This study aims to determine the effect of Combination of Nitrogen Fertilizer and Granular Organic Fertilizer on the Growth and Yield of Caisim (Brassica chinensis Bailey) Cultivator Pak Choy. The experiment was carried out on the experimental site of the Cigugur Fisheries and Forestry Extension Center (BP3K) in Cisantana Village, Cigugur Subdistrict, Kuningan Regency, West Java Province. Land in the experiment area includes latosol soil type, rainfall including medium type (D), and height of 700 meters above sea level (asl). The time of the research was conducted from September to October 2012.The experimental method used was using the experimental method with factorial randomized block design (RBD), consisting of 16 combinations, namely treatment A (nitrogen 45 kg / ha, 0 kg POG / ha), B (nitrogen 90 kg / ha, 0 kg POG / ha), C (nitrogen 135 kg / ha, 0 kg POG / ha), D (nitrogen 180 kg / ha, 0 kg POG / ha), E (nitrogen 45 kg / ha, 425 kg POG / ha), F (90 kg nitrogen / ha, 425 kg POG / ha), G (135 kg nitrogen / ha, 425 kg POG / ha), H (180 kg nitrogen / ha, 425 kg POG / ha), I (45 kg nitrogen / ha, 850 kg POG / ha), J (nitrogen 90 kg / ha, 850 kg POG / ha), K (nitrogen 135 kg / ha, 850 kg POG / ha), L (nitrogen 180 kg / ha, 850 kg POG / ha), M (45 kg nitrogen / ha, 1275 kg POG / ha), N (90 kg nitrogen / ha, 1275 kg POG / ha), O (nitrogen 135 kg / ha, 1275 kg POG / ha), P (180 kg nitrogen / ha, 1275 kg POG / ha). Each treatment was repeated 2 times, so 32 trial plots were obtained. The variables observed were plant height, number of leaves, gross weight per plant, gross weight per plot, net weight per plant, and net weight per plot. The results showed a significant effect of the dose of nitrogen fertilizer and granular organic fertilizer on plant age of 30 HST, number of leaves aged 10 and 30 HST, gross weight per plot, and net weight per plot. The dose of nitrogen fertilizer 90 kg / ha and granular organic fertilizer 850 kg / ha shows the best influence on net weight per plot which produces production of 20.70 kg / plot or equivalent to 82 tons / ha

The Reproducibility of Lists of Differentially Expressed Genes in Microarray Studies

Reproducibility is a fundamental requirement in scientific experiments and clinical contexts. Recent publications raise concerns about the reliability of microarray technology because of the apparent lack of agreement between lists of differentially expressed genes (DEGs). In this study we demonstrate that (1) such discordance may stem from ranking and selecting DEGs solely by statistical significance (P) derived from widely used simple t-tests; (2) when fold change (FC) is used as the ranking criterion, the lists become much more reproducible, especially when fewer genes are selected; and (3) the instability of short DEG lists based on P cutoffs is an expected mathematical consequence of the high variability of the t-values. We recommend the use of FC ranking plus a non-stringent P cutoff as a baseline practice in order to generate more reproducible DEG lists. The FC criterion enhances reproducibility while the P criterion balances sensitivity and specificity

Problematic Internet Use and Problematic Online Gaming Are Not the Same: Findings from a Large Nationally Representative Adolescent Sample

There is an ongoing debate in the literature whether problematic internet use (PIU) and problematic online gaming (POG) are two distinct conceptual and nosological entities or whether they are the same. The present study contributes to this question by examining the interrelationship and the overlap between PIU and POG in terms of gender, school achievement, time spent using the internet and/or online gaming, psychological wellbeing, and preferred online activities. Questionnaires assessing these variables were administered to a nationally representative sample of adolescent gamers (N=2,073; mean age 16.4 years, SD=0.87, 68.4% male). Data showed that internet use was a common activity among adolescents while online gaming was engaged in by a considerably smaller group. Similarly, more adolescents met the criteria for PIU than for POG and a small group of adolescents showed symptoms of both problem behaviors. The most notable difference between the two problem behaviors was in terms of gender. POG was much more strongly associated with being male. Self-esteem had low effect sizes on both behaviors, while depressive symptoms were associated with both PIU and POG, affecting PIU slightly more. In terms of preferred online activities, PIU was positively associated with online gaming, online chatting, and social networking while POG was only associated with online gaming. Based on our findings POG appears to be a conceptually different behavior than PIU and therefore data support the notion that Internet Addiction Disorder and Internet Gaming Disorder are separate nosological entities

