    Airport terminals and desert planes: re-visiting the border in the terminal and no country for old men

    Eighteen years after the 9/11 attacks in New York and Washington and in the present context of bitter conflict over the building of a wall across the US-Mexico border promoted by current President of the United States, Donald Trump, this article reads Steven Spielberg's The Terminal and the Coen Brothers' No Country for Old Men through the use of border theory and Cosmopolitanism. The main aim of the article is to reveal the mechanisms by which these films promote and intervene in an ongoing debate on the nature of the nation-state and the role of national borders in the creation of national identities. The two films appear to consolidate certain social imaginaries while highlighting the extent to which, though the turn of the millennium seemed to promise a world with more mobile, hybrid identities in multicultural spaces, most social and cultural realities still tend to be trapped within nation-state borders which prove the staying power of national identities

    Mediating Effects of Social Support in the Association Between Problems in Childhood and Adolescence and Well‑Being in Adult Domestic Adoptees

    Research concerning adulthood and adoption has gained popularity in recent years, but there are very few studies involving positive variables of adjustment. Adopted people are believed to have more behavioral and emotional problems in childhood than the general population. Previous research suggests overall continuity of functioning in later life. However, certain variables might change that continuity. Through Structural Equation Modeling analyses, this paper assesses the mediating role of social support in the well-being of 70 adult adoptees. Findings showed a well-fitted model, where problems in adolescence had a direct effect on well-being in adulthood. Additionally, we found two mediating effects: (a) social support mediated the relationship between problems in adolescence and well-being later in life; and (b) problems in adolescence mediated the relationship between problems in childhood and well-being. The main implication of these results is that social support helps develop good levels of adjustment and well-being in adulthood. Taking all this into account, it is important for adoption professionals to encourage families to support their children and to provide additional support for those adoptees needing it

    Significatividad de la implementación curricular del modelo de Van Hiele

    Este trabajo analiza la significatividad de la aplicación del modelo de Van Hiele en Geometría de 1o de ESO. Por una parte, se aplicó un cuestionario válido y fiable a 137 alumnos antes y después de estudiar la asignatura, determinando los errores al inicio del curso y los persistentes tras el estudio y constatando la inexistencia de diferencias significativas en el aprendizaje por razón de género. Por otra parte, se realizó un estudio cuasi-experimental del aprendizaje en dos grupos de 18 y 21 alumnos de la muestra anterior. Uno de estos grupos se seleccionó como grupo experimental y utilizó las unidades didácticas elaboradas para la investigación, basadas en el modelo de Van Hiele. El grupo de contraste siguió la metodología tradicional. Se encontraron diferencias significativas favorables al grupo experimental y se analizó en detalle la corrección de los errores

    Medida del impacto económico de la salida del mercado laboral de trabajadores inmigrantes en la Comunidad de Madrid

    This paper analyses the economic impact of the loss of employment suffered by the immigrant population in Madrid’s regional economy during the years of the latest economic crisis, specifically during the period 2010-2016. First, it examines the labour characteristics of the immigrant population, a community mainly employed in unstable and low-skilled jobs and overrepresented in economic sectors that are sensitive to fluctuations in the labour market. Financial crisis forced these workers exiting labour market and the present work focuses on the modelling of this phenomenon by means of the construction of a multisectoral model of the supply-side type, also known as Ghosh model. This analytic approach provides estimates of the direct impacts of the immigrant working population leaving the labour market, and of its indirect and induced impacts on the greater economy.Este trabajo analiza el coste para la economía madrileña de la pérdida de empleos que ha sufrido la población activa extranjera en los años de la crisis, en concreto en el período 2010-2016. En primer lugar, se analizan las características laborales de la población inmigrante, población que en su mayoría cubre puestos de trabajo inestables y de baja cualificación, estando sobrerrepresentada en sectores económicos que son muy sensibles a las fluctuaciones del mercado laboral. La crisis financiera obligó a estos trabajadores a abandonar el mercado laboral y el presente trabajo se centra en la modelización de este fenómeno mediante la construcción de un modelo multisectorial de oferta, también conocido como modelo Ghosh. Este enfoque analítico proporciona estimaciones de los impactos directos en la población trabajadora inmigrante que abandona el mercado laboral, y de los impactos indirectos e inducidos en la economía en general

