    Handgun Accuracy Problem

    Get PDF
A laboratory test, aimed to check the compliance of the model with demand, indicates that consecutive fires of about 10 centers around a circular region with a radius of 10cm. The fact that the fires, though performed at the same conditions, do not target at the same point is called focusing uncertainty of the handgun. Furthermore, it is observed, that bullet velocity measured 10 meters from gun varies up to about 7m/s (around 340m/s) among the firing set of 10. There are about ten different models and each model seems to display a different magnitude of uncertainty and velocity deviation from the expected average. The company, being willing to produce more data at request, asks to see if the focusing uncertainty and variation in bullet velocities can somehow be correlated. And with some help from other disciplines, the fact behind such uncertainties? Experiment apparatus or manufacturing process. If latter, which manufacturing unit contributes more

Simplified formulations for the determination of rotational spring constants in rigid spread footings resting on tensionless soil

    Get PDF
In spread footings, the rotational spring constants, which represent the soil-structure interaction, play an important role in the structural analysis and design. To assign the behaviour of soil, which is generally represented via Winkler-type tensionless springs, necessitates time consuming iterative computing procedures in practice. In this study, a straightforward approach is proposed for the soil-structure interaction of rigid spread footings especially subjected to excessive eccentric loading. By considering the uplift of footing, the rotational spring constants of those type footings under axial load and biaxial bending are easily attained through the proposed simplified formulations. Since these formulations enable manual calculation, iterative computer efforts are not required. The formulations under consideration can be applicable to symmetric and non-symmetric rigid spread footings. The numerical results of this study are verified with SAP2000

Thesis (S.M.)--Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, 2011.Cataloged from PDF version of thesis.Includes bibliographical references (p. 75-81).From naval operations to ocean science missions, the importance of autonomous vehicles is increasing with the advances in underwater robotics technology. Due to the dynamic and intermittent underwater environment and the physical limitations of autonomous underwater vehicles, feasible and optimal path planning is crucial for autonomous underwater operations. The objective of this thesis is to develop and demonstrate an efficient underwater path planning algorithm based on the level set method. Specifically, the goal is to compute the paths of autonomous vehicles which minimize travel time in the presence of ocean currents. The approach is to either utilize or avoid any type of ocean flows, while allowing for currents that are much larger than the nominal vehicle speed and for three-dimensional currents which vary with time. Existing path planning methods for the fields of ocean science and robotics are first reviewed, and the advantages and disadvantages of each are discussed. The underpinnings of the level set and fast marching methods are then reviewed, including their new extension and application to underwater path planning. Finally, a new feasible and optimal time-dependent underwater path planning algorithm is derived and presented. In order to demonstrate the capabilities of the algorithm, a set of idealized test-cases of increasing complexity are first presented and discussed. A real three-dimensional path planning example, involving strong current conditions, is also illustrated. This example utilizes four-dimensional ocean flows from a realistic ocean prediction system which simulate the ocean response to the passage of a tropical storm in the Middle Atlantic Bight region.by Konuralp Yiğit.S.M

Cataloged from PDF version of article.Thesis (Ph.D.): Bilkent University, Department of Law, İhsan Doğramacı Bilkent University, 2018.Includes bibliographical references (leaves 257-275).This study examines the legal basis, scope and consequences of the civil liability of arbitrators, who constitute one of the essential elements of arbitration, which is a frequent dispute resolution method. For this purpose, the legal basis of the relationship between the arbitrators and the parties to the dispute is first examined. Later on, the legal nature of the arbitration agreement, which constitutes the basis of the contractual relationship, is examined and the rights and obligations of the parties arising from this contract were handled separately. Finally, it is discussed how the arbitrators' civil liability is covered by law and whether these regulations are restrictive. In addition, the civil liability of the arbitrators is compared with the civil liability of the judges and it is asked whether the arbitrators have an immunity from civil liability. The criminal liability of arbitrators is also taken into consideration, as far as it is related with civil liability.by Orhan Emre Konuralp.Ph.D

Soybean (glycine max. (l.) Merrill) vegetative growth performance under chemical and organic manures nutrient management system

Optimization of fertilizers sources and doses occupies pivotal position for triggering crops growth along with reducing a halt to environmental pollution caused by excessive use of mineral fertilizers. This field research was conducted to determine the effect of chemical and organic fertilizers on vital vegetative growth parameters including leaf area index and chlorophyll content of soybean (cv. Nova).Treatments included four different sources of fertilizers manures from sheep and cattle barns, liquid manure from cattle barn, chemical fertilizers and a control treatment was kept for comparison purpose. The chlorophyll contents of plants at different growing stages Beginning bloom (R1) and Beginning seed (R5) were measured using SPAD-502 and CM 1000 chlorophyll meter. The results indicated that physiological growth parameters including leaf area index and chlorophyll content of soybean differed significantly at stage R1 and R5 growth stages under varying fertilization regimes. The chemical fertilizers remained unmatched for recording the maximum physiological growth, while liquid manure from cattle barn performed superiorly by exhibiting the maximum leaf area index and chlorophyll content. It is recommended to use liquid manure from cattle barn for boosting physiological growth of soybean and these research findings also necessitate evaluation of different doses of liquid cattle manure to sort out the best performing dose for soybean production under changing climate

Optimal Perturbation Iteration Method for Solving Fractional Model of Damped Burgers’ Equation

    Get PDF
The newly constructed optimal perturbation iteration procedure with Laplace transform is applied to obtain the new approximate semi-analytical solutions of the fractional type of damped Burgers’ equation. The classical damped Burgers’ equation is remodeled to fractional differential form via the Atangana–Baleanu fractional derivatives described with the help of the Mittag–Leffler function. To display the efficiency of the proposed optimal perturbation iteration technique, an extended example is deeply analyzed. This work was supported in part by the Basque Government, through project IT1207-19

Variational Iteration Method for Volterra Functional Integrodifferential Equations with Vanishing Linear Delays

    Get PDF
Application process of variational iteration method is presented in order to solve the Volterra functional integrodifferential equations which have multi terms and vanishing delays where the delay function θ(t) vanishes inside the integral limits such that θ(t)=qt for 0<q<1, t≥0. Either the approximate solutions that are converging to the exact solutions or the exact solutions of three test problems are obtained by using this presented process. The numerical solutions and the absolute errors are shown in figures and tables
