    Development of an inquiry-based module with scientific equipment to facilitate primary school students learning the force concept

    Recently, science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) applications have become more demanding, promoting students' interest in science from an early age. Science class in primary school needs more attention to attract students’ interest. This study aims to develop an inquiry- based module with scientific equipment for the primary school level to optimize science learning at the primary school level. The development process used a 4-D (define, design, develop and   disseminate) model. The developed module and   equipment cover the topics of forces and include four experiments, i.e., exploring friction in inclined planes, exploring the mechanical advantage of a pulley, observing magnetic force   and exploring static equilibrium in a lever. The modules and   scientific equipment are distributed to some schools in Indonesia that lack practical work facilities. The inquiry-based modules and scientific equipment are implemented in classes at four primary schools in Indonesia. In this study, the students' response to the implementation of inquiry-based modules and scientific equipment in the class is also investigated. Overall, the average of the   students' responses is 3.37 (out of 4.00). It means students respond positively to the learning activity and the supporting module. Active learning with an inquiry approach is feasible to attract students' interest in science

    DEVELOPMENT OF STUDENTS’ WORKSHEETS BASED ON GUIDED INQUIRY MODELS TO TRAIN SCIENCE PROCESS SKILLS AND CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS IN PROJECTILE MOTION

    In facing AEC (ASEAN Economic Community) which has impacted education, the young generation of a nation must have higher-order thinking skills. One of the ways to achieve that purpose is through practicing science process and critical thinking skills since they start education early. To exercise those skills in our students, we need to develop supporting learning materials. In this study, we develop learning materials on the topics of projectile motion based on Guided Inquiry Model through developmental research within ADDIE. The learning materials are validated by two validators before tested to 19 students of X MIPA 2 at St. Hendrikus Senior High School. The results of the validation process indicate that the developed lesson plan is, the developed student’s worksheet, and evaluation/assessment plan are very valid with score of 3.76, 3.67, and 3.61 (out of 4) , respectively. The field test indicates that the lesson plan is implemented quite well. According to the pre- and posttest results, students’ critical thinking skills improve, which is indicated by average N-gain score of 0.39. Descriptively it also can be observed that the students’ science process skills develop throughout the implementation process. Besides, according to the questioner answers, students give positive responses to the learning materials and their implementation. In conclusion, the evaluation shows that the students achieve good critical thinking and science process skills. The developed learning materials support learning activities which involve practicing in critical thinking skills and science process skills

    THE DEVELOPMENT OF ADOBE FLASH MEDIA ASSISTED LEARNING INSTRUMENT TO TRAIN STUDENT’S PROCESS SCIENCE SKILL

    This study aims to describe the development of feasible Adobe Flash-based learning media with optical instrument materials to train students' processing science skills. This is a developmental research with a 4D model and on the subjects of this research were Grade X students in Kartika Wijaya Surabaya Senior High School academic year 2016/2017 with a developmental testing using one group pretest-posttest design. The data obtained were quantitatively and qualitatively analyzed. The results of the analysis showed that learning media with supporting tools in the form of the syllabus, lesson plan, worksheet, and process science skills assessment were feasible to be used. Learning media along with supporting tools that have been developed for a jigsaw-type cooperative learning model can train the students’ process science skills. The students' process science skills were improved with the average N-gain score of 0.74 in the first replication and 0.88 in the second replication, they were categorized as a high category. The conclusion of this research was that Adobe Flash-based Physics learning media with materials of optical instrument could be used in the learning process and to train students’ process science skill

    This research employs a developmental research design with 4D model and tested on grade X senior high school students with one group as the subjects for the pretest and posttest. Learning media and supporting tools in this research, developed as a jigsaw-type cooperative learning model, were expected to be able to train students' critical thinking skills. The students' critical thinking skills improved as represented by the average N-gain score of 0.83 for replication I and 0.88 for replication II, and it was categorized as a high category. This research concluded that Adobe Flash-based physics learning media with the topic of "optical instrument" can be used to train students' critical thinking skill