Interfacial Reactions of Ozone with Surfactant Protein B in a Model Lung Surfactant System

Oxidative stresses from irritants such as hydrogen peroxide and ozone (O_3) can cause dysfunction of the pulmonary surfactant (PS) layer in the human lung, resulting in chronic diseases of the respiratory tract. For identification of structural changes of pulmonary surfactant protein B (SP-B) due to the heterogeneous reaction with O_3, field-induced droplet ionization (FIDI) mass spectrometry has been utilized. FIDI is a soft ionization method in which ions are extracted from the surface of microliter-volume droplets. We report structurally specific oxidative changes of SP-B_(1−25) (a shortened version of human SP-B) at the air−liquid interface. We also present studies of the interfacial oxidation of SP-B_(1−25) in a nonionizable 1-palmitoyl-2-oleoyl-sn-glycerol (POG) surfactant layer as a model PS system, where competitive oxidation of the two components is observed. Our results indicate that the heterogeneous reaction of SP-B_(1−25) at the interface is quite different from that in the solution phase. In comparison with the nearly complete homogeneous oxidation of SP-B_(1−25), only a subset of the amino acids known to react with ozone are oxidized by direct ozonolysis in the hydrophobic interfacial environment, both with and without the lipid surfactant layer. Combining these experimental observations with the results of molecular dynamics simulations provides an improved understanding of the interfacial structure and chemistry of a model lung surfactant system subjected to oxidative stress

Power Flow Modelling of Dynamic Systems - Introduction to Modern Teaching Tools

    Get PDF
As tools for dynamic system modelling both conventional methods such as transfer function or state space representation and modern power flow based methods are available. The latter methods do not depend on energy domain, are able to preserve physical system structures, visualize power conversion or coupling or split, identify power losses or storage, run on conventional software and emphasize the relevance of energy as basic principle of known physical domains. Nevertheless common control structures as well as analysis and design tools may still be applied. Furthermore the generalization of power flow methods as pseudo-power flow provides with a universal tool for any dynamic modelling. The phenomenon of power flow constitutes an up to date education methodology. Thus the paper summarizes fundamentals of selected power flow oriented modelling methods, presents a Bond Graph block library for teaching power oriented modelling as compact menu-driven freeware, introduces selected examples and discusses special features.Comment: 12 pages, 9 figures, 4 table

Graphs Identified by Logics with Counting

We classify graphs and, more generally, finite relational structures that are identified by C2, that is, two-variable first-order logic with counting. Using this classification, we show that it can be decided in almost linear time whether a structure is identified by C2. Our classification implies that for every graph identified by this logic, all vertex-colored versions of it are also identified. A similar statement is true for finite relational structures. We provide constructions that solve the inversion problem for finite structures in linear time. This problem has previously been shown to be polynomial time solvable by Martin Otto. For graphs, we conclude that every C2-equivalence class contains a graph whose orbits are exactly the classes of the C2-partition of its vertex set and which has a single automorphism witnessing this fact. For general k, we show that such statements are not true by providing examples of graphs of size linear in k which are identified by C3 but for which the orbit partition is strictly finer than the Ck-partition. We also provide identified graphs which have vertex-colored versions that are not identified by Ck.Comment: 33 pages, 8 Figure

A Search for Water Masers in the Saturnian System

We searched for H2O 6(1,6)-5(2,3) maser emission at 22.235 GHz from several Saturnian satellites with the Nobeyama 45m radio telescope in May 2009. Observations were made for Titan, Hyperion, Enceladus and Atlas, for which Pogrebenko et al. (2009) had reported detections of water masers at 22.235 GHz, and in addition for Iapetus and other inner satellites. We detected no emission of the water maser line for all the satellites observed, although sensitivities of our observations were comparable or even better than those of Pogrebenko et al.. We infer that the water maser emission from the Saturnian system is extremely weak, or sporadic in nature. Monitoring over a long period and obtaining statistical results must be made for the further understanding of the water maser emission in the Saturnian system.Comment: 8 pages, 2 figures, accepted for publication in PASJ (Letter
