This paper seeks to examine the \u27New Woman\u27 beyond her physical appearance. I examine specifically what role sexuality plays in shaping her identity. I do this by examining two films Pandora\u27s Box and Girls in Uniform and two novels The Artificial Silk Girl and The Scorpion. Girls in Uniform and The Scorpion both have homosexual protagonists and by comparing them with the heterosexual protagonists of the other two sources I aim to gather a clearer understanding of how sexuality shapes their identities as New Women
