Trigger and readout electronics for the STEREO experiment
The STEREO experiment will search for a sterile neutrino by measuring the
anti-neutrino energy spectrum as a function of the distance from the source,
the ILL nuclear reactor. A dedicated electronic system, hosted in a single
microTCA crate, was designed for this experiment. It performs triggering in two
stages with various selectable conditions, processing and readout via UDP/IPBUS
of 68 photomultiplier signals continuously digitized at 250 MSPS. Additionally,
for detector performance monitoring, the electronics allow on-line calibration
by driving LED synchronously with the data acquisition. This paper describes

Radio emission of extensive air shower at CODALEMA: Polarization of the radio emission along the v*B vector
Cosmic rays extensive air showers (EAS) are associated with transient radio
emission, which could provide an efficient new detection method of high energy
cosmic rays, combining a calorimetric measurement with a high duty cycle. The
CODALEMA experiment, installed at the Radio Observatory in Nancay, France, is
investigating this phenomenon in the 10^17 eV region. One challenging point is
the understanding of the radio emission mechanism. A first observation
indicating a linear relation between the electric field produced and the cross
product of the shower axis with the geomagnetic field direction has been
presented (B. Revenu, this conference). We will present here other strong

Comment on "On the subtleties of searching for dark matter with liquid xenon detectors"
In a recent manuscript (arXiv:1208.5046) Peter Sorensen claims that
XENON100's upper limits on spin-independent WIMP-nucleon cross sections for
WIMP masses below 10 GeV "may be understated by one order of magnitude or
more". Having performed a similar, though more detailed analysis prior to the
submission of our new result (arXiv:1207.5988), we do not confirm these
findings. We point out the rationale for not considering the described effect
in our final analysis and list several potential problems with his study.Comment: 3 pages, no figure
Observation and applications of single-electron charge signals in the XENON100 experiment
The XENON100 dark matter experiment uses liquid xenon in a time projection chamber (TPC) to measure xenon nuclear recoils resulting from the scattering of dark matter Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs). In this paper, we report the observation of single-electron charge signals which are not related to WIMP interactions. These signals, which show the excellent sensitivity of the detector to small charge signals, are explained as being due to the photoionization of impurities in the liquid xenon and of the metal components inside the TPC. They are used as a unique calibration source to characterize the detector. We explain how we can infer crucial parameters for the XENON100 experiment: the secondary-scintillation gain, the extraction yield from the liquid to the gas phase and the electron drift velocity
Response of the XENON100 Dark Matter Detector to Nuclear Recoils
Results from the nuclear recoil calibration of the XENON100 dark matter detector installed underground at the Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso (LNGS), Italy are presented. Data from measurements with an external 241AmBe neutron source are compared with a detailed Monte Carlo simulation which is used to extract the energy dependent charge-yield Qy and relative scintillation efficiency Leff. A very good level of absolute spectral matching is achieved in both observable signal channels - scintillation S1 and ionization S2 - along with agreement in the 2-dimensional particle discrimination space. The results confirm the validity of the derived signal acceptance in earlier reported dark matter searches of the XENON100 experiment

Improvement of the photocatalytic degradation property of atomic layer deposited ZnO thin films: the interplay between film properties and functional performances:
In this work, we have evidenced the impact of stoichiometry on the photocatalytic properties of ZnO nanofilms grown by atomic layer deposition (ALD). We point out the importance of hydrogen incorporation and propose here a model explaining the presence of Zn-OH impurities in the form of a ZnOxHy amorphous matrix hosting ZnO crystallites. We evidence that this phase prevails in films grown at low temperatures and prevents the photoluminescence and photocatalytic activity of ZnO films. We also point out that high temperature ALD processes promote the preferential growth of ZnO films in the (002) orientation, leading to a significant increase of the film wettability and so their photocatalytic degradation performances
Severe airway stenosis associated with Crohn's disease: Case report
BACKGROUND: Symptomatic respiratory tract involvement is not common in Crohn's disease. Upper-airway obstruction has been reported before in Crohn's disease and usually responds well to steroid treatment. CASE PRESENTATION: We report a case of a 32-year old patient with Crohn's disease who presented with progressively worsening dyspnea on exertion. Magnetic Resonance Imaging of the chest and bronchoscopy revealed severe tracheal stenosis and marked inflammation of tracheal mucosa. Histopathology of the lesion showed acute and chronic inflammation and extended ulceration of bronchial mucosa, without granulomas. Tracheal stenosis was attributed to Crohn's disease after exclusion of other possible causes and oral and inhaled steroids were administered. Despite steroid treatment, tracheal stenosis persisted and only mild symptomatic improvement was noted after 8 months of therapy. The patient subsequently underwent rigid bronchoscopy with successful dilatation and ablation of the stenosed areas and remission of her symptoms. CONCLUSION: Respiratory involvement in Crohn's disease might be more common than appreciated. Interventional pulmonology techniques should be considered in cases of tracheal stenosis due to Crohn's disease refractory to steroid treatment
Genetic polymorphisms in the matrix metalloproteinase 12 gene (MMP12) and breast cancer risk and survival: the Shanghai Breast Cancer Study
INTRODUCTION: Matrix metalloproteinase 12 (MMP12) is a proteolytic enzyme responsible for cleavage of plasminogen to angiotensin, which has an angiostatic effect. Using data from a population-based case–control study conducted among Chinese women in Shanghai, we evaluated the association of breast cancer risk and survival with two common polymorphisms in the MMP12 gene: A-82G in the promoter region and A1082G in exon, resulting in an amino acid change of asparagine to serine. METHODS: Included in the study were 1,129 cases and 1,229 age-frequency-matched population controls. Breast cancer patients were followed up to determine the intervals of overall survival and disease-free survival. RESULTS: The frequencies of the G allele in the A-82G and A1082G polymorphism among controls were 0.029 and 0.107, respectively. There were no associations between MMP12 polymorphisms and breast cancer risk. Patients with the AG or GG genotype of the A1082G polymorphism showed poorer overall survival (though the difference was not statistically significant) than patients with the AA genotype (hazard ratio 1.36, 95% CI 0.92 to 2.00). CONCLUSION: This result suggests that MMP12 A1082G polymorphism may be related to prognosis in breast cancer patients. Additional studies with larger sample sizes are warranted
