.22, P = 0.001 for unadjusted model; OR = 1.87, P = 0.012 for fully adjusted model) and male gender (OR = 2.87, P < 0.001 for unadjusted model; OR = 2.64, P = 0.001 for full model) were associated with a high LOS. Vitamin D deficiency and male gender were risk factors for a long LOS in this pilot study. Using these risk factors to identify inpatients at risk of long LOS may be helpful in adapting early care plans, and thus improving inpatients\u27 health and shortening LOS
The gas temperature in flaring disks around pre-main sequence stars
A model is presented which calculates the gas temperature and chemistry in
the surface layers of flaring circumstellar disks using a code developed for
photon-dominated regions. Special attention is given to the influence of dust
settling. It is found that the gas temperature exceeds the dust temperature by
up to several hundreds of Kelvins in the part of the disk that is optically
thin to ultraviolet radiation, indicating that the common assumption that
Tgas=Tdust is not valid throughout the disk. In the optically thick part, gas
and dust are strongly coupled and the gas temperature equals the dust
temperature. Dust settling has little effect on the chemistry in the disk, but
increases the amount of hot gas deeper in the disk. The effects of the higher
gas temperature on several emission lines arising in the surface layer are
examined. The higher gas temperatures increase the intensities of molecular and
fine-structure lines by up to an order of magnitude, and can also have an
important effect on the line shapes.Comment: 14 pages, 10 figures, accepted for publication in A&
