New fullerene derivatives for the photovoltaic application
Cyclopropano[70]fullerenes have been synthesized in the aim of being used as acceptors in blends based on regioregular poly (3,5-Hexylthiophene) RR-P3HT for photovoltaic (PV) plastic cells. These molecules used with RR-P3HT in bulk heterojunction (BHJ) configuration provided interesting characteristics: 1.5% solar conversion efficiency, 9.29 mA/cm² current density, 0.51 V open circuit voltage, and 0.34 fill factor. The IPCE spectrum for P3HT: cyclopropano[70]fullerene cells shows a peak around 430 nm with 71% external quantum efficiency. This result justifies the increased current density

Computational capabilities of multilayer committee machines
We obtained an analytical expression for the computational complexity of many layered committee machines with a finite number of hidden layers (L < 8) using the generalization complexity measure introduced by Franco et al (2006) IEEE Trans. Neural Netw. 17 578. Although our result is valid in the large-size limit and for an overlap synaptic matrix that is ultrametric, it provides a useful tool for inferring the appropriate architecture a network must have to reproduce an arbitrary realizable Boolean function

Effect of powder metallurgy synthesis parameters for pure aluminium on resultant mechanical properties
In this work, pure aluminium powders of different average particle size were compacted, sintered into discs and tested for mechanical strength at different strain rates. The effects of average particle size (15, 19, and 35 μm), sintering rate (5 and 20 °C/min) and sample indentation test speed (0.5, 0.7, and 1.0 mm/min) were examined. A compaction pressure of 332 MPa with a holding time of six minutes was used to produce the green compacted discs. The consolidated green specimens were sintered with a holding time of 4 h, a temperature of 600 °C in an argon atmosphere. The resulting sintered samples contained higher than 85% density. The mechanical properties and microstructure were characterized using indentation strength measurement tests and SEM analysis respectively. After sintering, the aluminium grain structure was observed to be of uniform size within the fractured samples. The indentation test measurements showed that for the same sintering rate, the 35 μm powder particle size provided the highest radial and tangential strength while the 15 μm powder provided the lowest strengths. Another important finding from this work was the increase in sintered sample strength which was achieved using the lower sinter heating rate, 5 °C/min. This resulted in a tangential stress value of 365 MPa which was significantly higher than achieved, 244 MPa, using the faster sintering heating rate, 20 °C/min
Evidence of a landlocked reproducing population of the marine pejerrey Odontesthes argentinensis (Actinopterygii; Atherinopsidae)
In South America, the order Atheriniformes includes the monophyletic genus<em>Odontesthes</em> with 20 species that inhabit freshwater, estuarine and coastal environments. Pejerrey Odontesthes argentinensis is widely distributed in coastal and estuarineareas of the Atlantic Ocean and is known to foray into estuaries of river systems, particularly in conditions of elevated salinity. However, to our knowledge, a landlockedself-sustaining population has never been recorded. In this study, we examined the pejerrey population of Salada de Pedro Luro Lake (south-east of BuenosAires Province, Argentina) to clarify its taxonomic identity. An integrative taxonomic analysis based on traditional meristic, landmark-based morphometrics and genetictechniques suggests that the Salada de Pedro Luro pejerrey population represents a novel case of physiological and morphological adaptation of a marine pejerrey speciesto a landlocked environment and emphasises the environmental plasticity of this group of fishe
