Envisioning and evolving: Future evolution of the concept and the practice of service design

ervice Design is evolving from an emerging field, breaking new ground in the design and service research areas, to a more mature stage, developing a set of fundamental concepts, methods and principles that can provide the foundation for its further significance and impact in both research and practice. This paper reflects on the roots and recent evolution of service design in terms of fundamental concepts, methods and outcomes, taking into account the papers in the Envisioning and Evolving track. It considers how the growing interrelation with close fields of service research is introducing useful “contaminations” and reports how the Service perspective is revealing its potential to bring life to technical and entrenched systems. It goes on to argue that design should aim to bring services to life to prove its real, distinguishing value and contribution

Extracting Proofs from Tabled Proof Search

We consider the problem of model checking specifications involving co-inductive definitions such as are available for bisimulation. A proof search approach to model checking with such specifications often involves state exploration. We consider four different tabling strategies that can minimize such exploration significantly. In general, tabling involves storing previously proved subgoals and reusing (instead of reproving) them in proof search. In the case of co-inductive proof search, tables allow a limited form of loop checking, which is often necessary for, say, checking bisimulation of non-terminating processes. We enhance the notion of tabled proof search by allowing a limited deduction from tabled entries when performing table lookup. The main problem with this enhanced tabling method is that it is generally unsound when co-inductive definitions are involved and when tabled entries contain unproved entries. We design a proof system with tables and show that by managing tabled entries carefully, one would still be able to obtain a sound proof system. That is, we show how one can extract a post-fixed point from a tabled proof for a co-inductive goal. Concurrent constraint programming with process mobility

We propose an extension of concurrent constraint programming with primitives for process migration within a hierarchical network, and we study its semantics. To this purpose, we first investigate a "pure " paradigm for process migration, namely a paradigm where the only actions are those dealing with transmissions of processes. Our goal is to give a structural definition of the semantics of migration; namely, we want to describe the behaviour of the system, during the transmission of a process, in terms of the behaviour of the components. We achieve this goal by using a labeled transition system where the effects of sending a process, and requesting a process, are modeled by symmetric rules (similar to handshaking-rules for synchronous communication) between the two partner nodes in the network. Next, we extend our paradigm with the primitives of concurrent constraint programming, and we show how to enrich the semantics to cope with the notions of environment and constraint store. Finally, we show how the operational semantics can be used to define an interpreter for the basic calculus.

On Bisimilarity and Substitution in Presence of Replication

International audienceWe prove a new congruence result for the pi-calculus: bisimilarity is a congruence in the sub-calculus that does not include restriction nor sum, and features top-level replications. Our proof relies on algebraic properties of replication, and on a new syntactic characterisation of bisimilarity. We obtain this characterisation using a rewriting system rather than a purely equational axiomatisation. We then deduce substitution closure, and hence, congruence. Whether bisimilarity is a congruence when replications are unrestricted remains open

El diagnóstico del osteosarcoma plantea una serie de problemas específicos. De hecho, se debe tener en cuenta la existencia de diversas variantes, con pronósticos diferentes y que requieren enfoques terapéuticos igualmente distintos. En este mismo sentido, la introducción de nuevos protocolos terapéuticos, incluyendo la quimioterapia preoperatoria, requiere una evaluación histopatológica cuidadosa del especimen a fin de cuantificar la necrosis inducida por la quimioterapia y los márgenes quirúrgicos. El presente estudio analiza las diferentes variantes histopatológicas y los problemas que se relacionan con la evaluación de los efectos de la quimioterapia preoperatoria sobre el especimen resecado.Diagnosis of osteosarcoma presents specific problems. In fact, several and different varieties, presenting different prognosis and requiring different treatments, have to be recognized. Moreover, the adoption of new therapeutic protocols including preoperative chemotherapy, requires a careful histopathological evaluation of the specimen to quantify the chemotherapy-induced necrosis and the surgical margins. This paper analyzes the different histopathological varieties and problems related to the evaluation of the effects on the resected specimen of preoperative chemotherapy
