Implementing Unitarity in Perturbation Theory
Unitarity cannot be perserved order by order in ordinary perturbation theory
because the constraint UU^\dagger=\1 is nonlinear. However, the corresponding
constraint for , being , is linear so it can be
maintained in every order in a perturbative expansion of . The perturbative
expansion of may be considered as a non-abelian generalization of the
linked-cluster expansion in probability theory and in statistical mechanics,
and possesses similar advantages resulting from separating the short-range
correlations from long-range effects. This point is illustrated in two QCD
examples, in which delicate cancellations encountered in summing Feynman
diagrams of are avoided when they are calculated via the perturbative expansion

Exergy intensity and environmental consequences of the medical face masks curtailing the COVID-19 pandemic: Malign bodyguard?
On January 30, 2020, the World Health Organization identified SARS-CoV-2 as a public health emergency of global concern. Accordingly, the demand for personal protective equipment (PPE), including medical face masks, has sharply risen compared with 2019. The new situation has led to a sharp increase in energy demand and the environmental impacts associated with these product systems. Hence, the pandemic's effects on the environmental consequences of various PPE types, such as medical face masks, should be assessed. In light of that, the current study aimed to identify the environmental hot-spots of medical face mask production and consumption by using life cycle assessment (LCA) and tried to provide solutions to mitigate the adverse impacts. Based on the results obtained, in 2020, medical face masks production using fossil-based plastics causes the loss of 2.03 × 103 disability-adjusted life years (DALYs); 1.63 × 108 PDF*m2*yr damage to ecosystem quality; the climate-damaging release of 2.13 × 109 kg CO2eq; and 5.65 × 1010 MJ damage to resources. Besides, annual medical face mask production results in 5.88 × 104 TJ demand for exergy. On the other hand, if used makes are not appropriately handled, they can lead to 4.99 × 105 Pt/yr additional damage to the environment in 2020 as determined by the EDIP 2003. Replacement of fossil-based plastics with bio-based plastics, at rates ranging from 10 to 100%, could mitigate the product's total yearly environmental damage by 4–43%, respectively. Our study calls attention to the environmental sustainability of PPE used to prevent virus transmission in the current and future pandemics
Higher-order non-symmetric counterterms in pure Yang-Mills theory
We analyze the restoration of the Slavnov-Taylor (ST) identities for pure
massless Yang-Mills theory in the Landau gauge within the BPHZL renormalization
scheme with IR regulator. We obtain the most general form of the action-like
part of the symmetric regularized action, obeying the relevant ST identities
and all other relevant symmetries of the model, to all orders in the loop
expansion. We also give a cohomological characterization of the fulfillment of
BPHZL IR power-counting criterion, guaranteeing the existence of the limit
where the IR regulator goes to zero. The technique analyzed in this paper is
needed in the study of the restoration of the ST identities for those models,
like the MSSM, where massless particles are present and no invariant
regularization scheme is known to preserve the full set of ST identities of the

How gluttonous cell aggregates clear substrates coated with microparticles
We study the spreading of cell aggregates deposited on adhesive substrates decorated with microparticles (MPs). A cell monolayer expands around the aggregate. The cells on the periphery of the monolayer take up the MPs, clearing the substrate as they progress and forming an aureole of cells filled with MPs. We study the dynamics of spreading and determine the width of the aureole and the level of MP internalization in cells as a function of MP size, composition, and density. From the radius and width of the aureole, we quantify the volume fraction of MPs within the cell, which leads to an easy, fast, and inexpensive measurement of the cell - particle internalization.Peer reviewe
SUMOylation inhibits FOXM1 activity and delays mitotic transition
The forkhead box transcription factor FOXM1 is an essential effector of G2/M-phase transition, mitosis and the DNA damage response. As such, it is frequently deregulated during tumorigenesis. Here we report that FOXM1 is dynamically modified by SUMO1 but not by SUMO2/3 at multiple sites. We show that FOXM1 SUMOylation is enhanced in MCF-7 breast cancer cells in response to treatment with epirubicin and mitotic inhibitors. Mutation of five consensus conjugation motifs yielded a SUMOylation-deficient mutant FOXM1. Conversely, fusion of the E2 ligase Ubc9 to FOXM1 generated an auto-SUMOylating mutant (FOXM1-Ubc9). Analysis of wild-type FOXM1 and mutants revealed that SUMOylation inhibits FOXM1 activity, promotes translocation to the cytoplasm and enhances APC/Cdh1-mediated ubiquitination and degradation. Further, expression of the SUMOylation-deficient mutant enhanced cell proliferation compared with wild-type FOXM1, whereas the FOXM1-Ubc9 fusion protein resulted in persistent cyclin B1 expression and slowed the time from mitotic entry to exit. In summary, our findings suggest that SUMOylation attenuates FOXM1 activity and causes mitotic delay in cytotoxic drug response

High-quality all-oxide Schottky junctions fabricated on heavily Nb-doped SrTiO3 substrates
We present a detailed investigation of the electrical properties of epitaxial
La0.7Sr0.3MnO3/SrTi0.98Nb0.02O3 Schottky junctions. A fabrication process that
allows reduction of the junction dimensions to current electronic device size
has been employed. A heavily doped semiconductor has been used as a substrate
in order to suppress its series resistance. We show that, unlike standard
semiconductors, high-quality oxide-based Schottky junctions maintain a highly
rectifying behavior for doping concentration of the semiconductor larger than
10^20 cm^(-3). Moreover, the junctions show hysteretic current-voltage

Quantum Communications with Compressed Decoherence Using Bright Squeezed Light
We propose a scheme for long-distance distribution of quantum entanglement in
which the entanglement between qubits at intermediate stations of the channel
is established by using bright light pulses in squeezed states coupled to the
qubits in cavities with a weak dispersive interaction. The fidelity of the
entanglement between qubits at the neighbor stations (10 km apart from each
other) obtained by postselection through the balanced homodyne detection of 7
dB squeezed pulses can reach F=0.99 without using entanglement purification, at
same time, the probability of successful generation of entanglement is 0.34.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figure
Musculoskeletal Strength, Balance Performance, and Self-Efficacy in Elderly Ving Tsun Chinese Martial Art Practitioners: Implications for Fall Prevention
Objectives. To (1) compare the bone strength, lower limb muscular strength, functional balance performance, and balance self-efficacy between Ving Tsun (VT) martial art practitioners and nonpractitioners and (2) identify the associations between lower limb muscular strength, functional balance performance, and balance self-efficacy among the VT-trained participants. Methods. Thirty-five VT practitioners (mean age ± SD = 62.7 ± 13.3 years) and 49 nonpractitioners (mean age ± SD = 65.9 ± 10.5 years) participated in the study. The bone strength of the distal radius, lower limb muscular strength, functional balance performance, and balance self-efficacy were assessed using an ultrasound bone sonometer, the five times sit-to-stand test (FTSTS), the Berg balance scale (BBS), and the Chinese version of the activities-specific balance confidence scale, respectively. A multivariate analysis of covariance was performed to compare all the outcome variables between the two groups. Results. Elderly VT practitioners had higher radial bone strength on the dominant side (P<0.05), greater lower limb muscular strength (P=0.001), better functional balance performance (P=0.003), and greater balance confidence (P<0.001) than the nonpractitioners. Additionally, only the FTSTS time revealed a significant association with the BBS score (r=-0.575, P=0.013). Conclusions. VT may be a suitable health-maintenance exercise for the elderly. Our findings may inspire the development of VT fall-prevention exercises for the community-dwelling healthy elderly
