    Synthesis and Self-Assembly of Gold Nanoparticles by Chemically Modified Polyol Methods under Experimental Control

    In our present research, bottom-up self-assembly of gold (Au) nanoparticles on a flat copper (Cu) substrate is performed by a facile method. The very interesting evidence of self-assembly of Au nanoparticles on the top of the thin assembled layer was observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). We had discovered one of the most general and simple methods for the self-assembly of metal nanoparticles. The general physical and chemical mechanisms of the evaporation process of the solvents can be used for self-assembly of the as-prepared nanoparticles. The important roles of molecules of the used solvents are very critical to self-assembly of the as-prepared Au nanoparticles in the case without using any polymers for those processes. It is clear that self-assembly of such one nanosystem of the uniform Au nanoparticles is fully examined. Finally, an exciting surface plasmon resonance (SPR) phenomenon of the pure Au nanoparticles in the solvent was fully discovered in their exciting changes of the narrow and large SPR bands according to synthesis time. The SPR was considered as the collective oscillation of valence electrons of the surfaces of the pure Au nanoparticles in the solvent by incident ultraviolet-visible light. Then, the frequency of light photons matches the frequency of the oscillation of surface electrons of the Au nanoparticles that are excited

    Peutz-Jeghers Syndrome with Multiple Genital Tract Tumors and Breast Cancer: A Case Report with a Review of Literatures

    We report here on the multiple genital tract neoplasms in a 41-yr-old Korean woman with Peutz-Jeghers Syndrome (PJS). The patient presented with lower abdominal pain. Her previous medical history was PJS and breast cancer. Pelvic ultrasound showed a multilocular cyst at the right adnexal region, diagnosed as bilateral ovarian mucinous borderline tumors. An ovarian sex cord tumor with annular tubules was incidentally diagnosed together with a minimal deviation adenocarcinoma of the uterine cervix and mucinous metaplasia of both the Fallopian tubal mucosa and the endometrium. Although the cases of multiple genital tract tumors with PJS has rarely been reported, the present case appears to be the first in Korea in which the PJS syndrome was complicated by multiple genital tract tumors and infiltrating carcinoma of the breast.     The Role of Predictive Biomarkers in Endocervical Adenocarcinoma: Recommendations From the International Society of Gynecological Pathologists

    To review the scientific evidence related to predictive biomarkers in cervical adenocarcinoma (ADC). The authors reviewed the literature regarding predictive biomarkers in cervical ADC. There were several limitations: (1) there is an overlap between predictive and prognostic biomarkers, as the vast majority of patients are treated with anticancer strategies; (2) in many studies and clinical trials, cervical ADC patients are included in a large series of patients predominantly composed of cervical squamous cell carcinomas; and (3) in most of the studies, and clinical trials, there is no distinction between human papillomavirus (HPV)-associated and HPV-independent cervical ADCs, or between various histologic subtypes. Results obtained from a small group of studies confirm that cervical ADCs exhibit distinct molecular features as compared with squamous carcinomas, and that there are different molecular features between different types of cervical ADCs. Promising areas of interest include ERBB2 (HER2) mutations and PD-L1 expression as predictive biomarkers for anti-HER2 treatment and immunotherapy, respectively. To date, no definitive data can be obtained from the literature regarding predictive biomarkers for cervical ADC. Clinical trials specifically designed for endocervical ADC patients are required to elucidate the predictive value of HER2 mutations and PD-L1 expression. The distinction between HPV-associated and HPV-independent cervical ADCs as well as early involvement of pathologists in the design of future clinical trials are needed to identify new predictive biomarkers in cervical ADC
