Tight junctions: from simple barriers to multifunctional molecular gates

Epithelia and endothelia separate different tissue compartments and protect multicellular organisms from the outside world. This requires the formation of tight junctions, selective gates that control paracellular diffusion of ions and solutes. Tight junctions also form the border between the apical and basolateral plasma-membrane domains and are linked to the machinery that controls apicobasal polarization. Additionally, signalling networks that guide diverse cell behaviours and functions are connected to tight junctions, transmitting information to and from the cytoskeleton, nucleus and different cell adhesion complexes. La rencontre de plusieurs schémas familiaux en Chine contemporaine

The meeting of several family schemes in today's China The author gives an account of three family models at least which coexist in today's China. The first model comes from ancient times, feudal and patriarchal, implying loyalty towards the elders and respect for their word. It combines with a much more modem model stemming from the age of the Reformers and of the Revolution in its essential reforms : the democratization of knowledge easily transmittable to the young thanks to the reform of handwriting and the very real emancipation of women. Lastly, a third model is political, prior to the Revolution, according to which the state has all the rights especially that of all knowing, concerning the individual and the family. Three personal record books materialize this omnipresence : a certificate of residence, a school report book and a production book. From that the status of each family is established. Can we speak of freedom in such conditions? Only Chinese thought and logic, which for centuries have been able to integrate each concept and its contrary, can enable such a complex whole to function.L’auteur rend compte de trois modèles familiaux au moins qui co-existent en Chine contemporaine. Le premier modèle vient du fond des temps, féodal et patriarcal, impliquant la loyauté vis-à-vis des anciens et le respect de leur parole. Il se combine à un modèle beaucoup plus moderne, issu de l'Époque des Réformateurs et de la Révolution, dans ses réformes essentielles : la démocratisation du savoir, aisément transmissible aux jeunes avec la réforme de l'écriture - l'émancipation de la femme, très réelle. Un troisième modèle enfin est politique, bien antérieur à la Révolution, selon lequel l'Etat a tous les droits, notamment celui de tout savoir, de l'individu comme de la famille. Trois livrets personnels matérialisent cette omniprésence : un livret de résidence, un livret scolaire, un livret de production. A partir de là s'établit le statut social de chaque famille. Peut-on parler de liberté dans de telles conditions ? Seule la pensée et la logique chinoises, aptes à intégrer depuis des millénaires chaque concept et son contraire, peut permettre de fonctionner à un ensemble aussi complexe.Larre Claude. Enregistrement des mouvements d'un versant par les spéléothèmes de la grotte du chemin du Castellaras (Le Tignet, Alpes-Maritimes, France)

Recordings of the slope movements by speleothems (Le Tignet, Alpes-Maritimes, France). The study of speleothems in a sub-cutaneous cave developed between a scree and its bedrock, shows the slope movements. All the speleothem couples (stalactite facing a stalagmite) are displaced. Among the speleothems, a 50 cm long thin stalactite (soda-straw type) has recorded the movements that have affected the slope. Every slope movement is shown in a speleothem axis variation. Radiocarbon datings help define growth speed and make clear the movement history over a 30,000 year period. This analysis confirms the possibility of using speleothem as verticality gauges to define an area stability.RÉSUMÉ : L'étude des concrétions d'une cavité sous cutanée développée entre un éboulis de versant et son substratum a permis de mettre en évidence les mouvements du versant. Tous les couples stalactites / stalagmites sont décalés. Parmi les concrétions une stalactite de type fistuleuse a enregistré au cours de sa croissance les mouvements qui ont affecté l'éboulis. Chaque mouvement se traduit par une variation de l'axe de la concrétion. Les datations au radio-carbone permettent de définir une vitesse de croissance et de préciser l'historique du mouvement depuis 30 000 ans. Cette analyse confirme que les spéléothèmes constituent d'intéressants marqueurs de verticalité et peuvent donc être utilisés pour définir la stabilité d'un secteur.Gilli Eric, Mangan Claude, Delange Patrick, Larre P., Evin Jacques.