    PENGEMBANGAN MEDIA PEMBELAJARAN SAINS TERHADAP PERKEMBANGAN KOGNITIF ANAK USIA 5-6 TAHUN

    This study aims to create and develop science learning media that can be used to stimulate aspects of cognitive development of children aged 5-6 years to help educators to convey material so that children also more easily understand the material presented by educators. The research was carried out on children aged 5-6 years in the even semester of the 2021/2022 academic year. Learning media is made in the form of Children's Worksheets (LKA), in which there are various science experiment activities for children aged 5-6 years. The type of research used is research and development (R and D), the research model used is the ADDIE research model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) which was adapted from Branch. The data collection techniques used were observation and questionnaires to determine the development of early childhood science learning media. Data analysis used effectiveness data analysis to determine the effectiveness of using science learning worksheets as stimulation of cognitive development aspects. The results of the effectiveness of using the development of science learning worksheets in 12 children obtained an average score of 87%. The score results are included in the "very good" category. Based on the results of the effectiveness of using the LKA for science learning, the provision of LKA for science learning is effective in stimulating the cognitive development of children aged 5-6 years.PPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk membuat dan mengembangkan media pembelajaran sains yang dapat digunakan untuk menstimulasi aspek perkembangan kognitif anak usia 5-6 tahun sehingga membantu pendidik untuk menyampaikan materi agar anak juga lebih mudah memahami materi yang disampaikan oleh pendidik. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada anak usia 5-6 tahun di semester genap tahun ajaran 2021/2022. Media pembelajaran dibuat dalam bentuk Lembar Kerja Anak (LKA), dimana didalamnya terdapat berbagai kegiatan eksperimen sains untuk anak usia 5-6 tahun. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah research and development (R and D), model penelitian yang digunakan yaitu model penelitian ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) yang diadaptasi dari Branch. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan yaitu pengamatan (observasi) dan pemberian angket (kuesioner) untuk mengetahui pengembangan media pembelajaran sains anak usia dini. Analisis data menggunakan analisis data keefektifan  untuk mengetahui efektivitas penggunaan LKA pembelajaran sains sebagai stimulasi aspek perkembangankognitif. Hasil efektivitas penggunaan pengembangan LKA pembelajaran sains pada 12 anak memperoleh rata-rata skor 87%. Hasil skor tersebut termasuk dalam kategori “sangat baikâ€. Berdasarkan hasil efektivitas penggunaan LKA pembelajaran sains tersebut, maka pemberian LKA pembelajaran sains efektif untuk menstimulasi perkembangan kognitif anak usia 5-6 tahun

    PELATIHAN PRAKTIKUM FLUIDA STATIS SECARA HANDS ON DALAM MELATIH KETERAMPILAN PROSES SAINS PESERTA DIDIK SMA PASCA COVID-19

    Abstrak: Keterampilan proses sains (KPS) merupakan salah satu aspek penting yang dibutuhkan oleh peserta didik saat ini. Berdasarkan hasil kajian, KPS peserta didik SMP pasca COVID-19 rendah pada beberapa indikator. Oleh sebab itu perlu adanya kegiatan yang dapat melatihkan KPS yaitu dengan memberikan layanan praktikum fluida statis berupa praktikum pipa hare secara hands on yang digunakan untuk melatih KPS peserta didik pasca COVID-19. Metode pengabdian ini yaitu ceramah dan eksperimen dengan 3 tahapan: tahap persiapan, pelaksanaan, dan evaluasi. Peserta dalam pengabdian ini yaitu peserta didik kelas XI SMA Swasta di Surabaya dengan jumlah sebanyak 329 orang. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan adanya antusias peserta didik dalam merangkai alat, mengambil data, menganalisis data, dan membuat kesimpulan. Hal ini yang dapat dilakukan dalam melatih KPS peserta didik dengan melakukan praktikum secara langsung. Selain itu, 91,58% peserta didik menyatakan bahwa pelatihan praktikum pipa hare sangat menarik dan membuat peserta didik mengingat kembali cara untuk melakukan praktikum dan mengambil data yang baik dan benar.Abstract: Science process skills (SPS) are one of the crucial aspects required by students nowadays. Based on the study results, the SPS of junior high school students post COVID-19 are low in several indicators. Therefore, there is a need for activities that can train SPS, which is achieved by providing a hands-on static fluid laboratory service in the form of a “pipa hare” experiment, aimed at enhancing the SPS of students post COVID-19. This engagement method involves lectures and experiments with 3 stages: preparation, execution, and evaluation. The participants in this service were 329 eleventh-grade students from a private high school in Surabaya. The results of the activity indicate the enthusiasm of the students in assembling equipment, collecting data, analyzing data, and drawing conclusions. These activities contribute to training the SPS of students through direct practical experience. Additionally, 91.58% of the students expressed that the hare pipe experiment training was highly engaging and helped them recall the proper procedures for conducting the experiment and collecting accurate data

