Impact of European Integration on the Functioning of the Insurance Market in Poland
The transformation process, that has begun 20 years ago, generated significant changes in the structure and organization of Polish economy. It stimulated development of particular market's segments, especially of the insurance sector. Poland's accession to the European Union required conformity to Its regulations, fulfillment of several conditions connected with the membership in the European Community. The purpose of this article is to present the main consequences of Poland's integration with EU in the field of insurance market. Joining the common market was an important challenge for this sector in our country.Rok 1990 stanowił początek procesu transformacji systemu społeczno - gospodarczego i ustrojowego. Przystąpienie Polski do Unii Europejskiej wymagało wprowadzenia szeregu zmian, dostosowujących polski porządek prawny do uregulowań wspólnotowych regulujących funkcjonowanie rynku ubezpieczeń.
Lorentz Invariance Violation induced time delays in GRBs in different cosmological models
Lorentz Invariance Violation (LIV) manifesting itself by energy dependent
modification of standard relativistic dispersion relation has recently
attracted a considerable attention. Ellis et al. previously investigated the
energy dependent time offsets in different energy bands on a sample of gamma
ray bursts and, assuming standard cosmological model, they found a weak
indication for redshift dependence of time delays suggestive of LIV. Going
beyond the CDM cosmology we extend this analysis considering also four
alternative models of dark energy (quintessence with constant and variable
equation of state, Chaplygin gas and brane-world cosmology). It turns out that
the effect noticed by Ellis et al. is also present in those models and is the
strongest for quintessence with variable equation of state.Comment: 14 pages, 1 figur
Observational hints on the Big Bounce
In this paper we study possible observational consequences of the bouncing
cosmology. We consider a model where a phase of inflation is preceded by a
cosmic bounce. While we consider in this paper only that the bounce is due to
loop quantum gravity, most of the results presented here can be applied for
different bouncing cosmologies. We concentrate on the scenario where the scalar
field, as the result of contraction of the universe, is driven from the bottom
of the potential well. The field is amplified, and finally the phase of the
standard slow-roll inflation is realized. Such an evolution modifies the
standard inflationary spectrum of perturbations by the additional oscillations
and damping on the large scales. We extract the parameters of the model from
the observations of the cosmic microwave background radiation. In particular,
the value of inflaton mass is equal to GeV. In
our considerations we base on the seven years of observations made by the WMAP
satellite. We propose the new observational consistency check for the phase of
slow-roll inflation. We investigate the conditions which have to be fulfilled
to make the observations of the Big Bounce effects possible. We translate them
to the requirements on the parameters of the model and then put the
observational constraints on the model. Based on assumption usually made in
loop quantum cosmology, the Barbero-Immirzi parameter was shown to be
constrained by from the cosmological observations. We have
compared the Big Bounce model with the standard Big Bang scenario and showed
that the present observational data is not informative enough to distinguish
these models.Comment: 25 pages, 8 figures, JHEP3.cl
Molecular detection of thyroglobulin mRNA transcripts in peripheral blood of patients with thyroid disease by RT-PCR
The sensitive detection of circulating tumour cells in patients with differentiated thyroid cancer may precede the detection of relapse by other diagnostic studies – such as serum thyroglobulin – and thus may have important therapeutic and prognostic implications. We performed reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) on blood samples from patients diagnosed with thyroid disease using two different RT-PCR sensitivities. Additionally, tissue specificity of TG mRNA-expression was determined using RNA extracts from 27 different human tissues. The lower limit of detection was 50–100 TG mRNA producing cells/ml blood using a ‘normal’ RT-PCR sensitivity and 10–20 cells/ml blood using a ‘high’ sensitivity. With the normal sensitivity TG mRNA was detected in 9/13 patients with thyroid cancer and metastasis, 63/137 patients with a history of thyroid cancer and no metastasis, 21/85 with non-malignant thyroid disease and 9/50 controls. With the high sensitivity