    A multi-physics approach to simulate the RF heating 3D power map induced by the proton beam in a beam intercepting device

    The project High Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) calls for a streaking beam intensity and brightness in the LHC machine. In such a scenario, beam-environment electromagnetic interactions are a crucial topic: they could lead to uneven power deposition in machine equipment. The resulting irregular temperature distribution would generate local thermal gradients, this would create mechanical stresses which could lead to cracks and premature failure of accelerator devices. This work presents a method to study this phenomenon by means of coupled electro-thermomechanical simulations. Further, an example of application on a real HL-LHC device is also discussed

    Value creation through trust in technological-mediated social participation

    In this article, we advocate for the use of a social-technical model of trust to support interaction designers in further reflecting on trust-enabling interaction design values that foster participation. Our rationale is built upon the believe that technological-mediated social participation needs trust, and it is with trust-enabling interactions that we foster the will for collaborate and share—the two key elements of participation. This article starts by briefly presenting a social-technical model of trust and then moves on with establishing authors rational that interconnects trust with technological-mediated social participation. It continues by linking the trust value to the context of design critique and critical design, and ends by illustrating how to incorporate the trust value into design. This is achieved by proposing an analytical tool that can serve to inform interaction designers to better understand the potential design options and reasons for choosing them

    Sectorial holdings and stock prices: the household-bank nexus

    Este trabajo analiza la evolución y las implicaciones en el precio de las acciones de las tenencias de acciones por parte de distintos sectores. Para ello se utiliza información detallada sobre el universo de acciones cotizadas de la zona del euro. Se encuentra lo siguiente: i) los hogares cuentan con un mayor peso en el accionariado de los bancos que en el de las empresas no financieras; ii) las tenencias de acciones de los hogares aumentan (disminuyen) cuando cae (sube) el precio de las acciones, especialmente cuando se trata de las acciones de bancos nacionales, y iii) un aumento de las tenencias de acciones de los hogares domésticos es seguido por incrementos persistentes del precio de las acciones de las empresas, mientras que esto no ocurre para los bancos. Además, tras una emisión de acciones, un aumento de la participación de los hogares en el accionariado de los bancos es seguido por una caída del precio de estas acciones, mientras que esto no ocurre en las empresas. Nuestros resultados sugieren que los hogares actúan como proveedores de liquidez en los mercados de acciones, si bien al mismo tiempo están sujetos a asimetrías de información. Este último mecanismo puede ser más relevante cuando los hogares compran las acciones de los bancos, dadas las estrechas relaciones entre las entidades y los hogares.We analyze the evolution and price implications of aggregate sectorial holdings of stocks, using detailed information on the universe of publicly traded stocks in the euro area. We document that: i) households’ (HH) direct holdings represent a higher fraction of total ownership in domestic bank stocks than in non-financial corporation (NFC) stocks; ii) HH holdings of stocks increase (decrease) following a decline (increase) in the stock price, especially for domestic bank stocks; and iii) an increase in domestic HH holdings is followed by future (persistent) increases in the price of NFC stocks, but not for bank stocks. Moreover, during equity issuances, an increase in the share of domestic HH holdings is followed by a future (persistent) decrease in the stock price of bank stocks, but not for NFC stocks. Our results are consistent with HH being liquidity providers in the stock market, and at the same time subject to negative information asymmetries. We argue that this latter effect is more prevalent in domestic bank stocks than in NFC given the close relationships between HH and banks

    Electronic Health (E-health), is defined as the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in health systems. A well-working health system is an essential necessity for people. E-health can change the World in all developed and developing countries. In this paper, we focused on healthcare problems, challenges, and opportunities in Afghanistan. Currently, Afghanistan has no E-health system as the whole health system is the paper based. We conducted this study in several hospitals to identify the most typical challenges for developing E-health system in Afghan context. While most challenges are quite similar to those of developing countries, we found some specific of Afghanistan. Also we discussed some opportunities for e-health in Afghanistan

These factors include the content and its organization, the functionality and features, the information and interaction design, as well as the visual design (Garett, 2002; Morville’s, 2004; and Hassenzahl, 2005).This paper builds on the contribution of visual design into user experience as grounds to tackle the assessment of visual aesthetics evaluation methods. The intention of the study is to test objective and subjective evaluation methods with the same objects for comparison. Finding out the correlations between the objective and subjective evaluation results enables the usage of computerized image analysis for the purposes of evaluating aesthetics.     Analysis on the mechanical effects induced by beam impedance heating on the HL-LHC target dump injection segmented (TDIS) absorber

    The High Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) Project at CERN calls for increasing beam brightness and intensity. In such a scenario, critical accelerator devices need to be redesigned and rebuilt. Impedance is among the design drivers, since its thermo-mechanical effects could lead to premature device failures. In this context, the current work reports the results of a multiphysics study to assess the electromagnetic and thermo-mechanical behaviour of the Target Dump Injection Segmented (TDIS). It first discusses the outcomes of the impedance analysis performed to characterise the resistive wall and the high order resonant modes (HOMs) trapped in the TDIS structures. Then, their RF-heating effects and the related temperature distribution are considered. Finally, mechanical stresses induced by thermal gradients are studied in order to give a final validation on the design qualit

Its progress is linked to the use of port facilities, where the offshore wind farms can be stored or pre-installed. The aim of this paper is to analyse the storage space availability for ports in terms of being used for the new offshore wind sector. The case of study will be focused on analysing the port facilities in Spain, country with a great offshore wind resource in some specific areas. Results indicate the ports that can be used for the development of offshore wind in Spain.     Positive and Negative Evidence Accumulation Clustering for Sensor Fusion: An Application to Heartbeat Clustering

    In this work, a new clustering algorithm especially geared towards merging data arising from multiple sensors is presented. The algorithm, called PN-EAC, is based on the ensemble clustering paradigm and it introduces the novel concept of negative evidence. PN-EAC combines both positive evidence, to gather information about the elements that should be grouped together in the final partition, and negative evidence, which has information about the elements that should not be grouped together. The algorithm has been validated in the electrocardiographic domain for heartbeat clustering, extracting positive evidence from the heartbeat morphology and negative evidence from the distances between heartbeats. The best result obtained on the MIT-BIH Arrhythmia database yielded an error of 1.44%. In the St. Petersburg Institute of Cardiological Technics 12-Lead Arrhythmia Database database (INCARTDB), an error of 0.601% was obtained when using two electrocardiogram (ECG) leads. When increasing the number of leads to 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12, the algorithm obtains better results (statistically significant) than with the previous number of leads, reaching an error of 0.338%. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first clustering algorithm that is able to process simultaneously any number of ECG leads.
