Personnel Training for High-tech Industries: The Experience of MEPhI Base Department âSemiconductor Quantum Electronicsâ
Industry is going through a ubiquitous technological renewal that determines the needed competencies of graduates and the content of educational programs offered by universities. Unfortunately, there is an imbalance between the education received and the entrance requirements for a graduate specialist in industry, in the research and development sector. One of the modern forms of interaction between enterprises and the university in the personnel training is the creation of the base department of the enterprise at the university. The article deals with the educational and scientific activity of the base department of the MEPhI âSemiconductor quantum electronicsâ. The base department trains personnel for high-tech industries with the masterâs and post-graduate educational programs.

Delocalisation transition in quasi-1D models with correlated disorder
We introduce a new approach to analyse the global structure of electronic
states in quasi-1D models in terms of the dynamics of a system of parametric
oscillators with time-dependent stochastic couplings. We thus extend to
quasi-1D models the method previously applied to 1D disordered models. Using
this approach, we show that a ``delocalisation transition'' can occur in
quasi-1D models with weak disorder with long-range correlations.Comment: 33 pages, no figure
Mobility Edge in Aperiodic Kronig-Penney Potentials with Correlated Disorder: Perturbative Approach
It is shown that a non-periodic Kronig-Penney model exhibits mobility edges
if the positions of the scatterers are correlated at long distances. An
analytical expression for the energy-dependent localization length is derived
for weak disorder in terms of the real-space correlators defining the
structural disorder in these systems. We also present an algorithm to construct
a non-periodic but correlated sequence exhibiting desired mobility edges. This
result could be used to construct window filters in electronic, acoustic, or

Local and average fields inside surface-disordered waveguides: Resonances in the one-dimensional Anderson localization regime
We investigate the one-dimensional propagation of waves in the Anderson
localization regime, for a single-mode, surface disordered waveguide. We make
use of both an analytical formulation and rigorous numerical simulation
calculations. The occurrence of anomalously large transmission coefficients for
given realizations and/or frequencies is studied, revealing huge field
intensity concentration inside the disordered waveguide. The analytically
predicted s-like dependence of the average intensity, being in good agreement
with the numerical results for moderately long systems, fails to explain the
intensity distribution observed deep in the localized regime. The average
contribution to the field intensity from the resonances that are above a
threshold transmission coefficient is a broad distribution with a large
maximum at/near mid-waveguide, depending universally (for given ) on the
ratio of the length of the disorder segment to the localization length,
. The same universality is observed in the spatial distribution of the
intensity inside typical (non-resonant with respect to the transmission
coefficient) realizations, presenting a s-like shape similar to that of the
total average intensity for close to 1, which decays faster the lower
is . Evidence is given of the self-averaging nature of the random
quantity . Higher-order moments of the intensity are

Analysis of congenital disorder of glycosylation-Id in a yeast model system shows diverse site-specific under-glycosylation of glycoproteins
Asparagine-linked glycosylation is a common post translational modification of proteins in eukaryotes. Mutations in the human ALG3 gene cause changed levels and altered glycan structures on mature glycoproteins and are the cause of a severe congenital disorder of glycosylation (CDG-Id). Diverse glycoproteins are also under-glycosylated in Saccharomyces cerevisae alg3 mutants. Here we analyzed site-specific glycosylation occupancy in this yeast model system using peptide-N-glycosidase F to label glycosylation sites with an asparagine-aspartate conversion that creates a new endoproteinase AspN cleavage site, followed by proteolytic digestion, and detection of peptides and glycopeptides by LC-ESI-MS/MS. We used this analytical method to identify and measure site specific glycosylation occupancy in alg3 mutant and wild type yeast strains. We found decreased site specific N-glycosylation occupancy in the alg3 knockout strain preferentially at Asn-Xaa-Ser sequences located in secondary structural elements, features previously associated with poor glycosylation efficiency. Furthermore, we identified 26 previously experimentally unverified glycosylation sites. Our results provide insights into the underlying mechanisms of disease in CDG-Id, and our methodology will be useful in site specific glycosylation analysis in many model systems and clinical applications
Tractability in Constraint Satisfaction Problems: A Survey
International audienceEven though the Constraint Satisfaction Problem (CSP) is NP-complete, many tractable classes of CSP instances have been identified. After discussing different forms and uses of tractability, we describe some landmark tractable classes and survey recent theoretical results. Although we concentrate on the classical CSP, we also cover its important extensions to infinite domains and optimisation, as well as #CSP and QCSP
