    Trust Evaluation for Embedded Systems Security research challenges identified from an incident network scenario

    This paper is about trust establishment and trust evaluations techniques. A short background about trust, trusted computing and security in embedded systems is given. An analysis has been done of an incident network scenario with roaming users and a set of basic security needs has been identified. These needs have been used to derive security requirements for devices and systems, supporting the considered scenario. Using the requirements, a list of major security challenges for future research regarding trust establishment in dynamic networks have been collected and elaboration on some different approaches for future research has been done.This work was supported by the Knowledge foundation and RISE within the ARIES project

    Development of acute myocardial infarction in a young female patient with essential thrombocythemia treated with anagrelide: a case report

    Essential thrombocythemia (ET) is a chronic myeloproliferative disorder with a prolonged clinical course. Since this disorder is considered to be at increased risk of thromboembolism, therapy is mainly focused on the decreased risk of thrombohemorrhagic events by use of cytotoxic agents. Anagrelide is a phosphodiesterase III inhibitor which is utilized in the treatment of ET for the reduction of platelets. However, patients treated with anagrelide might experience cardiovascular adverse effects including myocardial infarction (MI), although these events are rare. Herein, we report a case of a 30-year-old female with well controlled ET by anagrelide, who eventually developed an acute non-ST elevation myocardial infarction (MI). There has no found any cardiovascular risk factors in this ET patient, strongly suggesting that anagrelide might be the cause of MI. Therefore, cardiovascular function should be monitored in those patients prescribed with anagrelide

    Chronic instability of the anterior tibiofibular syndesmosis of the ankle. Arthroscopic findings and results of anatomical reconstruction

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>The arthroscopic findings in patients with chronic anterior syndesmotic instability that need reconstructive surgery have never been described extensively.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>In 12 patients the clinical suspicion of chronic instability of the syndesmosis was confirmed during arthroscopy of the ankle. All findings during the arthroscopy were scored. Anatomical reconstruction of the anterior tibiofibular syndesmosis was performed in all patients. The AOFAS score was assessed to evaluate the result of the reconstruction. At an average of 43 months after the reconstruction all patients were seen for follow-up.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>The syndesmosis being easily accessible for the 3 mm transverse end of probe which could be rotated around its longitudinal axis in all cases during arthroscopy of the ankle joint, confirmed the diagnosis. Cartilage damage was seen in 8 ankles, of which in 7 patients the damage was situated at the medial side of the ankle joint. The intraarticular part of anterior tibiofibular ligament was visibly damaged in 5 patients. Synovitis was seen in all but one ankle joint. After surgical reconstruction the AOFAS score improved from an average of 72 pre-operatively to 92 post-operatively.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>To confirm the clinical suspicion, the final diagnosis of chronic instability of the anterior syndesmosis can be made during arthroscopy of the ankle. Cartilage damage to the medial side of the tibiotalar joint is often seen and might be the result of syndesmotic instability. Good results are achieved by anatomic reconstruction of the anterior syndesmosis, and all patients in this study would undergo the surgery again if necessary.</p

    Right-wing populist parties in the media and political party success in the elections : A comparative case study trough a quantitative content analysis of the Swedish Democrats and the Progress Party in the daily press

    In recent years a wave of right-wing populist parties has sweep in Europe. Two of these are Sweden’s Swedish Democrats and Norway’s Progress Party. The purpose of this thesis is to contribute to research on how political parties are portrayed in mainstream media and how that may influence political party success in the elections. Content of two daily newspapers over two months before the last parliamentary elections in Sweden and Norway is examined within the study. The method used is a quantitative content analysis. The result was added to the agenda setting theory. From the result, an analysis was conducted to reveal how publication in newspapers can be expected to affect or not affect the selected parties’ successes in the elections. The result shows that the Progress Party receives more space in the daily press than the Swedish Democrats. Both parties are often mentioned in relation to other parties. In several articles, other parties want to show that there is a difference between their basic values, as opposed to the right-wing populist parties. Negative value words appear in the articles, especially in the case of the Swedish Democrats. There are both negative and neutral values in the case of the Progress Party. However, the articles often appear in a neutral way. The conclusion is that the daily press does not seem to have influence over the political parties’ successes in the elections in this case

