The aim of the article is: first of all, to recall a chosen thesis from the author’s own book titled Art of music as a domain of culture and apply it to a research of a particular music artwork; and secondly, to propose the author’s own interpretation of the church cantata „Ich hatte viel Bekümmernis” by Johann Sebastian Bach. The text will develop a notion of composite aesthetic value of an artwork

Cultural Theory and History: Theoretical Issues

The book is dedicated to a study of consequences of selected methodological and theoretical concepts used and formulated by historians for the general theory of culture. The issues discussed include the concepts of mentality and the cultural image of the world, including relationships between cultural, social and georaphical issues, and the theory of change and diachronic proccesses. Kulturoznawstwo – kilka refleksji z perspektywy tradycji poznańskiej

Tradycje polskiego kulturoznawstwa zostały uformowane w kilku ośrod- kach naukowych, między którymi – mimo wyraźnie rozpoznawalnego, wspólnego rdzenia – zachodziły i zachodzą istotne różnice. Tego rodza- ju odrębności nie powinny jednak sugerować, że same te ośrodki tworzą pod względem swej orientacji naukowej jakieś monolity czy ukonstytuowa- ne szkoły. Określenie „szkoła” mogło być adekwatne w latach siedemdzie- siątych i osiemdziesiątych dwudziestego wieku, gdy przynajmniej niektóre z ośrodków kulturoznawczych dysponowały względnie zgodnie przyjmo- waną, wspólną podstawą teoretyczną. Tego rodzaju podstawą były na przy- kład społeczno-regulacyjna koncepcja Jerzego Kmity w Poznaniu i koncep- cja kultury Stanisława Pietraszki we Wrocławiu. Obecnie należałoby raczej mówić o lokalnych tradycjach, które zdążyły ulec daleko posuniętemu zróż- nicowaniu i fundamentalnej nieraz krytyce, a także utracić ścisły związek geograficzny z miejscami swego powstania. Rościć sobie dziś prawo do mó- wienia w imieniu na przykład ośrodka poznańskiego byłoby dość zabawną uzurpacją, której nie wziąłby na poważne – i słusznie – chyba nikt z zainte- resowanego środowiska. Toteż pretensji takich sobie nie roszczę. Poniżej po- zwolę sobie jedynie na jak najkrótsze przedstawienie tego, jak kulturoznaw- stwo jako dyscyplina naukowa jawi się pewnemu podpisanemu z imienia i nazwiska kulturoznawcy, którego sposób myślenia został w istotnej mierze, ale przecież nie wyłącznie, ukształtowany przez poznańskie tradycje inte- lektualne. Contribution of stem cells to skeletal muscle regeneration.

Stem cells for skeletal muscle originate from dermomyotome of the embryo. The early marker of these cells is expression of both transcription factors Pax3 and Pax7 (Pax3+/Pax7+ cells). The skeletal muscles in the adult organism have a remarkable ability to regenerate. Skeletal muscle damage induces degenerative phase, followed by activation of inflammatory and satellite cells. The satellite cells are quiescent myogenic precursor cells located between the basal membrane and the sarcolemma of myofiber and they are characterized by Pax7 expression. Activation of the satellite cells is regulated by muscle growth and chemokines. Apart from the satellite cells, a population of adult stem cells (muscle side population--mSP) exists in the skeletal muscles. Moreover, the cells trafficking from different tissues may be involved in the regeneration of damaged muscle. Trafficking of cells in the process of damaged muscle regeneration may be traced in the SCID mice

Filozofia muzyki zawarta w pismach Johanna Gottfrieda Herdera podejmuje dwa zasadnicze wątki osiemnastowiecznej debaty muzyczno-estetycznej: relację muzyki i języka oraz status muzyki instrumentalnej. Umieszczone na mapie zajmowanych w tej debacie stanowisk poglądy Herdera cechują się nie tylko odmiennością proponowanych rozwiązań, ale przede wszystkim zdolnością przekroczenia horyzontu samej debaty, umożliwiającego wyjaśnienie podstaw możliwości oraz zakresu ważności poszczególnych koncepcji. Fundament koncepcji Herdera stanowią trzy elementy: idea językowej prefiguracji znaczeń dla muzyki instrumentalnej, przekonanie o językowym charakterze percepcji zmysłowej oraz wizja opartej na tych dwóch elementach jednolitej hermeneutyki dla sztuk nielingiwstycznych

RATIONALITY OF ACTION AND ITS LIMITATIONS

The article is discusses possible limitations of the rationalistic concept of human action within cultural theory. Here, rationality of human action is construed in terms of decision theory. Two kinds of limitations are considered: (1) resulting from non-rationalistic conceptions of human action; (2) implied by anti individualistic approaches to socio-cultural phenomena, especially structuralist and functionalist ones. Proposed conclusions aim for a reconciliation of rationalistic theory of action and principal premises of cultural materialism.The article is discusses possible limitations of the rationalistic concept of human action within cultural theory.  Criticism as the dynamics of humanistic thoughtThe text is dedicated to the reconstruction of the idea of the philosophical critique of culture. The emphasis is being put on the origins of such criticism in the Greek distinction between doxa and episteme and its developement through the philosophical criticism of the myth. Next comes the problem of the extension of philosophical critique to the very conditions of the possibility of knowl­edge, achieved by Immanuel Kant, and the effects of this extension for the status of reason. The Common Lot: Some Reflections on Poland and Ukraine

Tekst przedstawia krótką próbę określenia historycznego rodowodu dzisiejszej sytuacji polsko-ukraińskiej. Rozważany jest aspekt wspólnej sytuacji geopolitycznej i proponowana pewna interpretacja wspólnych doświadczeń historycznych w skróconej perspektywie historycznej. Podkreślone zostały zwłaszcza wątki powiązane z usytuowaniem Polski i Ukrainy w zmieniającym się kształcie Europy oraz z historią społeczną Europy środkowej i wschodniej. Tekst kończą uwagi o charakterze komentarza, dotyczące sposobów współczesnego radzenia sobie z tym dziedzictwem.The paper offers a short description of the historical lineage of contemporary Polish-Ukrainian relationship. The common geopolitical situation is being deliberated and an interpretation of the common historical experiences is being proposed. A special focus is given to problems connected with the place of Poland and Ukraine within the changing European order, as well as to the issues related to the social history of Middle and Eastern Europe. The paper includes a commentary on the ways in which this common heritage might be dealt with today
