    Place Marketing in Hungary: The Case of Debrecen

    After the political transformations in East-Central Europe local authorities were forced to realise that they have to employ more active policy, and consequently, the use of place marketing became more popular. The study examines one particular city in Hungary, Debrecen, and concentrates on two areas. First, it presents what methods were employed in an attempt to attract economic players and tourists, and to increase the satisfaction of existing target groups. Secondly, it evaluates the steps taken: how characteristic were the tools used in Debrecen in other Hungarian cities, and what positive and negative features of marketing activity can be identified

    Actor training as a method of directors: Training in context of the Odin Teatret’s creative work and higher education

    My paper examines the connection between actor training, the creative process, and institutional education using the findings of my PhD research. Using the theories of Watson, Féral, and Camilleri, I address conceptual clarifications of the term "training" in the first section of my study. I make a distinction between the definitions of the term training. Following that, I refer to training as constant practice. Through the history of Odin Teatret, one of the theater companies with the longest histories, I illustrate the connection between their training and performances and explore the degree to which one has defined the other throughout the company's history. I refer to writings by Barba, the Odin actors, and theorists who have talked about the company. As a working method, I examine the director's position in the training framework to address the issue of control over the actor training process. I'll discuss institutional education for actor training in my final paragraph. I'll make the argument that subject-level structured teaching of actor training should be just as crucial to the education of directors in Eastern Europe as it is to the training of actors

    Geographical aspects of the changes of Hungary’s deconcentrated state administration system between 1990 and 2012

    One of the most important segments of the post–1990 transformation of territory-based administration in Hungary was the changing of the geographical structure of deconcentrated state administrative organisations. The study, on the one hand, provides a brief overview of the history of deconcentrated state administrative organisations in Hungary, and discusses the regional characteristics of the organisational transformations after the political changes, taking six moments in time (the middle of 1994, 1998, 2002, 2006, 2010 and 2012 respectively) as the basis. On the other hand, using the same six snapshots in time, it examines which settlements experienced favourable or unfavourable changes, and what factors influenced the selection of the seats for these institutions. The results of the survey indicated that the alignment of territorial structure of deconcentrated state administrative organizations to the planning-statistical, NUTS 2 regions has already begun at the end of the 1990s. The government formed in 2006 took significant steps in the area of aligning the spatial structure of the organizations with the planning-statistical regions; however, in the period after 2010 the significance of the county level increased again. In the period examined, no significant changes took place at the top and at the bottom of the list according to the number of seats: the largest settlements of the individual regions reinforced their leading positions

    TMFoldWeb: a web server for predicting transmembrane protein fold class.

    BACKGROUND: Here we present TMFoldWeb, the web server implementation of TMFoldRec, a transmembrane protein fold recognition algorithm. TMFoldRec uses statistical potentials and utilizes topology filtering and a gapless threading algorithm. It ranks template structures and selects the most likely candidates and estimates the reliability of the obtained lowest energy model. The statistical potential was developed in a maximum likelihood framework on a representative set of the PDBTM database. According to the benchmark test the performance of TMFoldRec is about 77 % in correctly predicting fold class for a given transmembrane protein sequence. RESULTS: An intuitive web interface has been developed for the recently published TMFoldRec algorithm. The query sequence goes through a pipeline of topology prediction and a systematic sequence to structure alignment (threading). Resulting templates are ordered by energy and reliability values and are colored according to their significance level. Besides the graphical interface, a programmatic access is available as well, via a direct interface for developers or for submitting genome-wide data sets. CONCLUSIONS: The TMFoldWeb web server is unique and currently the only web server that is able to predict the fold class of transmembrane proteins while assigning reliability scores for the prediction. This method is prepared for genome-wide analysis with its easy-to-use interface, informative result page and programmatic access. Considering the info-communication evolution in the last few years, the developed web server, as well as the molecule viewer, is responsive and fully compatible with the prevalent tablets and mobile devices.
