The Reliability of Certain Scales for Measuring Attitudes

A list of 100 words were checked for five degrees of preference by 118 adult male subjects of post-college age. The attitude categories were arbitrarily called; liberal, socialistic, sports, risk and annoyance, law enforcement, racial and religious, and cultural. The reliability coefficients ranged from +.77 down to +.29. The highest reliabilities were found for the attitudes of law enforcement, liberalism, and risk and annoyance. Diplomacia y ética política: textos prudenciales de Felipe II, Juan de Mariana y Joseph Creswell durante las Guerras de Religión de Francia (1562-1598) y la Guerra Anglo-Española (1585-1604)

A diferencia de obras estéticas, cuyas impresiones en el receptor son ‘indiferentes’, según Kant, los textos ético-políticos causan un surplus de afecciones. Este es el caso de reales declaraciones o proclamaciones de guerra, specula principum y peticiones laico-eclesiásticas. Analizamos el fin, siempre ambiguo; el género literario, generalmente maleable; y los múltiples efectos en receptores de obras políticas de reyes como Felipe II y Enrique IV, y eclesiásticos como los jesuitas Juan de Mariana y Joseph Creswell. Estas obras modularon la historia al suscitar diversos efectos perlocutivos en sus destinatarios durante las Guerras de Religión de Francia (1562-1598) y la Guerra Anglo-Española (1585-1604)

Una obra tardía calderoniana como el auto sacramental El tesoro escondido (1679 refleja el punto culminante del estilo retórico de Pedro Calderón de la Barca. En este ensayo se hace hincapié en las estrategias retóricas más sobresalientes de este auto, con especial énfasis en las siguientes: la acumulación, el epíteto, la etimología, la exclamación, la interrogación, la metáfora y el paralelismo. La riqueza de los recursos retóricos calderonianos está todavía por estudiarse a fondo en todas sus dimensiones. Se espera que este breve estudio sobre varias figuras retóricas manifestadas en este auto sea de alguna utilidad para apreciar o entender de forma óptima su complejo y eficaz sistema retórico. // A late calderonian work like the auto sacramental entitled El tesoro escondido (1679) reflects the culminating point of Pedro Calderón de la Barca’s rhetorical style. This essay emphasizes the most significant rhetorical strategies used in this auto, stressing in particular the following: accumulation, epithet, etymology, exclamation, interrogation, metaphor, and parallelism. The richness of Calderón’s rhetorical devices has yet to be studied in all its dimensions. It is the intention of this study that the analysis of several rhetorical figures in this auto proves useful in order to understand in depth Calderón’s complex and efficient rhetorical system
