    Moisture content and gas sampling device

    An apparatus is described for measuring minute quantities of moisture and other contaminants within sealed enclosures such as electronic assemblies which may be subject to large external atmospheric pressure variations. An array of vacuum quality valves is arranged to permit cleansing of the test apparatus of residual atmospheric components from a vacuum source. This purging operation evacuates a gas sample bottle, which is then connected by valve settings to provide the drive for withdrawing a gas sample from the sealed enclosure under test into the sample bottle through a colometric detector tube (Drager tube) which indicates moisture content. The sample bottle may be disconnected and its contents (drawn from the test enclosure) separately subjected to mass spectrograph analysis

    On Hecke theory for Hermitian modular forms

    In this paper we outline the Hecke theory for Hermitian modular forms in the sense of Hel Braun for arbitrary class number of the attached imaginary-quadratic number field. The Hecke algebra turns out to be commutative. Its inert part has a structure analogous to the case of the Siegel modular group and coincides with the tensor product of its pp-components for inert primes pp. This leads to a characterization of the associated Siegel-Eisenstein series. The proof also involves Hecke theory for particular congruence subgroups

    Conservative management of bilateral femoral neck fractures in a child with autosomal dominant osteopetrosis

    Management of minimally displaced femoral neck fractures in paediatric patients with autosomal dominant osteopetrosis (ADO) remains unclear as only small numbers have been reported. There are no detailed reports on successful conservative treatment. Common causes of failure in this particular area include non-union and development of coxa vara. Although there are no quantitative studies, case reports have influenced most authors to recommend operative treatment. It is well recognised that operative treatment of osteopetrotic bone is challenging. Problems arise intraoperatively due to the bone hardness, and postoperatively due to altered biomechanics and defective remodelling. This case of a child with ADO who suffered two asynchronous compression-side stress fractures in the femoral neck demonstrates that non-operative management can be satisfactory. After 8weeks with partial weight-bearing the fractures were stable. At the latest follow-up 2.5 and 4years after the fractures the patient presented with an excellent clinical and radiological outcome. There was no development of coxa var

    Thermodynamic properties of QCD in external magnetic fields

    We consider the effect of strong external electromagnetic fields on thermodynamic observables in QCD, through lattice simulations with 1+1+1 flavors of staggered quarks at physical quark masses. Continuum extrapolated results are presented for the light quark condensates and for their tensor polarizations, as functions of the temperature and the magnetic field. We find the light condensates to undergo inverse magnetic catalysis in the transition region, in a manner that the transition temperature decreases with growing magnetic field. We also compare the results to other approaches and lattice simulations. Furthermore, we relate the tensor polarization to the spin part of the magnetic susceptibility of the QCD vacuum, and show that this contribution is diamagnetic.Comment: 13 pages, 9 figures, talks presented by FB and GE at Xth Quark Confinement and the Hadron Spectrum, 8-12 October 2012, TUM Campus Garching, Munich, German
