ABSTRACT: BACKGROUND: Intestinal schistosomiasis remains a worrying health problem, particularly in western Côte d'Ivoire, despite control efforts. It is therefore necessary to understand all the factors involved in the development of the disease, including biotic and abiotic factors. The aim of this study was to examine the factors that could support the maintenance of the intermediate host and its vectorial capacity in western Côte d'Ivoire.MethodsData on river physicochemical, microbiological, and climatic parameters, the presence or absence of snails with Schistosoma mansoni, and human infections were collected between January 2020 and February 2021. Spearman rank correlation tests, Mann-Whitney, analysis of variance (ANOVA), and an appropriate model selection procedure were used to analyze the data.ResultsThe overall prevalence of infected snails was 56.05%, with infection reaching 100% in some collection sites and localities. Of 26 sites examined, 25 contained thermophilic coliforms and 22 contained Escherichia coli. Biomphalaria pfeifferi was observed in environments with lower land surface temperature (LST) and higher relative air humidity (RAH), and B. pfeifferi infection predominated in more acidic environments. Thermal coliforms and E. coli preferred higher pH levels. Lower maximum LST (LST_Max) and higher RAH and minimum LST (LST_Min) were favorable to E. coli, and lower LST_Max favored coliforms. The presence of B. pfeifferi was positively influenced by water temperature (T °C), LST_Min, RAH, and precipitation (Pp) (P 2 = 0.879, P = 0.04959).ConclusionsThe results obtained reflect the environmental conditions that are conducive to the maintenance of S. mansoni infection in this part of the country. To combat this infection as effectively as possible, it will be necessary not only to redouble efforts but also to prioritize control according to the level of endemicity at the village level

The extensive research on the Ivorian languages have focused on aspects such as grammar, phonology, prosody, the enunciation, etc. The concern for the development of terminology likely to translate science (mathematics, physics, natural sciences, arts, technologies for the development of academic books was not the order of the day. Today the evolution of human society requires. The culture and identity of African countries must be promoted through an education system that has language support for the Ivorian languages and / or Africa. the development of a conceptual apparatus in this dynamic of nationalization of education is at the heart of the African development process

OBJECTIVE: Although claims data are widely used in medical research, their ability to identify persons' health-related conditions has not been fully justified. We assessed the validity of claims-based algorithms (CBAs) for identifying people with common chronic conditions in a large population using annual health screening results as the gold standard.STUDY DESIGN AND SETTING: Using a longitudinal claims database (n=523,267) combined with annual health screening results, we defined the people with hypertension, diabetes, and/or dyslipidemia by applying health screening results as their gold standard, and compared them against various CBAs.RESULTS: By using diagnostic and medication code-based CBAs, sensitivity and specificity were 74.5% (95% Confidence Interval [CI], 74.2-74.8%) and 98.2% (98.2-98.3%) for hypertension, 78.6% (77.3-79.8%) and 99.6% (99.5-99.6%) for diabetes, and 34.5% (34.2-34.7%) and 97.2% (97.2-97.3%) for dyslipidemia, respectively. Sensitivity did not decrease substantially for hypertension (65.2% [95% CI, 64.9-65.5%]) and diabetes (73.0% [71.7-74.2%]) when we used the same CBAs without limiting to primary care settings.CONCLUSION: We employed regularly collected data to obtain CBA association measures which are applicable to a wide range of populations. Our framework can be a basis of the validity assessment of CBAs for identifying persons' health-related conditions with regularly collected data

Mineralogical and Chemical Characteristics of Clays Consumed in the District of Abidjan (Côte D’Ivoire)

International audienceClay materials of the quarry of Bingerville (district of Abidjan) have been characterized by chemical analysis, X-rays diffraction, infrared spectroscopy and thermal analysis. These materials contain kaolinite (41% - 84%), illite (4% - 10%), quartz (14% - 27%), goethite (2% - 5%) and small amount of rutile (1%) that are not toxic minerals. They also contain some heavy metals which are beneficial to human biological activity (cobalt, copper, molybdenum, zinc) in tiny quantities. Some other heavy metals (lead, cadmium) which are considered as poisonous for human are present in very low content. The samples characterized by relatively fine grains are moderately crystallized. Their specific surface area varied from 26 to 43 m2∙g−1. The mineralogical and physicochemical characteristics of these samples are like ones known for their healing properties. The consumption by internal way of studied materials, although it may be beneficial, requires a sifting to remove coarse grains (ϕ > 2 μm) and a previous microbiological control