    Moduli Spaces of Semistable Sheaves on Singular Genus One Curves

    We find some equivalences of the derived category of coherent sheaves on a Gorenstein genus one curve that preserve the (semi)-stability of pure dimensional sheaves. Using them we establish new identifications between certain Simpson moduli spaces of semistable sheaves on the curve. For rank zero, the moduli spaces are symmetric powers of the curve whilst for a fixed positive rank there are only a finite number of non-isomorphic spaces. We prove similar results for the relative semistable moduli spaces on an arbitrary genus one fibration with no conditions either on the base or on the total space. For a cycle ENE_N of projective lines, we show that the unique degree 0 stable sheaves are the line bundles having degree 0 on every irreducible component and the sheaves O(1)\mathcal{O}(-1) supported on one irreducible component. We also prove that the connected component of the moduli space that contains vector bundles of rank rr is isomorphic to the rr-th symmetric product of the rational curve with one node.Comment: 26 pages, 4 figures.     Allanamiento a cargos en casos de flagrancia en el marco de la Ley 1453 de 2011

    Ha generado polémica en la comunidad jurídica colombiana, el parágrafo del artículo 301 del código procedimiento penal introducido por el artículo 57 de la ley 1453 de 2011, relacionado con la rebaja de pena en los casos de captura en flagrancia, la cual se reduce de hasta el cincuenta por ciento a una cuarta parte. El esquema de rebajas para los capturados en situación de flagrancia que decidan allanarse a los cargos en la audiencia de formulación de imputación o con posterioridad a ella, generó en la praxis judicial diferentes interpretaciones, con la entrada en vigencia de la ley 1453de 2011. Unos operadores judiciales estimaban que la rebaja era hasta del cincuenta por ciento de la pena imponible, aplicando la excepción de inconstitucionalidad y dando cumplimiento a la disminución consagrada en el artículo 351 de la ley 906 de 2004. Otros consideraron que el beneficio era de una cuarta parte de la pena a imponer aplicando literalmente la rebaja contenida en el parágrafo de la norma referida. Finalmente conforme con criterio de la Corte Constitucional se señala que debe extenderse a todas las oportunidades procesales en que el capturado en flagrancia se allane a cargos o suscriba acuerdos con la Fiscalía General de la Nación obteniendo como rebaja solo una cuarta parte del cincuenta por ciento para el caso de la formulación de imputación, así mismo para las otras oportunidades procesales en que es posible allanarse a cargos, la disminución será de una cuarta parte de la rebaja concedida por la ley.It has generated controversy in the legal community Colombian paragraph of Article 301 of the Criminal Procedure Code introduced by Article 57 of Law 1453 of 2011, related to the reduction of penalty in cases of catch in the act, which is reduced to fifty percent to one quarter. Finally in accordance with criteria of the Constitutional Court notes that should be extended to all procedural opportunities that will pave caught red handed or subscribe charges agreements with the Attorney General's Office obtained the downward only a quarter to fifty percent for the formulation of imputation, likewise for the other procedural opportunities that may yield to charges, the decline will be a quarter of the price reduction granted by law

    En este artículo presentamos resultados de investigación relacionados con la tipología, naturaleza y evolución de los errores en la sustracción. El objetivo principal de la investigación trata de indagar sobre si en nuestro contexto escolar se producen errores sistemáticos y si disminuyen a lo largo de la escolaridad. Asimismo, comparamos los resultados obtenidos con los aportados por autores de referencia en este campo de investigación. Para ello, efectuamos un análisis sobre 7.140 restas realizadas por niños/as escolarizados en 2º, 3º, 4º, 5º y 6º de Educación Primaria. Los resultados demuestran la existencia de errores sistemáticos y tipología concreta de los mismos, hecho de indudable valor a la hora de programar didácticamente el proceso de enseñanza.In this article, we presented results related to the typology, nature and evolution of the errors in subtraction. The main aim, is to examine if in our school context systematic errors take place and if these decrease throughout schooling. Also, we compared our results with the ones contributed by authors of reference in this field of research. To do so, we carried out an analysis on 7140 subtractions made by children in our educational system. The results demonstrate the existence of systematic errors in our scholastic context, a fact of doubtless value when programming the learning process didactically
