Micro-Heterogeneity and Aggregate Productivity Development in the German Manufacturing Sector - Results from a Decomposition Exercise

In this paper different formulae for the decomposition of aggregate productivity levels and changes are applied to a sample of German manufacturing firms that pertain to 11 different industries at a roughly two-digit level observed over the period 1981-1998. Productivity is measured by a nonparametric frontier function approach. The decompositions of productivity allow for an explanation of the aggregate outcomes by the quantification of the effect of structural change as well as the contributions from entering and exiting firms. Our results show that these forces drive aggregate productivity dynamics to a considerable extent. Product Quality, Product Price, and Share Dynamics in the German Compact Car Market

The present paper examines one of the central elements of evolutionary thinking - competition formalized by the replicator dynamics mechanism. Using data on product characteristics of automobiles sold on the German domestic market over the period 2001-2006, we construct a competitiveness or fitness variable for each car model applying non-parametric efficiency measurement techniques. The basic question we intend to answer is whether cars providing a higher quality-price ratio for consumers tend to increase their market share compared to variants with lower quality-price ratios. The relationship between a car models' fitness and its market performance is empirically tested in a regression framework. The results show that the principle of `growth of the fitter' is working as suggested by evolutionary theory. In particular, we find that car models with considerably lower fitness than the market average lose, whereas models with above-average fitness gain additional market shares.Replicator Dynamics, Product Characteristics, Data Envelopment Analysis

Mobility Hubs: A Way Out of Car Dependency Through a New Multifunctional Housing Development?

Today’s urban design of new quarters in the fringes of German metropolises shows a renaissance of the garage building as a cluster for car parking. In contrast to the past, parking garages are planned as multifunctional “mobility hubs.” Planners enrich them with new mobility and sharing options and incorporate sports or social infrastructure facilities on the roof and the ground floor, thus contributing to vibrant neighborhoods. In contrast to the internationally renowned example of Nordhavn (Copenhagen), we observe a decentralization in the mainstreaming of the approach: Mobility hubs are to become constitutive parts of small subcenters. In this respect, they can be seen as a common leitmotiv for urban design in Germany’s metropolises. The hubs form a new model of local mobility, guaranteeing a certain flow of pedestrians and freeing the adjacent streets of car traffic. Integrated into a system of alternative modes of transportation and nearby mass transit, those infrastructural and mobility clusters might contribute to a change in mobility habits and ultimately reduce car dependence. If their underlying mobility policies can be implemented and if they are ultimately more successful than traditional parking garages or even create an incentive not to use private cars at all remains open to further investigation. For this purpose, the article will trace the emergence of mobility hubs in the discourse and practice of urban design with a particular focus on major new developments at the periphery of German cities. Fehlervermeidung und Prozessmonitoring in komplexen und dynamischen Großschadenslagen

In dieser Arbeit wird der Frage nachgegangen, inwieweit eine Computerunterstützung in komplexen, kritischen Arbeitsbereichen zu einer Harmonisierung der Handlungsabläufe und zur Verhinderung von Fehlern (z. B. Gedächtnisfehlern) beitragen kann. Als Beispiel eines komplexen und dynamischen Arbeitsbereiches wird das Agieren von Behörden und Organisationen mit Sicherheitsaufgaben (BOS) in Großschadenslagen betrachtet. Motiviert durch den großen Erfolg von Checklisten in der Luftfahrt und in der Intensivmedizin, wird in dieser Arbeit eine systematische Übertragung des Checklisten-Prinzips auf den deutschen BOS-Bereich vorgeschlagen. Hierfür wird ein Rahmenwerk eines intelligenten elektronischen Checklisten-Assistenzsystems erarbeitet, das auch für alternative, soziotechnische Arbeitssysteme mit dem BOS-Bereich ähnlichen Merkmalen hilfreich zur Fehlervermeidung eingesetzt werden kann

Enchondrome des Handskeletts – Therapeutisches Vorgehen, funktionelles Langzeitergebnis und Nachsorgeempfehlungen

147 Patienten mit 183 histologisch gesicherten Enchondromen des Handskeletts wurden retrospektiv nach Krankenakten und Röntgenbildern analysiert. 120 Patienten (81,6%) wurden Ø 6,7 Jahre nach Operation nachuntersucht. Je zweimal lag ein Maffucci-Syndrom bzw. ein Morbus Ollier vor. Häufigste Manifestationen waren Schmerzen und/oder Schwellung (51,7%) oder die pathologische Fraktur (25%). Standardisiert erfolgte die Exstirpation und autologe Spongiosaplastik. Es traten 11 Rezidive (7,5%) nach Ø 4,4 Jahren auf. Ein niedrigmalignes Chondrosarkom wurde in 2 Fällen diagnostiziert. 84,2% der Patienten erzielten ein sehr gutes oder gutes funktionelles Outcome. Zur Diagnosesicherung und Komplikationsprophylaxe sollte bis auf sehr kleine Läsionen und bei Kindern stets die Tumorexstirpation erfolgen. Wir sehen weiterhin die autologe Spongiosaplastik als Goldstandard, für die Nichtauffüllung bzw. künstliche Knochenersatzmaterialien sind allerdings ähnlich gute Ergebnisse publiziert worden

Dieser Band ist im Nachgang der 2. Jahrestagung des Netzwerks Kritische Kommunikationswissenschaft entstanden, die unter dem Titel 'Ideologien & Ideologiekritik' vom 29. November bis 1. Dezember 2018 an der Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München stattfand

Die Neoklassische Ökonomik und der Romantische Konsumismus: Ideologische Bremsklötze einer 'Großen Transformation' zur Nachhaltigkeit

Ausgehend von der Forderung einer 'Großen Transformation' der Weltgesellschaft hin zu einer nachhaltigen Lebens- und Wirtschaftsweise wird hier gefragt, mit welchen mentalen Infrastrukturen und Ideologien die Transformationsresistenz insbesondere westlich-kapitalistischer Gesellschaften erklärt werden kann. Wir schlagen das neoklassische Paradigma der Wirtschaftswissenschaft ('Lehrbuchökonomie') vor, das auf der Produktionsseite für Nachhaltigkeitsfragen blind macht, und den Romantischen Konsumismus, der Konsumptionssteigerungen in der breiten Bevölkerung begünstigt. Beide Überzeugungssysteme werden beschrieben und kritisiert, anschließend werden diesbezügliche Aufgaben einer transformativen Kommunikationswissenschaft skizziert