TG mRNA was detected in 11/13 patients with thyroid cancer and metastasis, 111/137 patients with a history of thyroid cancer and no metastasis, 61/85 with non-malignant thyroid disease and 41/50 controls. Interestingly, using the normal RT-PCR sensitivity TG mRNA transcripts are specific for thyroid tissue and detectable in the peripheral blood of controls and patients with thyroid disease, which correlates with a diagnosis of metastasized thyroid cancer. However, with a high RT-PCR sensitivity, TG mRNA expression was found not to be specific for thyroid tissue and was not correlated with a diagnosis of thyroid cancer in patients. As a consequence, to date TG mRNA detected by RT-PCR in the peripheral blood cannot be recommended as a tumour marker superior to TG serum-level. © 2000 Cancer Research Campaig
Density growth in Kantowski-Sachs cosmologies with cosmological constant
In this work the growth of density perturbations in Kantowski-Sachs
cosmologies with a positive cosmological constant is studied, using the 1+3 and
1+1+2 covariant formalisms. For each wave number we obtain a closed system for
scalars formed from quantities that are zero on the background and hence are
gauge-invariant. The solutions to this system are then analyzed both
analytically and numerically. In particular the effects of anisotropy and the
behaviour close to a bounce in the cosmic scale factor are considered. We find
that typically the density gradient in the bouncing directions experiences a
local maximum at or slightly after the bounce.Comment: 33 pages, 17 picture
Reconstructing the properties of dark energy from recent observations
We explore the properties of dark energy from recent observational data,
including the Gold Sne Ia, the baryonic acoustic oscillation peak from SDSS,
the CMB shift parameter from WMAP3, the X-ray gas mass fraction in cluster and
the Hubble parameter versus redshift. The model with curvature
and two parameterized dark energy models are studied. For the
model, we find that the flat universe is consistent with observations at the
confidence level and a closed universe is slightly favored by these
data. For two parameterized dark energy models, with the prior given on the
present matter density, , with ,
and , our result seems to suggest that the
trend of dependence for an evolving dark energy from a
combination of the observational data sets is model-dependent.Comment: 16 pages, 15 figures, To appear in JCA
Testing the viability of the interacting holographic dark energy model by using combined observational constraints
Using the data coming from the new 182 Gold type Ia supernova samples, the
shift parameter of the Cosmic Microwave Background given by the three-year
Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe observations, and the baryon acoustic
oscillation measurement from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, and lookback
time measurements, we have performed a statistical joint analysis of the
interacting holographic dark energy model. Consistent parameter estimations
show us that the interacting holographic dark energy model is a viable
candidate to explain the observed acceleration of our universe.Comment: 15 pages, 9 figures, accepted for publication in JCA
Cosmological constraints combining H(z), CMB shift and SNIa observational data
Recently H(z) data obtained from differential ages of galaxies have been
proposed as a new geometrical probe of dark energy. In this paper we use those
data, combined with other background tests (CMB shift and SNIa data), to
constrain a set of general relativistic dark energy models together with some
other models motivated by extra dimensions. Our analysis rests mostly on
Bayesian statistics, and we conclude that LCDM is at least substantially
favoured, and that braneworld models are less favoured than general
relativistic ones.Comment: 17 pages, 11 figures; improved discussion, new figures, updated to

Spin Structure of the Proton from Polarized Inclusive Deep-Inelastic Muon-Proton Scattering
We have measured the spin-dependent structure function in inclusive
deep-inelastic scattering of polarized muons off polarized protons, in the
kinematic range and . A
next-to-leading order QCD analysis is used to evolve the measured
to a fixed . The first moment of at is .
This result is below the prediction of the Ellis-Jaffe sum rule by more than
two standard deviations. The singlet axial charge is found to be . In the Adler-Bardeen factorization scheme, is
required to bring in agreement with the Quark-Parton Model. A
combined analysis of all available proton and deuteron data confirms the
Bjorken sum rule.Comment: 33 pages, 22 figures, uses ReVTex and smc.sty. submitted to Physical