    Pendampingan Eksperimen Fisika Bagi Siswa-Siswa SMA di Surabaya

    ABSTRAK Fisika adalah ilmu yang sangat erat dengan kehidupan sehari-hari dan menjadi tonggak perkembangan teknologi. Oleh sebab itu, mata pelajaran fisika diberikan pada siswa-siswa Sekolah Menengah Atas (SMA). Pembelajaran Fisika harusnya menekankan pada pengalaman langsung untuk mengembangkan kompetensi agar siswa mampu memahami fenomena alam. Hal ini akan membantu siswa untuk memperoleh pemahaman yang lebih mendalam. Akan tetapi, banyak sekolah-sekolah di Indonesia tidak memiliki peralatan yang cukup memadai untuk menunjang pembelajaran eksperimen, termasuk beberapa SMA di daerah Surabaya dan sekitarnya. Program Studi Pendidikan Fisika sebagai institusi yang mencetak calon guru-guru fisika perlu memberikan andil dalam mengatasi keterbatasan yang dimiliki oleh SMA-SMA di Surabaya dan sekitarnya. Program Studi Pendidikan Fisika memiliki peralatan dan sumber daya manusia yang cukup memadahi sehingga memungkinkan untuk mengadakan program pengabdian masyarakat berupa Pendampingan Eksperimen Fisika untuk Siswa-Siswa SMA. Program ini telah terlaksana sejak September 2018 hingga April 2019 melibatkan 14 sekolah mitra dengan jumlah siswa yang berpartisipasi sebanyak 1259 siswa. Kegiatan ini mendapatkan respon yang baik dari pihak sekolah, guru fisika, dan para siswa. Melalui kegiatan ini, keterbatasan peralatan eksperimen di sekolah cukup teratasi. Para siswa juga antusias sebab dengan kegiatan eksperimen pembelajaran fisika menjadi lebih menarik.Kata Kunci: eksperimen fisika; pengabdian kepada masyarakat; sekolah menengah atas.ABSTRACT Physics is closely related to our daily life and becomes a fundamental subject for technology development. That is why physics is given to high school students. The physics learning process should emphasize direct experience to guide students in understanding phenomena in nature. The direct experiment will stimulate students to develop their in-depth knowledge.   However, most schools in Indonesia, including in Surabaya, do not have adequate experiment apparatus to support that physics learning activity with experiments.  Department of Physics Education, as an institute that educates pre-service physics teachers, should contribute to solving the limitation of some senior high schools in Surabaya. Department of  Physics Education in Widya Mandala Catholic University has sufficient experiment facilities and human resources to conduct a community service program in the form of Physics Experiment Assistance for High School Students. The program has been conducted from September 2018 until April 2019. There are 14 schools attendinng this program, with 1259 students involved. This program gains positive responses from school principals, physics teachers, and students. Through this program, the limitation of several high schools in providing experiment facilities can be partially solved. Students who involve in this program are enthusiastic because, through experiments, physics learning activity becomes more interesting.     Pengembangan media pembelajaran berbasis komputer yang interaktif dan mandiri pada pokok bahasan kinematika gerak lurus

    Kinematika gerak lurus (KGL) merupakan bagian dari mekanika yang mengkaji pergerakan benda di lintasan yang berupa garis lurus. Secara umum, KGL bukanlah suatu materi yang sulit. Hanya saja banyak guru yang menghadapkan siswa langsung pada rumus sehingga KGL menjadi tidak menarik, bahkan siswa menjadi kehilangan motivasi belajar. Oleh karena itu perlu dikembangkan media pembelajaran sedemikian rupa sehingga siswa tidak menyadari bahwa mereka telah diarahkan kepada rumus-rumus. Penelitian ini bertujuan membuat media pembelajaran berbasis komputer yang memuat animasi, video, dan simulasi yang dapat mendeskripsikan kajian Kinematika Gerak Lurus dengan menggunakan program adobe flash. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode penelitian pengembangan media pembelajaran berbasis komputer. Pembuatan media dilakukan di Prodi Pendidikan Fisika dengan sasaran pengguna siswa SMA. Penelitian ini diujicobakan pada 15 responden mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan Fisika Universitas Katolik Widya Mandala Surabaya sebagai bagian dari uji terbatas. Hasil uji coba menunjukan bahwa 40% responden menyatakan bahwa media ini sangat baik, dan 60% menyatakan bahwa media ini baik. Sedangkan 28 responden siswa SMAK St Agnes Surabaya sebagai bagian dari uji lapangan memberikan hasil 12 orang xvi (42.86%) pada kategori media pembelajaran sangat baik, 16 orang (57.14%) menyatakan media ini baik. Secara umum, media pembelajaran yang dibuat menarik, dapat sebagai media pembelajaran mandiri dan dapat mempermudah pemahaman pada pokok bahasan kinematika gerak lurus.
