Noxious gas emissions above former coal and iron mines in Lorraine due to the presence of iron sulphides

International audienceStudies were carried out in the iron and coal basins of Lorraine (North-East of France) which indicated that oxygen-depleted air and carbon dioxide was being emitted into built-up areas related to former mine workings. Investigations were carried out to determine the origin of this gas production indicated that carbon dioxide production could be caused by the oxidation of iron sulphide minerals (pyrite and marcasite) and reaction of sulphuric acid with carbonates minerals to produce carbon dioxide gas. These reactions have produced highly mineralised mine water with circum-neutral pH values and a low content of dissolved metals and metalloids. Through a bibliographic study, similar neutral mine drainage has been observed and assumptions were made on the reactions which could take place. Die Kirche in der pietistischen Geschichtsschreibung

Zusammenfassung: In diesem Beitrag wird das Bild der Kirche in der pie­tistischen Geschichtsschreibung dargelegt. 1675 verö­ffentlicht Philipp Jacob Spener seine Pia Desideria, die als Manifest des lutherischen Pietismus gelten. Ausge­hend von der festgestellten Verdorbenheit der Kirche seiner Zeit, schlägt er die Reform der Institution vor: die Gläubigen sollen sich auf die praxis pietatis konzen­trieren nach dem Vorbild der Christen der ursprün­glichen Kirche; was die Kirche angeht, so soll sie den unfruchtbaren Geist der Kontroverse und der religiö­sen Streitigkeiten bannen und wird somit das Ideal der evangelischen Frömmigkeit wieder herstellen. Gott­fried Arnolds Unpartheyische Kirchen- und Ketzerhis­torie (1699-1700) ist die Umsetzung dieses Reformpro­gramms in der Geschichtsschreibung. Indem auf die Gegenwart der unsichtbaren wahren Kirche fokussiert wird, soll die Kirche zur Reinheit der ursprünglichen Christen zurückkehren. Die kontrastreiche Rezeption dieses Werkes, wo Häretiker und Häresien gerecht be­handelt werden sollen, bezeugt dessen Verankerung im Feld der Kontroverse. So ist diese vermeintlich „unpartheyische“ Kirchengeschichte auch Geschi­chsschreibung im Dienste einer Partei. Abstract: This contribution analyses how Church is de­picted through the Pietistic historiography. Pu­blished in 1675 Pastor Philipp Jacob Spener’s Pia Desideria is a proclamation to Lutheran pietism. Observing the corruption of the current Church, he proposes a reform of this institution: parishio­ners should focus on practicing faith just like the original Christians did; the Church, on the other hand, if banishing the sterile controversy of reli­gious disagreement could bring back the utopia of Holy piety. The history of the Church and the heresies of Gottfried Arnold (Unpartheyische Kir­chen- und Ketzerhistorie) published in 1699-1700 is a transposition of this religious program. By focusing on the presence of the Church hidden amongst the populations, the Church will go back to the purity of the original Church: this work that pretends to be giving a fair consideration to both heresies and heretics- from Thomasius’ praises to the orthodox theologians’ insults- was quite controversial and received an uneven welcome. Therefore, this supposedly impartial story of the Church was actually quite biased. Stichwörter:  P. J. CPB AND AORTIC SURGERY The state of the Art (From a Theoritical to a Practical Approach)

Background Despite recent improvements in prevention, medical treatment [1]and endovascular aortic repair , invasive surgery associated with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) remains the best option of treatment for some patients. The aim of this study is to make a review of the specific CPB protocols associated with these invasive surgical approaches, based on our clinical experience and according to the recent literature. Up to now, these protocols are not supported by evidence based in medicine (EBM) [2] or in perfusion (EBP). Discrepancies can be observed regarding target temperature , selective cerebral protection , CPB circuit concept and arterial cannulation sites . Variables guidelines are suggested concerning regional flow , transfusion requirements [3], coagulation monitoring blood gas management[4] as for cerebral and CPB monitoring tools. Conclusions In the absence of EBM and EBP in the aortic surgery field, the short and long terms clinical outcomes of the patients elected to invasive surgery for aortic diseases must guide and substantiate our choices of techniques and of CPB protocols
