Analysing definition questions by two machine learning approaches

In automatic question answering, the identification of the correct target term (i.e. the term to define) in a definition question is critical since if the target term is not correctly identified, then all subsequent modules have no chance of providing relevant nuggets. In this paper, we present a method to tag a question sentence experimenting with two learning approaches: QTag and Hidden Markov Model. We tested the methods in five collections of questions, PILOT, TREC 2003, TREC 2004, CLEF 2004 and CLEF 2005. We performed ten-fold cross validation for each collection and we also tested with all questions together. Interpretación genética de las mineralizaciones de Pb-Zn del Ordovicico superiro de La Vall d'Aran (Lérida)

Las mineralizaciones de PbZn del Ordovícico superior de La Vall d'Aran son de tipo estratiforme, asociadas a facies calcáreo-detríticas. La mena está constituida mayoritariamente por esfalerita, pirrotina y galena, habiéndose detectado además 12 especies minerales secundarias.El área estudiada se ha dividido en dos zonas: Bossost y el valle del río Unyola. En total se han investigado ocho afloramientos de mineralización, formando parte todos ellos del mismo tipo, tanto morfológico como mineralógico, de yacimiento.A partir del estudio macro y microscópico de las mineralizaciones, se hapodido determinar que éstas han sufrido un metamorfismo el cual ha dado lugar a una serie de texturas de deformación y recristalización en los minerales. En algunos puntos, sin embargo, donde las mineralizaciones se han visto menos afectadas por la deformación, se han observado estructuras sedimentarias en los sulfuros.Por todo ello, se puede deducir que las mineralizaciones estudiadas son de origen sedimentario, anteriores al metamorfismo herciniano que las ha afectado y que no están relacionadas con el hidrotermalismo tardihercinico asociado a la intrusión de las granodioritas de la zona axial pirenaica

Network perspective of histamine related diseases

Histamine is the most pleiotropic biogenic amine. Produced and stored by a limited set of cells—histaminergic neurons, enterochromaffin-like cells, and mast cells—it broadcasts intercellular communication signals to a wide variety of cell types through its tissue-specific receptors. The many molecular interactions of these receptors and other mediators result in complex cellular networks whose alteration result in disease. Therefore, complex diseases map to modules of these cellular networks in the diseasomes. In this communication, we survey the histamine cellular networks to map the histamine diseasome, presenting a network view of the pleiotropy of histamine and its role in several complex diseases.A.A. Effect of preparation conditions on the polymorphism and transport properties of lanthanum molybdates

In this work, La6MoO12-based compounds were investigated as part of a new family of materials very competitive as hydrogen separation membranes [1,2]. La5.4MoO11.1 was synthesized by the freeze-drying precursor method and the calcination conditions were optimized in order to obtain single phases. Several cooling rates were applied and different polymorphs were obtained: a simple cubic fluorite symmetry (Fm-3m) for the sample cooled by quenching, and two different rhombohedral (R-3) space groups for the samples cooled at 50 ºC•min-1 and 0.5 ºC•min-1 (see Figure below). For the quenched sample, the Rietveld refinement was satisfactory in a Fm-3m space group. For the other two compositions no structural model was available and were indexed in a R-3 space group, however some small reflections were not given any intensity by the model used. Transmission electron microscopy confirmed the presence of superstructures for those samples. All ceramic materials were obtained with relative densities close to 100% after sintering at 1500 ºC. Stability studies demonstrated that all three polymorphs were stable in oxidizing and reducing conditions at 800 ºC for 48 hours. The three samples present a significant proton contribution to the conductivity at temperatures lower than 800 ºC. These results were confirmed by thermogravimetric analysis. The highest conductivity values were observed for the samples prepared by quenching. The three polymorphs display a small p-type electronic contribution to the overall conductivity in oxidizing conditions and n-type electronic one in very reducing conditions, much more significant for the samples cooled by quenching and at 50 ºC•min-1.Universidad de Málaga. Supporting the Review of Student Proposal Drafts in Information Technologies

ABSTRACT In many cases, academic programs or courses conclude with a thesis or research proposal text, elaborated by students. The review of such texts is a heavy load, especially at initial stages of drafting. This paper proposes a model that allows linguistic and structural review of some essential elements in proposal drafts of undergraduate students. The model aims to support the review from vocabulary to the argumentation in the draft, and is part of an intelligent tutor to monitor student progress. This work presents the initial results in terms of lexical and global coherence analysis of proposal drafts of students. Lexical analysis is done in terms of lexical density, lexical diversity, and sophistication. Global coherence is evaluated using the Latent Semantic Analysis technique. Our results show that the level reached so far by the analyzer is adequate to support the review, taking into account for one section the level of agreement with human reviewers

El control de procesos toma en cuenta la medición y el análisis de las variables que determinan el funcionamiento de un proceso así como la toma de decisiones y la ejecución de acciones de control para gobernar dicho proceso. Aun cuando el control del proceso se realice con fines netamente operativos, siempre es posible capturar y almacenar información, que puede ser eficientemente procesada con fines de  mantenimiento, como es el caso del mantenimiento predictivo. Asimismo, se acostumbra instrumentar máquinas y equipos de proceso para adquirir datos exclusivos para estos fines. Como una opción más, se pueden automatizar las tareas de mantenimiento
