Legal Aid in Illinois: Selected Social and Economic Benefits
This study estimates the economic benefits of cases closed by seven legal aid providers in 2010. It also provides a picture of the level of economic disadvantage experienced by clients who benefited from legal aid using data on clients' average household size and income
Incentivizing Postmarketing Pharmaceutical Product Safety Testing with Extension of Exclusivity Periods
Methods for the numerical solution of degenerate linear and nonlinear elliptic boundary value problems
Numerical solution for variety of nonlinear degenerate elliptic boundary value problems, and convergence of associated iterative procedure
Nonlinear filtering - The exact dynamical equations satisfied by the conditional mode
Nonlinear filtering - exact dynamical equations satisfied by conditional mod
Stability and existence of diffusions with discontinuous or rapidly growing drift terms
Local stochastic stability property used to prove stability and existence of diffusions with rapidly growing drift term
Convergence of the discretization equations which arise in stochastic control
A problem is considered which arises in the numerical analysis of the degenerate partial differential equations of stochastic control theory. The relationship between diffusions and finite state Markov chains is considered. The role of probability theory in numerical analysis is illustrated
The Arts Economy in 20 Cities: Where Does Atlanta Stand?
The tremendous growth that Atlanta has experienced over the past decade has catapulted the city into a major metropolitan hub. Along with this growth, many issues have gained significance with regards to plans for the city's future direction of growth. One sector in particular that demands greater attention is the area of non-profit arts and art policy. The arts and culture have many perceived benefits for a community. The arts are commonly thought to improve a community's cultural life, revitalize urban areas, and while they also provide a base of support for artists and art organizations, may also ultimately stimulate economic growth. These benefits are thought to yield other desirable outcomes such as a safe and agreeable downtown, and an attractive site for business relocation.Unfortunately, non-profit regional arts in Atlanta have faced challenges in the areas of funding and audience development and there is anecdotal evidence that arts support is being provided by a relatively small segment of society. The Atlanta Arts Think Tank perceived that one appropriate way to validate the importance of these problems was to analyze data on Atlanta's regional performance, relative to other metropolitan peers. The purpose of this study is to gain a better understanding of the factors that might explain the condition of arts organizations in the region. The study compares Atlanta to nineteen of its peers in an attempt to determine where and if Atlanta is falling short, and what can be learned from other communities
Environmental projects. Volume 7: Environmental resources document
The Goldstone Deep Space Communications Complex (GDSCC) in Barstow, California, is part of the NASA Deep Space Network, one of the world's largest and most sensitive scientific telecommunications and radio navigation networks. Goldstone is managed, directed and operated by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory of Pasadena, California. The GDSCC includes five distinct operational sites: Echo, Venus, Mars, Apollo, and Mojave Base. Within each site is a Deep Space Station (DPS), consisting of a large dish antenna and its support facilities. As required by NASA directives concerning the implementation of the National Environmental Policy Act, each NASA field installation is to publish an Environmental Resources Document describing the current environment at the installation, including any adverse effects that NASA operations may have on the local environment
Interplay between Swelling Kinetics and Nanostructure in Perfluorosulfonic Acid Thin-Films: Role of Hygrothermal Aging
Impacts of processing, storage, and operation on thin-film perfluorosulfonic acid (PFSA) ionomer coatings used in electrodes of electrochemical devices remains unestablished. In this work, alteration of structure-function relationship in ionomers is achieved via exposure to elevated temperature and humidity (hygrothermal aging). Findings reflect a strong inverse correlation between aging-induced ionomer thin-film domain orientation and water-transport kinetics evaluated from swelling. Impact of aging is shown to be more pronounced on platinum due to interactions with PFSA, as evidenced by greater increase in nanodomain orientation parallel to substrate accompanied by reduced water transport, in contrast to silicon support
