    Generating human-computer micro-task workflows from domain ontologies

    With the growing popularity of micro-task crowdsourcing platforms, a renewed interest in the resolution of complex tasks that require the coopera-tion of human and machine participants has emerged. This interest has led to workflow approaches that present new challenges at different dimensions of the human-machine computation process, namely in micro-task specification and human-computer interaction due to the unstructured nature of micro-tasks in terms of domain representation. In this sense, a semi-automatic generation envi-ronment for human-computer micro-task workflows from domain ontologies is proposed. Such workflows occur in legal, political and conflict resolution do-mains as well, presenting new challenges, namely in micro-task specification and human-machine interaction, which result mostly from the flow of unstruc-tured data. Domain ontologies provide the structure and semantics required to describe the data flowing throughout the workflow in a way understandable to both humans and machines. This paper presents a method for the construction of micro-task workflows from legal domain ontologies.     Defining human-machine micro-task workflows for constitution making

    This paper presents a novel task-oriented approach to crowdsource the drafting of a constitution. By considering micro-tasking as a particular form of crowdsourcing, it defines a workflow-based approach based on Onto2Flow, an ontology that models the basic concepts and roles to represent workflow-definitions. The approach is then applied to a prototype platform for constitution-making where human workers are requested to contribute to a set of tasks.     A survey of task-oriented crowdsourcing

    Since the advent of artificial intelligence, researchers have been trying to create machines that emulate human behaviour. Back in the 1960s however, Licklider (IRE Trans Hum Factors Electron 4-11, 1960) believed that machines and computers were just part of a scale in which computers were on one side and humans on the other (human computation). After almost a decade of active research into human computation and crowdsourcing, this paper presents a survey of crowdsourcing human computation systems, with the focus being on solving micro-tasks and complex tasks. An analysis of the current state of the art is performed from a technical standpoint, which includes a systematized description of the terminologies used by crowdsourcing platforms and the relationships between each term. Furthermore, the similarities between task-oriented crowdsourcing platforms are described and presented in a process diagram according to a proposed classification.     Staging choreographies for team training in multiple virtual worlds based on ontologies and alignments

    In this paper we present an approach that makes possible the staging of choreographies for education and training purposes in potentially any virtual world platform. A choreography is seen here as the description of a set of actions that must or may be executed by a group of participants, including the goals to be achieved and any restrictions that may exist. We present a system architecture and the formalization of a set of processes that are able to transform a choreography from a platform-independent representation into a specific virtual world platform’s representation. We adopt an ontology-based approach with distinct levels of abstraction for capturing and representing multi-actors and multi-domain choreographies to be staged in virtual world platforms with distinct characteristics. Ontologies are characterized according to two complementary dimensions – choreography’s domain (independent and dependent) and virtual world platform (independent and dependent) – giving rise to four ontologies. Ontology mappings between these ontologies enable the automatic generation of a choreography for virtually any target virtual world platform, thus reducing the time and effort of the choreography development

In this paper, we present HeLiS: an ontology aiming to provide in tandem a representation of both the food and physical activity domains and the definition of concepts enabling the monitoring of users’ actions and of their unhealthy behaviors. We describe the construction process, the plan for its maintenance, and how this ontology has been used into a real-world system with a focus on “Key to Health”: a project for promoting healthy lifestyles on workplaces
