Travelling waves in the cool flame regime

Hydrocarbon oxidation develops through a complex network of elementary steps. Depending on the initial thermodynamic conditions, different behaviours are observed ranging from slow combustion to hot ignition [1]. Chain reactions involving radicals, govern all the combustion processes. Most of the time, the operating kinetic mechanism can be approximated by a reduced kinetic scheme which is depending on the initial conditions. In an intermediate range of temperature, cool flames appear as a transition between slow combustion and hot ignition. The existence of cool flames is often associated with knocking is engines

Homogenization results for chemical reactive flows through porous media

    Get PDF
This paper deals with the homogenization of a nonlinear problem mod-elllng chemica! reactive flows through periodically perforated domains. The chemical reactions take place on the walls of the porous médium. The effective behavior of these reactive flows is described by a new elliptic boundary-value problem contalning an extra zero-order term which captures the effect of the chemical reactions

Global controllability tests for geometric hybrid control systems

    Get PDF
Hybrid systems are characterized by having an interaction between continuous dynamics and discrete events. The contribution of this paper is to provide hybrid systems with a novel geometric formulation so that controls can be added. Using this framework we describe some new global controllability tests for hybrid control systems exploiting the geometry and the topology of the set of jump points, where the instantaneous change of dynamics take place. Controllability is understood as the existence of a feasible trajectory for the system joining any two given points. As a result we describe examples where none of the continuous control systems are controllable, but the associated hybrid system is controllable because of the characteristics of the jump set.Comment: 27 pages, 5 figure

Understanding how and when personal values foster entrepreneurial behavior: a humane perspective

    Get PDF
This study aims to examine the role of entrepreneurial inten- tions and motivations in the interplay between humane- oriented personal values and entrepreneurial behavior. Using data from 593 individuals in 2010 and 2019, we uncover how and when humane-oriented personal values (conservation and self-transcendence) lead to self-employment. Results suggest that entrepreneurial intentions function as a mechanism that triggers self-employment decisions for individuals with humane- oriented personal values and that this effect is stronger when they engage in opportunity-based entrepreneurship. Finally, we discuss the implications of these findings for the literature on personal values and the intention-action link.Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad ECO2016-75655-
