Antonio Ponz se interesó por la cuestión religiosa durante su visita a Inglaterra en 1783. No se tomó en serio la libertad de cultos ya que las leyes inglesas discriminaban a los católicos. No supo entender las razones de esa antipatía popular hacia una minoría que no resultaba peligrosa. Algunos de sus comentarios y opiniones sobre las imágenes de las iglesias hacen pensar que no estaba preparado para entender el catolicismo inglés.Antonio Ponz became interested in the religious question during his visit to England in 1783. The author goes back to the reign of Henry VIII to explain the introduction of Protestant heresy in his country, but most of his commentaries refer to the reign of James I. He includes some curious observations about the situation of Scotland and Ireland at that time, not to mention the relationship between England and Spain
