Cilj rada. Cilj ovog rada je procena efekata kombinovane primene repetitivne transkranijalne magnetne stimulacije (rTMS) niske frekvencije (1 Hz) i parcijalne deprivacije spavanja (PDS) kod osoba obolelih od major depresije, koje prethodno pokazuju nezadovoljavajući odgovor na dva različita antidepresiva (ispunjavaju kriterijume terapijske rezistencije). Uporedo sa dugoročnim praćenjem (do 6 meseci) efekata ovog tretmana, analiziran je i genetički BDNF Val66Met polimorfizam, kao mogući perimisivni faktor plasticiteta odgovoran za predikciju efikasnosti primenjenih terapijskih strategija. Ispitanici i metode. Rezultati. The main aim of this study was to evaluate potential synergistic antidepressant effect of two therapies: repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) applied at 1 Hz associated with partial sleep deprivation (PSD) in patients with treatment resistant major depression. Besides the long- term (during the next 6 months) evaluation of effecacy of this treatment, potential predictive role of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) Val66Met genetic polymorphism in rTMS treatment response was analysed, as a factor of neuronal plasticity, also involved in patogenesis of major depression Subjects and methods Twenty patients with diagnoses of treatment resistant major depression, at fixed doses of antidepressants, were treated with combination of rTMS and PSD. rTMS was applied during two consecutive weeks (5 days/week) with frequency of 1Hz, at 110% intensity of resting motor threshold, over the right dorso-lateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC), in the morrning hours. Partial sleep deprivation was applied once during every week, as late partial sleep deprivation (patients were woke up at 01.30 a.m.). Patients were randomly assigned to receive rTMS+PSD, or sham+PSD. Clinical evaluation was done using the following rating scales: the modified Hamilton depression rating scale (HDRS-24), Montgomery-Asberg rating scale (MADRS ) and Clinical global impression scale (CGI-S), at baseline, after 2 weeks of treatment and one week after treatment, as well as long-term follow-up (only patients treated with active rTMS). Results. Study results suggest clinically relevant response, lasted up to 6 months in patients with unipolar major depression at fixed doses of antidepressants. After 2 weeks of treatment, patients treated with active rTMS had the average improvement of 39% score reduction on HDRS..

Blackberry wine is produced by a yeast fermentation of natural saccharides present in blackberry juice. This wine is traditionally consumed in Balkans, mostly as a dessert wine, but in recent years it is gaining more attention due to unique flavour and potential health benefits. Blackberries are a natural source of many minerals and bioactive phytochemicals such as vitamins, folic acid, anthocyanins, and phenolics1,2. Considering biological potential of blackberries and their products aim of this study was to evaluate quality of Serbian blackberry wines. This quality assessment was achieved through determination of: (a) the phenolic profile by high-performance thin layer chromatography (HPTLC); (b) total phenolic (TPC) and anthocyanin content (TAC); (c) in vitro antioxidant activity by DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging assays and total antioxidant capacity (d) in vitro antimicrobial activity by the agar diffusion test; and (e) the content of macro, micro and toxic elements by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). Twelve blackberry wines from different geographical regions were tested indicating various phenolic profiles and great antioxidant and antimicrobial activity. Strong positive correlation was confirmed between TPC and antioxidant activity determined by DPPH and ABTS assays. Additionally, high levels of antibacterial activity were shown against all six tested strains, but primarily against Staphylococcus aureus and Micrococcus lysodeikticus. Samples were rich in macroelements, such as Ca, K, Mg, Na, P and Zn, and microelements Cu and Fe, while Mn was present in higher concentration only in one sample. Toxic metals Cd and Pb were present in low concertation in all samples. These results indicate great quality of Serbian blackberry wines concerning minerals, phenolics, antioxidant and antimicrobial activity, which support its health potential

Poly(vinyl alcohol)/carboxymethyl-chitosan (PVA/CMC) blend hydrogels were synthesized by γ-radiolysis followed by freeze/thawing (FT). Previous, the water-solubility of chitosan (CS) was obtained by γ-radiolytic acidic degradation. CMC molecular weight characterization was performed by a Zetasizer. The fluorescence measurements confirmed the presence of CMC in the PVA/CMC blend hydrogels. In situ preparation of Ag nanoparticles (AgNPs) in PVA/CMC blend hydrogel matrices has been performed exposing hydrogels, swollen in AgNO3 solution, to γ-irradiation. The mathematical models applied for determination swelling kinetics showed that the initial concentrations of CMC and AgNPs directly have influence on the swelling parameters of Ag-PVA/CMC nanocomposites. Diffusion characteristics, determined by different diffusion models (Early Time (ET), Late Time (LT) and Etters (E)) are less due to the presence of AgNPs