    Poietic design : Heuristics and applications

    Good design is often derived from user-centred design, and systems have to be too adapted for their users. This delimits the system and the user alike. With poietic design, the system is designed to be less limited and the user is encouraged to get a deeper, more intuitive understanding of how it works. The properties of the proposed design philosophy poietic design are based on theoretical research and examples of artefacts that excel in communicating how they work. The properties, or heuristics, are used to analyse a digital system and a display, and to propose poietic redesigns. An experiment is conducted where the performance of the poietically designed display is compared to an ecological interface design (EID) display. The EID display was optimised for one of the tasks executed while the poietic display was designed to perform approximately as good for both tasks. The results show that the poietic design performed better than the EID display in the task that the EID design was not specifically designed for. This implies that poietic design has good potential to be used as a way to design information visualisation displays

    Chronic lateral instability of the ankle joint : natural course, pathophysiology and steroradiographic evaluation of conservative and surgical treatment

    Chronic lateral instability of the ankle (CLI), defined as frequent sprains and recurrent giving way, difficulty in walking and running on uneven surface, is often connected with pain and swollen ankles. It occurs in 10 to 20 percent after acute ankle injuries. Mechanical instability of the talocrural and subtalar joint, peroneal weakness and impaired proprioception has been suggested as etiological factors. Aim. To investigate the natural course in conservatively treated patients with CLI. To assess the mechanical stability in patients with CLI by measuring the three dimensional motions in the talus, the fibula and the calcaneus in relation to the tibia during different testing procedures pre- and postoperatively. To determine if CLI is associated with proprioceptive deficiency. Patients and Methods. This Thesis includes 127 ankles in 78 patients (30 women, 48 men) with CLI. Thirty-seven patients were followed up 20 years after their first contact with the orthopaedic department because of CLI. Forty-six ankles were evaluated radiographically and the result was compared with a gender- and age - matched control-material. The neuromuscular response to a sudden angular displacement of the ankles was studied in 15 ankles in 13 patients using EMG. Thirty-six patients entered a prospective study using roentgen stereophotogrammetric analysis (RSA) in which the ankles were tested at manual adduction, adduction with predetermined torque, with and without external support and at drawer tests (40 N and 160N). Twenty-seven patients were followed five years postoperatively. Result. After 20 years 22 patients, conservatively treated still suffered from instability of the ankle and ten had recurrent giving way symptoms even on plane surface. Six ankles in the patient group and four in the control group displayed osteoarthritic changes Prolonged ipsilateral reaction time (m. per. long, and m. tib. ant.) was found in patients with CLI indicating proprioceptive insufficiency. Increased talar adduction and a tendency toward increased total translation of the talar center was found in ankles with CLI. Concomitant fibular rotations and translations were found but with no conclusive deviation in the ankles with symptoms. The talo-calcaneal adduction reached the same level in the patient and control groups regardless of symptoms. External support (ankle brace) increased the talar stability. The use of predetermined torque and constrained testing procedure did not add information compared with the manual test Twenty-five patients graded the result as excellent or good five years after lateral ligament reconstruction. Talar stability (decreased adduction and translation) was increased two years postoperatively and was improved or remained the same at five years without comprising the range of motion. Conclusion. In more than half the cases symptoms of CLI did not resolve spontaneously. Minor degenerative changes was found after twenty years, but not to a greater extent than in a control group. CLI was associated with proprioceptive insufficiency and talocrural but not subtalar instability. Increased ankle stability can be obtained by the use of an ankle brace and by an anatomical ligament reconstruction.Diss. (sammanfattning) UmeÄ : UmeÄ universitet, 1994digitalisering@um

Uppdragsgivare för projektet Àr Support Design AB i Sunne. Arbetet handlar om att ta fram ett konceptförslag för funktionen som reglerar höjden pÄ kontorsstolen Saga. Stolens gasfjÀder bestÀmmer höjden pÄ stolen och regleras idag med hjÀlp av en vajerinfÀstning. VajerinfÀstningen medför att stolen endast kan demonteras av en kvalificerad montör och ger upphov till en osÀker konstruktion. Projektets huvuduppgift Àr att kvalitetssÀkra mekanismen och förenkla avlÀgsnande av gasfjÀder. Projektet bygger pÄ en designprocess som inleds med en förstudie. För att sÀkerstÀlla en god grund till att utveckla ett hÄllbart konceptförslag undersöks befintliga lösningar pÄ andra kontorsstolar. Förstudien behandlar Àven: undersökning av befintlig mekanism, kontorsstolsstandarder, hur man konstruerar mot en hÄllbar konstruktion och undersökning om hur en gasfjÀder demonteras frÄn en mekanism. Resultaten frÄn förstudien anvÀnds till en produktspecifikation. IfrÄn den skapas olika koncept som leder fram till ett slutligt konceptval.
