Discrete Simulation of Behavioural Hybrid Process Calculus

    Get PDF
Hybrid systems combine continuous-time and discrete behaviours. Simulation is one of the tools to obtain insight in dynamical systems behaviour. Simulation results provide information on performance of system and are helpful in detecting potential weaknesses and errors. Moreover, the results are handy in choosing adequate control strategies and parameters. In our contribution we report a work in progress, a technique for simulation of Behavioural Hybrid Process Calculus, an extension of process algebra that is suitable for the modelling and analysis of hybrid systems

Using web 2.0 tools to enhance learning in higher education: A case study in technological education

    Get PDF
Pedagogy with Web 2.0 technologies is shown to facilitate the teaching-learning process through content sharing and idea collaboration. In this paper, we explore the possibility of using social networking tools, to support teaching practice in technological courses. In our study, we utilized i) Facebook Page as a platform to share content, experiences and news of a general engineering course, and ii) blog as a collaborative writing tool to express thoughts and opinions in a common core (general education) course. After our one-semester (three- months) study, we found that Facebook Page is an easy-to- use and familiar tool for students to share and exchange ideas among classmates, peers and public.published_or_final_versio

Monocular line tracking for the reduction of vibration induced during image acquisition

    Get PDF
This article details our research in the use of monocular cameras mounted on moving vehicles such as quadcopter or similar unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV). These cameras are subjected to vibration due to the constant movement experienced by these vehicles and consequently the captured images are often distorted. Our approach uses the Hough transform for line detection but this can be hampered when the surface of the objects to be captured has a high reflection factor. Our approach combines two key algorithms to detect and reduce both glare and vibration induced during image acquisition from a moving object

Design and realization of a smart battery management system

    Get PDF
Battery management system (BMS) emerges a decisive system component in battery-powered applications, such as (hybrid) electric vehicles and portable devices. However, due to the inaccurate parameter estimation of aged battery cells and multi-cell batteries, current BMSs cannot control batteries optimally, and therefore affect the usability of products. In this paper, we proposed a smart management system for multi-cell batteries, and discussed the development of our research study in three directions: i) improving the effectiveness of battery monitoring and current sensing, ii) modeling the battery aging process, and iii) designing a self-healing circuit system to compensate performance variations due to aging and other variations.published_or_final_versio

The ParlaMint corpora of parliamentary proceedings

    Get PDF
This paper presents the ParlaMint corpora containing transcriptions of the sessions of the 17 European national parliaments with half a billion words. The corpora are uniformly encoded, contain rich meta-data about 11 thousand speakers, and are linguistically annotated following the Universal Dependencies formalism and with named entities. Samples of the corpora and conversion scripts are available from the project’s GitHub repository, and the complete corpora are openly available via the CLARIN.SI repository for download, as well as through the NoSketch Engine and KonText concordancers and the Parlameter interface for on-line exploration and analysis

Online Edition: ISSN 0948-6968. Funding Agency Grant Number XJTLU Key Programme Special Fund, AI University Research Centre (AI-URC), Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, China. no. KSF-P-02Accurate information about the actual behavior of electricity users is essential to the electricity suppliers in order to ensure efficient decisions in planning pricing, e.g., designing tariffs and load planning. Load profiles of customers is a straightforward source for such data, however it should be analyzed to extract relevant information. Most of the existing techniques are tested with small data sets or over short periods, which does not allow to investigate seasonality influence. We present a new methodology for the grouping of electricity customers based on the similarities of their (hourly) consumption patterns. Approach is based on the periodicity analysis and well-known clustering technique - K-means, which is applied for identification for separate users load profiles and clustering of load profiles. Values of model parameter are selected using adequacy measures. Finally, the results obtained by this methodology with a data set of 3753 electricity customers are presented, and future plans discussedBaltijos pažangių technologijų institutasBaltijos pažangių technologijų institutas, VilniusTaikomosios informatikos katedraVilniaus universitetasVytauto Didžiojo universiteta
