The current research on aphasia in Malaysia can be divided into two areas. One is carried out by research personnel of medical units while the other is carried out by university lecturers with linguistic background. The research studies made by both parties are different in terms of research methods and research focus. The researchers at medical units normally carry out aphasia research on stroke patients in most cases. Aphasia is only regarded as one of the symptoms of stroke patients. On the other hand, university lecturers with linguistic backgrounds remove reasons for aphasia and focus on aphasia itself instead of discussing reasons for the occurrence of stroke among aphasic patients. Malaysia has various researchers from different backgrounds who focus on aphasia. The researcher has found a lot of relevant data in this area. Meanwhile, many students with a background in liberal art and science have engaged in research in this area and these include undergraduate students, graduate students, and doctoral students. There are more doctoral students graduating from foreign universities and majoring in aphasia than those graduating from local universities. There are many doctoral students who graduated from universities in London, New Zealand, and other places. The aphasic patients who have been studied are those who speak Malay, Arabic, Hindi language and Minangkabau respectively. However, it was really surprising to find that there is no documented research on Chinese aphasic patients. Although there are few Chinese students conducting research in this area, there were no Chinese aphasic subjects. The absence of Chinese aphasic patients could possibly be due to the researcher’s failure to speak or understand Malaysian Chinese or failure in searching for suitable Chinese aphasic patients

The purpose of this paper is to explore students’ views of online learning based on a theoretical framework known as Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). It is mainly qualitative in nature alongside some quantitative data. It examines students’ preference for their choice of learning mode for the post-COVID-19 period or when they are in a position to return to the campus when the pandemic situation improves. They are also asked to provide reasons for their preference. The research data was collected at a local university in Malaysia through an interview with 41 respondents. The results of the research show that the majority of the student respondents prefer to have hybrid learning that offers a combination of online and face-to-face sessions followed by fully face-to-face learning mode. No respondent has opted for fully online learning as their preferred choice of learning mode in the near future. In general, the respondents perceive that online learning is creative, innovative, convenient, time-saving and eco-friendly. However, as emerged in the data, in relation to online learning, students have two major concerns, namely additional cost incurred for the high usage of the Internet data and poor/no Internet connection at rural areas. The findings further reveal that institutional support, technology accessibility and COVID-19 concern are the three external factors that have influenced the respondents’ attitude and intention in using online learning in the near future. Higher institutions thus can play an important role in enhancing students’ online learning by upgrading the existing learning management system and the campus Internet connectivity

Building Information Modelling (BIM) is a very useful tool that facilitates architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) professionals and stakeholders in planning, designing and constructing the buildings through 3D models. BIM can be widened to building operations and data storage which can be accessible by owners and others. Such data help owners and stakeholders to generate results according to the information gained through BIM models. The objectives of this study were to identify the perspective of students on drivers of BIM incorporation into the quantity surveying profession and to identify the perspective of students on benefits of BIM incorporation into the quantity surveying profession. A questionnaire survey was carried out to gain the students’ perspective on drivers and benefits of BIM incorporation into the quantity surveying profession in Klang Valley, Malaysia. Specifically, this study investigated twelve drivers and fourteen benefits of BIM incorporation into the quantity surveying profession. The top three drivers were improving the capacity to provide whole-life value to the client, desire for innovation to remain competitive and strong support from university management and industry. The top three benefits were BIM provides fast, effective and efficient quantity take-off and cost estimation, time savings in the preparation of estimating cost and improved visualization for better understanding of designs for measurement and minimise omissions. For future research, it is recommended that the study be replicated at other regions so that a clearer view of this topic can be obtained. Besides, qualitative research methods could be used in identifying other drivers and benefits not covered in this study. By answering the questions in the survey form, the students were able to gain some knowledge on BIM and its importance to the quantity surveying profession. Also, it would be interesting to include industrial practitioners in this kind of study, allowing comparisons of the results between academia and industry at a later stage. Nonetheless, this study benefited the undergraduate students pursuing the Bachelor of Science (Hons) Quantity Surveying programme, universities, colleges and other institutions that offered the quantity surveying programmes at various levels and quantity surveyors working in the construction industry by exposing them to a comprehensive list of drivers and benefits of BIM incorporation into quantity surveying profession. In a way, this study helped promoted BIM and its implementation in the field of quantity surveying in Klang Valley, Malaysia

Rhetorical strategies used in Malay research article conclusions

This paper explains a combination of genre-based knowledge and evaluative stance in the context of academic arguments used in the conclusion sections of Malay research articles. For this purpose, it draws on an analysis of the features in Appraisal theory (Martin & Rose, 2003) together with a move analysis (Swales, 1990, 2004). The data comprises empirical research articles. The conformity with the standard IMRD (Introduction- Method- Results- Discussion) is taken as the first similar feature when selecting the set of empirical research articles from the selected journals. Among others, the findings observe that evaluative stances produce rhetorical effects in Malay conclusions. When taking a stance, both the evoked Attitudes and inscribed Attitudes are employed. A closer examination shows that the evoked Attitudes and inscribed Attitudes are either used separately or simultaneously to realize a move
