    Partition functions and elliptic genera from supergravity

    We develop the spacetime aspects of the computation of partition functions for string/M-theory on AdS(3) xM. Subleading corrections to the semi-classical result are included systematically, laying the groundwork for comparison with CFT partition functions via the AdS(3)/CFT(2) correspondence. This leads to a better understanding of the "Farey tail" expansion of Dijkgraaf et. al. from the point of view of bulk physics. Besides clarifying various issues, we also extend the analysis to the N=2 setting with higher derivative effects included.Comment: 34 page

    Neuromuscular Jumping Performance and Upper-Body Horizontal Power of Volleyball Players

J Strength Cond Res XX(X): 000-000, 2019-The aim of the current study was to characterize the neuromuscular jumping performance and upper-body horizontal power of elite and subelite volleyball players. In addition, those neuromuscular performances were compared between field positions. One hundred twenty-two male volleyball players participated in the study: 83 elite players (mean ± SD: 24.11 ± 5.57 years) and 39 subelite players (25.38 ± 6.19 years). They were divided according to their playing position: setters (n = 22), opposite hitters (n = 16), middle hitters (n = 30), right-side hitters (n = 38), and liberos (n = 16). Each participant randomly performed 3 repetitions of medicine ball throwing (MBT), countermovement jump (CMJ), CMJ with free arms (CMJFA), and spike jump (SPJ). The results showed no significant differences between positions in the analyzed variables. However, there were differences between elite and subelite in the CMJ (p = 0.000, ηp = 0.12), the CMJFA (p = 0.000, ηp = 0.15), the SPJ (p = 0.000, ηp = 0.21), and MBT (p = 0.001, ηp = 0.09), showing a tendency for increased jumping performance and upper-body horizontal power for elite players. The elite opposite hitters and right-side hitters recorded greater CMJ performances (d = 1.20 and d = 1.62, respectively). The right-side hitters were the only group that showed greater horizontal upper-body muscular power (p = 0.000, d = 1.50). It is suggested that jumping performance is a determining factor for higher-level players, which was more relevant for the opposite hitters and right-side hitters. Nevertheless, the movement pattern of MBT seems to be relevant for the right-side hitters. Coaches should seek to develop jumping ability for the improvement of volleyball performances, without disregarding upper-body performances, depending on the position-specific demands.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio

    Synthesis and Characterization of Tin Niobates

    The synthesis and the structural characterization of tin niobates Sn11x Nb2 O61x , x50.0, 0.5, and 1.0, are reported. The materials have been characterized by bulk chemical analysis, single-crystal and powder X-ray di4raction, and 119Sn Mossbauer and 93Nb and 119Sn solid-state NMR spectroscopies. SnNb2 O6 is a synthetic analog of the rare mineral foordite. Red Sn2 Nb2 O7 crystallizes in a pyrochlore structure with a510.5386 A. 119Sn Mossbauer reveals the presence of both Sn(II) and Sn(IV) in pyrochlore samples. 119Sn MAS NMR spectroscopy supports the presence in synthetic foordite of Sn(II) in eight-fold coordination. The six-coordinated Sn(IV) and eight-coordinated Sn(II) 119Sn MASNMRresonances are not resolved in the Sn2 Nb2 O7 pyrochlore spectrum. 93Nb NMR indicates a fairly distorted local environment for niobium in synthetic foordite, much more so than in the Sn2 Nb2 O7 pyrochlore.N/

    Non-stoichiometric mixed lead and tin niobates

    Novel non-stoichiometric mixed lead and tin niobates with the pyrochlore structure have been synthesized via a solid-state route. The materials have been characterized by bulk chemical analysis, single-crystal and powder X-ray diffraction, 207Pb, 119Sn and 93Nb (single and triple quantum) solid-state NMR spectroscopy. The structures of the new non-stoichiometric mixed lead–tin niobate pyrochlore compounds have been Rietveld refined in the cubic system, space group Fd-3m. The steroactivity of the Sn(II) free electron pair leads to the general formula (Sn1.6−xPbx)(Nb2−ySny)O6.6−0.5y, where x (0–1.6) is the Pb(II) and y (0–0.34) is the Sn(IV) contents. 207Pb, 119Sn and (in particular) 93Nb NMR support the isomorphous substitution of tin for lead in the compounds studied. 93Nb triple-quantum magic-angle spinning NMR spectroscopy show that the materials contain, at least, two distinct niobium sites, in a 2:1 population ratio, which may be associated with different sampleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

The development of high-throughput molecular technologies allowed a deeper characterization of human microbiota and a better understanding of its relationship with health and disease. Changes in human habits including wide use of antimicrobials can result in dysregulation of host–microbiome homeostasis, with multiple consequences.     Null Deformed Domain Wall

    We study null 1/4 BPS deformations of flat domain wall solutions (NDDW) in N=2, d=5 gauged supergravity with hypermultiplets and vector multiplets coupled. These are uncharged time-dependent configurations and contain as special case, 1/2 supersymmetric flat domain walls (DW), as well as 1/2 BPS null solutions of the ungauged supergravity. Combining our analysis with the classification method initiated by Gauntlett et al., we prove that all the possible deformations of the DW have origin in the hypermultiplet sector or/and are null. Here, we classify all the null deformations: we show that they naturally organize themselves into "gauging" (v-deformation) and "non gauging" (u-deformation). They have different properties: only in presence of v-deformation is the solution supported by a time-dependent scalar potential. Furthermore we show that the number of possible deformations equals the number of matter multiplets coupled. We discuss the general procedure for constructing explicit solutions, stressing the crucial role taken by the integrability conditions of the scalars as spacetime functions. Two analytical solutions are presented.     Three-Dimensional Gravity with Conformal Scalar and Asymptotic Virasoro Algebra

    Strominger has derived the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of the BTZ black hole using asymptotic Virasoro algebra. We apply Strominger's method to a black hole solution found by Martinez and Zanelli (MZ). This is a solution of three-dimensional gravity with a conformal scalar field. The solution is not AdS3AdS_3, but it is asymptotically AdS3AdS_3; therefore, it has the asymptotic Virasoro algebra. We compute the central charge for the theory and compares Cardy's formula with the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy. It turns out that the functional form does agree, but the overall numerical coefficient does not. This is because this approach gives the "maximum possible entropy" for the numerical coefficient.Comment: 26 pages, LaTeX; v2: minor correction

    A model of the Universe including Dark Energy accounted for by both a Quintessence Field and a (negative) Cosmological Constant

    In this work we present a model of the universe in which dark energy is modelled explicitely with both a dynamical quintessence field and a cosmological constant. Our results confirm the possibility of a future collapsing universe (for a given region of the parameter space), which is necessary for a consistent formulation of string theory and quantum field theory. We have also reproduced the measurements of modulus distance from supernovae with good accuracy.Comment: 11 pages, 4 figures, only the results for the single exponential potential are preserved.
