Trends and Tendencies in the Field of Improving the HR-Systems of Hungarian Public Universities

In recent years it has become accepted that, besides traditional success factors, human resource management (HRM/HR) plays an increasingly important role in organizational success and in retaining and improving domestic and international competitiveness (Gordon-Whitchurch, 2007). In the countries of the developed world – especially in the case of anglo-saxon “pioneers” – the public sphere (including universities) has left the normative “bureaucratic-administrative Taylorian” system, that is based on formal regulation, far behind (Farkas et al, 2003). These efforts provided models and experience that were applicable in the transforming countries of Europe, including Hungary. In view of the above, we intended to make a non-exhaustive overview – based on the sources of literature and the practices of 11 Hungarian universities – of the change of the situation of HR and the possibilities of its modernization in this field.higher education; Hungary; New Public Management; HRM; knowledge.

Immunohistochemical Diagnosis of Primary Laryngeal Melanoma as a Rare Malignant Laryngeal Tumour

In this case presentation, the authors discuss the prevalence, diagnosis and surgical treatment of the exceedingly rare primary laryngeal melanoma. The importance of immunohistochemical investigations is emphasised since the condition tends to mimic laryngeal carcinomas. Laryngeal melanomas have a very poor prognosis; their five-year survival is less than 10% in international literature. However, the patient presented in this article is still asymptomatic and has no metastases 7 years after the removal of the lesion with transoral laser microsurgery

Taxonomic status and behavioural documentation of the troglobiont Lithobius matulici (Myriapoda, Chilopoda) from the Dinaric Alps: Are there semiaquatic centipedes in caves?

Lithobius matulici Verhoeff, 1899 is redescribed based on type material and newly collected specimens. Strandiolus jugoslavicus Hoffer, 1937, described from another cave in the same region in Bosnia and Hercegovina, is presented as a junior subjective synonym of L. matulici (syn. nov.). L. matulici is shown to be most closely related to Lithobius remyi Jawlowski, 1933, type species of the subgenus-Thracolithobius Matic, 1962. The completeness of the chitin-lines on the forcipular coxosternite is discussed as a promising character for interspecific differentiation within Lithobiomorpha. Solar-like oscillations in the G2 subgiant beta Hydri from dual-site observations

We have observed oscillations in the nearby G2 subgiant star beta Hyi using high-precision velocity observations obtained over more than a week with the HARPS and UCLES spectrographs. The oscillation frequencies show a regular comb structure, as expected for solar-like oscillations, but with several l=1 modes being strongly affected by avoided crossings. The data, combined with those we obtained five years earlier, allow us to identify 28 oscillation modes. By scaling the large frequency separation from the Sun, we measure the mean density of beta Hyi to an accuracy of 0.6%. The amplitudes of the oscillations are about 2.5 times solar and the mode lifetime is 2.3 d. A detailed comparison of the mixed l=1 modes with theoretical models should allow a precise estimate of the age of the star.Comment: 13 pages, 14 figures, accepted by ApJ. Renal Recovery after the Implementation of an Electronic Alert and Biomarker-Guided Kidney-Protection Strategy following Major Surgery

Background: The facilitation of early recovery of acute kidney injury (AKI) is an important step to improve outcome, particularly because of the limited therapeutic interventions currently available for AKI. The combination of an electronic alert and biomarker-guided kidney-protection strategy implemented in the routine care may have an impact on the incidence of early complete reversal of AKI after major non-cardiac surgery. Methods: We studied 294 patients in two cohorts before (n = 151) and after protocol implementation (n = 143). Data collection required 6 months for each cohort. The kidney-protection protocol included an electronic alert to detect patients who were eligible for urinary biomarker [TIMP2 × IGFBP7]-guided kidney-protection intervention. Intervention was stratified according to three levels of immediate AKI risk: low, moderate, and high. After intervention, postoperative changes in the glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) were identified with a tracking software that included an alert for nephrology consultation if the eGFR had declined by >25% from the preoperative reference value. Primary outcome was early AKI recovery, i.e., the complete reversal of any AKI stage to absence of AKI within the first 7 postoperative days. Results: Protocol implementation significantly increased the recovery of AKI (36/46, 78% compared to control 27/48, 56%, (p = 0.025)) and reduced the length of the ICU stay (p < 0.001). There was no significant difference in the overall incidence of all AKI and moderate and severe AKI in the first 7 postoperative days: 46/143 (32%) and 12/151 (8%) in the protocol implementation group compared to 48/151 (32%) and 18/151 (12%) in the historical control group. Patients with AKI reversal within the first 7 postoperative days had lower in-hospital mortality than patients without AKI reversal. Conclusions: Implementing a combined electronic alert and biomarker-guided kidney-protection strategy in routine care improved early recovery of AKI after major surgery
