Expression analysis of the mouse S100A7/psoriasin gene in skin inflammation and mammary tumorigenesis

BACKGROUND: The human psoriasin (S100A7) gene has been implicated in inflammation and tumor progression. Implementation of a mouse model would facilitate further investigation of its function, however little is known of the murine psoriasin gene. In this study we have cloned the cDNA and characterized the expression of the potential murine ortholog of human S100A7/psoriasin in skin inflammation and mammary tumorigenesis. METHODS: On the basis of chromosomal location, phylogenetic analysis, amino acid sequence similarity, conservation of a putative Jab1-binding motif, and similarities of the patterns of mouse S100A7/psoriasin gene expression (measured by RT-PCR and in-situ hybridization) with those of human S100A7/psoriasin, we propose that mouse S100A7/psoriasin is the murine ortholog of human psoriasin/S100A7. RESULTS: Although mouse S100A7/psoriasin is poorly conserved relative to other S100 family members, its pattern of expression parallels that of the human psoriasin gene. In murine skin S100A7/psoriasin was significantly upregulated in relation to inflammation. In murine mammary gland expression is also upregulated in mammary tumors, where it is localized to areas of squamous differentiation. This mirrors the context of expression in human tumor types where both squamous and glandular differentiation occur, including cervical and lung carcinomas. Additionally, mouse S100A7/psoriasin possesses a putative Jab1 binding motif that mediates many downstream functions of the human S100A7 gene. CONCLUSION: These observations and results support the hypothesis that the mouse S100A7 gene is structurally and functionally similar to human S100A7 and may offer a relevant model system for studying its normal biological function and putative role in tumor progression

Gene duplication and fragmentation in the zebra finch major histocompatibility complex

BACKGROUND: Due to its high polymorphism and importance for disease resistance, the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) has been an important focus of many vertebrate genome projects. Avian MHC organization is of particular interest because the chicken Gallus gallus, the avian species with the best characterized MHC, possesses a highly streamlined minimal essential MHC, which is linked to resistance against specific pathogens. It remains unclear the extent to which this organization describes the situation in other birds and whether it represents a derived or ancestral condition. The sequencing of the zebra finch Taeniopygia guttata genome, in combination with targeted bacterial artificial chromosome (BAC) sequencing, has allowed us to characterize an MHC from a highly divergent and diverse avian lineage, the passerines. RESULTS: The zebra finch MHC exhibits a complex structure and history involving gene duplication and fragmentation. The zebra finch MHC includes multiple Class I and Class II genes, some of which appear to be pseudogenes, and spans a much more extensive genomic region than the chicken MHC, as evidenced by the presence of MHC genes on each of seven BACs spanning 739 kb. Cytogenetic (FISH) evidence and the genome assembly itself place core MHC genes on as many as four chromosomes with TAP and Class I genes mapping to different chromosomes. MHC Class II regions are further characterized by high endogenous retroviral content. Lastly, we find strong evidence of selection acting on sites within passerine MHC Class I and Class II genes. CONCLUSION: The zebra finch MHC differs markedly from that of the chicken, the only other bird species with a complete genome sequence. The apparent lack of synteny between TAP and the expressed MHC Class I locus is in fact reminiscent of a pattern seen in some mammalian lineages and may represent convergent evolution. Our analyses of the zebra finch MHC suggest a complex history involving chromosomal fission, gene duplication and translocation in the history of the MHC in birds, and highlight striking differences in MHC structure and organization among avian lineages

The paper presents new rules of enforcing claims in class proceedings through the context of changes made in the following range: 1) list of cases in which the Polish act on class proceedings is applied, 2) requirements of standardizing the amount of each members money claim, 3) an action that limits the claim for establishing defendant liability, 4) deposit for securing trial fees, 5) proceedings concerning the admissibility of class proceedings, 6) notice of initiation of class proceedings, 7) actions taken after the issue and validation of the court order on the composition of a group, 8) adopting rules of the code of civil procedure in class proceedings.W artykule zostały omówione nowe zasady dochodzenia roszczeń w postępowaniu grupowym przez pryzmat zmian dokonanych w tym postępowaniu w następującym zakresie: 1) katalogu spraw, w których zastosowanie ma ustawa o dochodzeniu roszczeń w postępowaniu grupowym, 2) wymagań związanych z ujednoliceniem wysokości roszczenia każdego członka grupy, 3) powództwa, które ogranicza się do żądania ustalenia odpowiedzialności pozwanego, 4) kaucji na zabezpieczenie kosztów procesu, 5) postępowania w przedmiocie dopuszczalności postępowania grupowego, 6) ogłoszenia o wszczęciu postępowania grupowego, 7) czynności dokonywanych po wydaniu i  uprawomocnieniu się postanowienia w przedmiocie składu grupy, 8) zastosowania przepisów k.p.c. w postępowaniu grupowym

Naruszenie przepisów o nagrywaniu czynności komornika sądowego jako przewinienie dyscyplinarne

The paper first analyzes the important aspects of recording the hearing of the judicial officer’s operation with the use of an audio/video recording device (art. 809 of the Civil Procedure Code). An assessment was then made as to whether infringement of the regulations on recording the oper-ations of a judicial officer constitutes a disciplinary offence. According to art. 222 point 11 Act of Judicial Officers the judicial officer is disciplinarily liable for gross or persistent violation of law other than those mentioned in this provision. This assessment must be made taking into account all the circumstances of the specific case. Generally speaking, it does not seem that the infringement by the judicial officer of the regulations on recording the operations performed with his participation constitutes a gross offence against the provisions of the law. However, it cannot be ruled out that the judicial officer will be assigned a persistent offence of the law, if the violation of the provisions on the recording of the operations will occur repeatedly, for a longer period of time, with the judicial officer’s attitude of ill will to non-compliance with these provisions.W artykule w pierwszej kolejności przeprowadzono analizę ważkich aspektów utrwalania przebiegu czynności komornika za pomocą urządzenia rejestrującego obraz i dźwięk (art. 809 k.p.c.). Następnie przeprowadzono ocenę tego, czy naruszenie przepisów o nagrywaniu czynności komornika stanowi przewinienie dyscyplinarne. Według art. 222 pkt 11 u.k.s. komornik odpowiada dyscyplinarnie za inną niż wymienione w tym przepisie rażącą lub uporczywą obrazę przepisów prawa. Ocena ta musi być dokonywana z uwzględnieniem całokształtu okoliczności konkretnej sprawy. Generalnie rzecz ujmując, nie wydaje się, żeby naruszenie przez komornika przepisów o utrwalaniu przebiegu czynności dokonywanej z jego udziałem stanowiło rażącą obrazę przepisów prawa. Nie można jednak wykluczyć przypisania komornikowi uporczywej obrazy prawa, jeśli do naruszenia przepisów o utrwalaniu przebiegu czynności będzie dochodzić wielokrotnie, przez dłuższy okres czasu, z nastawieniem złej woli nieprzestrzegania tych przepisów