Pseudobrookite based nanopowder was obtained by solid state synthesis of starting hematite and anatase nanopowders in the weight ratio 55:45. Structural and morphological properties were analyzed using X-ray diffraction (XRD), BET, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Raman spectroscopy, UV/Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) confirming the formation of nanocrystalline pseudobrookite. The obtained powder was mixed with a binder (ethyl cellulose), dispersant (alpha-terpinol) and adhesion agents (acetic acid and distilled water) to obtain a thick film paste. It was screen printed on alumina substrate with interdigitated PdAg electrodes and fired at 600 degrees C for 30 min. Formation of a porous nanocrystalline thick film structure was shown using Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), while Hall measurements enabled determination of carrier mobility. Change of impedance response in the frequency range 42 Hz-1 MHz with humidity was analyzed at room temperature (25 degrees C) and 50 degrees C in the relative humidity range 30-90% and 40-90%, respectively. At 42 Hz, and room temperature the impedance reduced similar to 28 times, while at 50 degrees C it reduced similar to 147 times in the relative humidity range 40-90%. The sensor showed rapid response (16 s) and relatively low hysteresis (8.39% at 25 degrees C and 2.64% at 50 degrees C) showing that this is a promising material for application in humidity sensing

Biochar produced by pyrolysis of plum and fig pomace at 500 C were characterized and investigated as adsorbents for the removal of heavy metal ions from aqueous solution. Plum and fig pomace are formed after fermentation of this fruit which is used for the preparation of brandy. The brandy industry generates huge amounts of pomace as industrial waste, so pyrolysis as thermochemical technologies was used for organic agro-industrial waste treatment. Plum and fig pomace before and after pyrolysis was characterized using proximate, inorganic and elemental analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential thermal analysis (DTA). Biochar has a carbon matrix with a high degree of porosity and large surface area, suggesting that it can be used as a surface adsorbent and thus have a significant role in controlling environmental contaminants. The surface modification by gamma irradiation was done to enhance the adsorption capacity of biochar. The heavy metals contents in aqueous solution were analyzed using ICP-OES. The adsorption capacity was estimated using the Langmuir and Freundlich model. The results of this work suggest that pyrolysis and irradiation of biomass is a promising way to produce efficient heavy metal sorbents for waste-water treatment.X Međunarodna konferencija o društvenom i tehnološkom razvoju – STED 2021 : Trebinje, 03.- 06. juni 2021

High-performance thin-layer chromatography (HPTLC) combined with image analysis and pattern recognition methods were used for fingerprinting of phenolic compounds present in seedlings of two maize genotypes ZP 434 (new generation hybrid, drought tolerant) and ZP 704 (older generation hybrid, drought sensitive) treated with different concentrations of 24-epibrassinolide. This is the first report of TLC chromatographic profile of phenolics' mixtures in maize seed extracts influenced by brassinosteroid phytohormones. Nine samples of shoot of seedlings for the whole concentration range of phytohormones (5.2 x 10(-7) -5.2 x 10(-15) M), one sample of root of seedlings treated with 5.2 x 10(-15) M 24-epibrassinolide, and the control samples of nontreated seedlings, for both genotypes, were analyzed. Phenolic profiles of root extracts indicate the absence of more polar compounds such as phenolic acids and glycosides present in shoot of seedlings. Also, hormones applied in higher concentrations have an inhibiting effect on the content of phenolics in ZP 434. Application of chemometric methods enables characterization of particular genotype of maize according to its phenolic profile

Charged-particle multiplicities in pp interactions at root s=900 GeV measured with the ATLAS detector at the LHC ATLAS Collaboration

    Get PDF
The first measurements from proton-proton collisions recorded with the ATLAS detector at the LHC are presented. Data were collected in December 2009 using a minimum-bias trigger during collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 900 GeV. The charged-particle multiplicity, its dependence on transverse momentum and pseudorapidity, and the relationship between mean transverse momentum and charged-particle multiplicity are measured for events with at least one charged particle in the kinematic range vertical bar eta vertical bar LT 2.5 and p(T) GT 500 MeV. The measurements are compared to Monte Carlo models of proton-proton collisions and to results from other experiments at the same centre-of-mass energy. The charged-particle multiplicity per event and unit of pseudorapidity eta = 0 is measured to be 1.333 +/- 0.003(stat.) +/- 0.040(syst.), which is 5-15% higher than the Monte Carlo models predict. 2010 Published by Elsevier B.V
