Static Buckling of FML Columns in Elastic-Plastic Range.

    Get PDF
The paper deals with the elasto-plastic buckling of thin-walled Fiber Metal Laminates short columns/profiles subjected to axial uniform compression. Structures of open and hollow (closed) cross-sections are considered build of at plate walls. Multilayered FML walls are considered as built of alternating layers of aluminum and fiber-glass composite. Three elastic-plastic theories are employed for constitutive relations description of aluminum layers i.e. fully elastic material behavior, the J2-deformation theory of plasticity and the J2 flow theory later both with Ramberg-Osgood formula application, whereas composite layers are assumed elastic within whole loading range. Some exemplary results determined with the application of own analytical-numerical method based on the Koiter's theory, in the Byskov and Hutchinson formulation are enclosed in the form of tables and plots

Static and Dynamic Thermomechanical Buckling Loads of Functionally Graded Plates.

In the paper the buckling phenomenon for static and dynamic loading (pulse of finite duration) of FGM plates subjected to simultaneous action of one directional compression and thermal field is presented. Thin, rectangular plates simply supported along all edges are considered. The investigations are conducted for different values of volume fraction exponent and uniform temperature rise in conjunction with mechanical dynamic pulse loading of finite duration

Inuence of Foam Filling on Dynamic Response of Hemispherical Shell Subjected to Blast Pressure.

    Get PDF
The paper aims to investigate the effect of aluminium foam filling of hemispherical steel shell on its dynamic response, accounting for the blast pressure modelling. The considered structures subjected to uniformly distributed pressure, rigidly connected with a steel plate, are considered. True material stress鈥搒train curves for shell and foam filling are assumed in calculations. The problem is solved by FEM using ANSYS software. The time relations of strain energy and effective stresses for different simulations of blast pressure are determined and compared for steel shells and shells filled with aluminum foam

In the paper the influence of following factors: initial imperfections, shape and duration of pulse loading on the dynamic response of plate structures is presented. The effect of material properties in the plastic range and the estimation of structure capacity to sustain dynamic pulse loadings based on different dynamic stability criteria is discussed as well

Global and local instability of thin-walled columns beyond the proportional limit

    Get PDF
The problem of global and local stability in the inelastic range for thin-walled columns is examined on the basis of the defonnation theory and the incremental theory of plasticity. Columns of closed and open cross-sections built from rectangular isotropic plates are subjected to the loading changing from unifonn compression to pure bending. A solution of elastic buckling for a thin-walled orthotropic columns based on Koiter's asymptotic method is employed to investigate the elasto-plastic buckling mode of the colunm and to detennine the critical load. The study is based on the numerical method of the transition matrix. The results of numerical calculations are presented in diagram

The paper concerns theoretical, numerical and experimental analysis of the stability and ultimate load of multi-cell thin-walled columns of rectangular and square cross-sections subjected to axial compression (uniform shortening of the column). The theoretical analysis deals with the local and global stability of multi-cell orthotropic columns of a rectangular profile with rectangular cells. It has been shown that for a multi-cell column made of the same material and having the same cross-section area, the value of local buckling stress of the column walls grows rapidly with an increase of the cell number. The experiment conducted for isotropic columns has also proved a significant growth of the ultimate load with the increase of the cell number. The paper gives some conclusions which can be useful in design of thin-walled box columns.Praca po艣wi臋cona jest teoretycznej, numerycznej i do艣wiadczalnej analizie stateczno艣ci i no艣no艣ci granicznej wielokomorowych cienko艣ciennych s艂up贸w o prostok膮tnych i kwadratowych przekrojach poprzecznych poddanych osiowemu 艣ciskaniu (odpowiadaj膮cemu r贸wnomiernemu skr贸ceniu s艂upa). Rozwa偶ania teoretyczne dotycz膮 lokalnej i globalnej utraty stateczno艣ci wielokomorowych ortotropowych s艂up贸w o obrysie prostok膮tnym, z prostok膮tnymi komorami. Wykazano, 偶e dla wielokomorowego s艂upa wykonanego z tego samego materia艂u i o takim samym polu przekroju poprzecznego warto艣ci lokalnego napr臋偶enia krytycznego 艣cian s艂upa wzrastaj膮 gwa艂townie wraz ze wzrostem liczby kom贸r. Do艣wiadczenia przeprowadzone dla izotropowych s艂up贸w potwierdzi艂y wzrost zar贸wno napr臋偶e艅 krytycznych, jak i no艣no艣ci badanych modeli wraz ze wzrostem kom贸r. W pracy podano pewne wnioski, kt贸re mog膮 by膰 przydatne przy projektowaniu cienko艣ciennych s艂up贸w o przekrojach skrzynkowych
