Strategies for distributing goals in a team of cooperative agents
This paper addresses the problem of distributing goals to individual agents inside a team of cooperative agents. It shows that several parameters determine the goals of particular agents. The first parameter is the set of goals allocated to the team; the second parameter is the description of the real actual world; the third parameter is the description of the agents' ability and commitments. The last parameter is the strategy the team agrees on: for each precise goal, the team may define several strategies which are orders between agents representing, for instance, their relative competence or their relative cost. This paper also shows how to combine strategies. The method used here assumes an order of priority between strategie
Lower bounds for communication capacities of two-qudit unitary operations
We show that entangling capacities based on the Jamiolkowski isomorphism may
be used to place lower bounds on the communication capacities of arbitrary
bipartite unitaries. Therefore, for these definitions, the relations which have
been previously shown for two-qubit unitaries also hold for arbitrary
dimensions. These results are closely related to the theory of the
entanglement-assisted capacity of channels. We also present more general
methods for producing ensembles for communication from initial states for
entanglement creation.Comment: 9 pages, 2 figures, comments welcom
Black Hole Entropy in the presence of Chern-Simons Terms
We derive a formula for the black hole entropy in theories with gravitational
Chern-Simons terms, by generalizing Wald's argument which uses the Noether
charge. It correctly reproduces the entropy of three-dimensional black holes in
the presence of Chern-Simons term, which was previously obtained via indirect
methods.Comment: v2: 12 pages, added reference
Quantum memory for non-stationary light fields based on controlled reversible inhomogeneous broadening
We propose a new method for efficient storage and recall of non-stationary
light fields, e.g. single photon time-bin qubits, in optically dense atomic
ensembles. Our approach to quantum memory is based on controlled, reversible,
inhomogeneous broadening. We briefly discuss experimental realizations of our
proposal.Comment: 4 page
Knowledge- and innovation-based business models for future growth : digitalized business models and portfolio considerations.
Today’s key challenge for firm growth relies in the integration of digital technologies and their use in new business models. Thus, firms increasingly engage in a digital transformation and in digitalizing their business model. Firms can apply digital technologies for improved or novel internal and external processes and integrate them in new business models. The digital transformation itself demands diverse knowledge from diverse origins in the firm. We examine the key concepts related to business model digitalization. We develop a conceptual matrix for portfolio considerations of firm business model digitalization. We introduce the seven contributions in this special issue on knowledge and innovation related to business and offer some recommendations for future research on the new working conditions and digital identities of firms
Entanglement and nonclassical properties of hypergraph states
Hypergraph states are multi-qubit states that form a subset of the locally
maximally entangleable states and a generalization of the well--established
notion of graph states. Mathematically, they can conveniently be described by a
hypergraph that indicates a possible generation procedure of these states;
alternatively, they can also be phrased in terms of a non-local stabilizer
formalism. In this paper, we explore the entanglement properties and
nonclassical features of hypergraph states. First, we identify the equivalence
classes under local unitary transformations for up to four qubits, as well as
important classes of five- and six-qubit states, and determine various
entanglement properties of these classes. Second, we present general conditions
under which the local unitary equivalence of hypergraph states can simply be
decided by considering a finite set of transformations with a clear
graph-theoretical interpretation. Finally, we consider the question whether
hypergraph states and their correlations can be used to reveal contradictions
with classical hidden variable theories. We demonstrate that various
noncontextuality inequalities and Bell inequalities can be derived for
hypergraph states.Comment: 29 pages, 5 figures, final versio
Apparent stress-strain relationships in experimental equipment where magnetorheological fluids operate under compression mode
Abstract: This paper presents an experimental investigation of two different magnetorheological ( MR) fluids, namely, water-based and hydrocarbon-based MR fluids in compression mode under various applied currents. Finite element method magnetics was used to predict the magnetic field distribution inside the MR fluids generated by a coil. A test rig was constructed where the MR fluid was sandwiched between two flat surfaces. During the compression, the upper surface was moved towards the lower surface in a vertical direction. Stress-strain relationships were obtained for arrangements of equipment where each type of fluid was involved, using compression test equipment. The apparent compressive stress was found to be increased with the increase in magnetic field strength. In addition, the apparent compressive stress of the water-based MR fluid showed a response to the compressive strain of greater magnitude. However, during the compression process, the hydrocarbon-based MR fluid appeared to show a unique behaviour where an abrupt pressure drop was discovered in a region where the apparent compressive stress would be expected to increase steadily. The conclusion is drawn that the apparent compressive stress of MR fluids is influenced strongly by the nature of the carrier fluid and by the magnitude of the applied current
