Cambrian and Ordovician Fossil-Lagerstätten in the Barrandian area

    Get PDF
Exceptionally preserved fossils showing typical characters of the so called Konservat-Lagerstätten are shortly mentioned from Cambrian and Ordovician sediments of the Barrandian area. Fossils with well preserved soft parts were ascertained in several different levels of two Cambrian units of the Příbram-Jince Basin as well as in diverse levels of the Skryje-Týřovice Basin. Other exceptionally preserved fossils are shortly discussed from numerous Lower to Upper Ordovician levels of the Prague Basin

The earliest ostracods from the Ordovician of the Prague Basin, Czech Republic

The earliest ostracods from the Bohemian Massif (Central European Variscides) have been recorded from the Middle Ordovician of the Prague Basin (Barrandian area), in the upper Klabava Formation, and became an abundant component of fossil assemblages in the overlying Šárka Formation. Both early ostracod associations consist of eight species in total, representing mainly eridostracans, palaeocopids, and binodicopids. The revision, description, or redescription of all species and their distribution in the basin is provided. Their diversification patterns and palaeogeographical relationships to ostracod assemblages from other regions are discussed

The submitted doctoral thesis presents an introductory comment and a set of four publications focused on the revision of the Ordovician ostracods of the Prague Basin. The research of them was insufficient in past in contrast to the diversity and abundance of ostracod material recorded in this area. Major characteristics of the study group with a focus on morphology, ecology and history of research are discussed in the introductory chapters. In the following parts, the attention is paid to the ostracods of the Lower, Middle and Upper Ordovician of the Prague Basin and their comparison with assemblages of the other paleoregions. The published papers are focused on the comprehensive revisions of the ostracods of the Klabava, Šárka and Králův Dvůr formations. The studies resulted in systematic monographs supplemented with a study on the ontogeny of the widespread species Conchoprimitia osekensis (Přibyl, 1979). The taxonomy, palaeogeography and overall diversity of studied Ordovician species are also included and discussed

Ontogeny of the ostracod Conchoprimitia osekensis

The ontogeny of the species Conchoprimitia osekensis (Pribyl, 1979) from the Šárka Formation (lower and middle Darriwilian) is evaluated. Eight ontogenetic stages (A-8 to A-1) and one adult specimen are described and illustrated. This study displays that another common species of the same stratigraphical unit, Conchoprimitia? dejvicensis Přibyl, 1979, represents early instars of C. osekensis. It clearly demonstrates the importance of such ontogenetic studies for understanding real taxonomy and diversity of fossil ostracods
