Established of Bank lslam Malaysia Berhad (BIMB) in the country in 1983 was a great booster to the lslamic financial system. To the Muslims in majority, a lot of things were expected from the operation of the bank. They hope to see that the Islamic Bank should plays its roles, not only to run a banking business for profits, but also to serve the Muslims in particular, the nation at large, in Islamic ways. Nevertheless, to survive, and to compete with the existing and more established conventional banks, Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad has to show good and convincing performance with its lslamic accountability norms. The bank should win people's trust and prove that Islamic banking system is indeed the best and most practical as an alternative financial system. The objective of this study is to determine the relationship between the dimension of service quality in lslamic Banking and customer satisfaction. The study based on the CARTER instrumentation was introduced by Qawi and Lynn (2001) was adaptation from SERVQUAL instrument developed by Parasuraman et al (1985). The CARTER instrumentation was used to measure six dimension of service quality in lslamic banking such as compliance, assurance, reliability, tangible, empathy and responsiveness. The relationship between dimension of service quality in Bank lslam Malaysia Berhad (BIMB) and customer satisfaction was observed. Data collected were analyzed using the program Statistical Package for Social Science(SPSS). To measure the service quality of BIMB the statiscal analysis Coleration, t-test and ANOVA was used in this study. The sample consisted of 160 customers using the service of Islamic Banking BIMB Kuala Terengganu. The finding of this study indicated that there was a significant relationship between dimension of service quality in lslamic Banking and customer satisfaction. Compliance, assurance, reliability, tangible, empathy and responsiveness analysis showed that there was a strong significant influence on customer satisfaction in Islamic banking

Studies in the syntax of Targum Jonathan to Samuel

    Get PDF
This doctoral dissertation consists of a linguistic study of the Aramaic of Targum Jonathan. Targum Jonathan (and its twin Targum Onqelos) is a paraphrastic translation of the Hebrew Bible into Aramaic. Although it is usually recognized that it reached its final shape in Babylonia in the early centuries of our era, nowadays it is generally assumed that it was originally composed on Palestinian soil and found its way to Babylonia at a later stage. The question of its exact origin, however, has never been conclusively answered. Taking the Books of Samuel as a basis, this doctoral dissertation investigates five points of the syntax of the Aramaic of Targum Jonathan (determination, viz. the uses of the absolute and emphatic states; morphosyntax of the numerals; distribution of the genitive constructions; the verbal system and word order). The findings of this study are then systematically compared to what is known at present of the syntax of other pre-modern Aramaic idioms, in an attempt to classify the Aramaic of Targum Jonathan along dialectological lines and shed additional light on its provenance.LEI Universiteit LeidenMiddle Eastern Studie

SAR Endolysin Regulation in dsDNA Phage Lysis of Gram-Negative Hosts

SAR endolysins are a recently discovered class of muralytic enzymes that are regulated by dynamic membrane topology. They are synthesized as enzymatically inactive integral membrane proteins during the phage infection cycle and then are activated by conformational remodeling upon release from the membrane. This topological duality depends on N-terminal SAR (Signal-Anchor-Release) domains, which are enriched in weakly hydrophobic residues and require the proton motive force to be maintained in the bilayer. The first SAR endolysin to be characterized was P1 Lyz, of phage P1. Its activation requires a disulfide bond isomerization involving its catalytic Cys initiated by a free cysteine thiol from the newly-liberated SAR domain. A second mode of disulfide bond regulation, as typified by Lyz103 of the Erwinia Amylovora phage ERA103, has been demonstrated. In its membrane bound form, Lyz103 is inactivated by a disulfide that is formed between cysteine residues flanking a catalytic glutamate. A second class of SAR endolysins, typified by R21, the lysozyme of the lambdoid phage 21, does not require disulfide bond isomerization for activation. Rather, these proteins are dependent on the release of the SAR domain for proper folding of the catalytic cleft. Bioinformatic analysis indicates that the regulatory theme of R21 is common in the SAR endolysins of dsDNA phages. Furthermore, bioinformatic study of endolysins of dsDNA phage of Gram-negative hosts revealed two new classes of SAR endolysins that are not homologous to T4 gpe, as all SAR endolysins were once thought to be. SAR endolysins were found in nearly 25% of sequenced dsDNA phages of Gram- negative hosts including 933W, which is involved in the release of Shiga toxin from EHEC strain EDL933. An inhibitor study against the SAR endolysin of 933W, R933W, was performed using a custom compound library in a high through-put, in vivo lysis assay. Of nearly 8,000 compounds screened, one compound, designated 67-J8, inhibited lysis but not growth. In vivo and in vitro experiments show that the compound has no effect on R933W activity, accumulation, or secretion. In vivo experiments suggest that 67-J8 increases the proton motive force, thereby presumably retaining the SAR domain in the membrane

Stabilization of Haloalkane Dehalogenase Structure by Interfacial Interaction with Ionic Liquids

    Get PDF
Ionic liquids attracted interest as green alternatives to replace conventional organic solvents in protein stability studies. They can play an important role in the stabilization of enzymes such as haloalkane dehalogenases that are used for biodegradation of warfare agents and halogenated environmental pollutants. Three-dimensional crystals of haloalkane dehalogenase variant DhaA80 (T148L+G171Q+A172V+C176F) from Rhodococcus rhodochrous NCIMB 13064 were grown and soaked with the solutions of 2-hydroxyethylammonium acetate and 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium methyl sulfate. The objective was to study the structural basis of the interactions between the ionic liquids and the protein. The diffraction data were collected for the 1.25 angstrom resolution for 2-hydroxyethylammonium acetate and 1.75 angstrom resolution for 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium methyl sulfate. The structures were used for molecular dynamics simulations to study the interactions of DhaA80 with the ionic liquids. The findings provide coherent evidence that ionic liquids strengthen both the secondary and tertiary protein structure due to extensive hydrogen bond interactions

Description of Transport Tunnel in Haloalkane Dehalogenase Variant LinB D147C+L177C from Sphingobium japonicum

The activity of enzymes with active sites buried inside their protein core highly depends on the efficient transport of substrates and products between the active site and the bulk solvent. The engineering of access tunnels in order to increase or decrease catalytic activity and specificity in a rational way is a challenging task. Here, we describe a combined experimental and computational approach to characterize the structural basis of altered activity in the haloalkane dehalogenase LinB D147C+L177C variant. While the overall protein fold is similar to the wild type enzyme and the other LinB variants, the access tunnels have been altered by introduced cysteines that were expected to form a disulfide bond. Surprisingly, the mutations have allowed several conformations of the amino acid chain in their vicinity, interfering with the structural analysis of the mutant by X-ray crystallography. The duration required for the growing of protein crystals changed from days to 1.5 years by introducing the substitutions. The haloalkane dehalogenase LinB D147C+L177C variant crystal structure was solved to 1.15 angstrom resolution, characterized and deposited to Protein Data Bank under PDB ID 6s06
