    Measurement of colour coordinates of LEDs used in the automotive exterior lighting

    Article deals with dichromatic white light-emitting diode (LED’s) color coordinates used in automotive exterior lighting. This article also describes basic white automotive LED functionality and basic physical processes that create white light of these LEDs. It focuses on measuring color coordinates of white automotive LEDs with different temperature of LED and how the LED’s color depends on LED’s temperature. The article is comparing very important datasheet information of LED producers and values measured in the laboratory at university. The article contains statistical results of measurements and graphical representation of measured values and declared color bins which are very important for producers of headlamps for automotive companies

    International network of cancer genome projects

    The International Cancer Genome Consortium (ICGC) was launched to coordinate large-scale cancer genome studies in tumors from 50 different cancer types and/or subtypes that are of clinical and societal importance across the globe. Systematic studies of over 25,000 cancer genomes at the genomic, epigenomic, and transcriptomic levels will reveal the repertoire of oncogenic mutations, uncover traces of the mutagenic influences, define clinically-relevant subtypes for prognosis and therapeutic management, and enable the development of new cancer therapies

    Antibiotic Resistance in Nosocomial Bacteria Isolated from Infected Wounds of Hospitalized Patients in Czech Republic

    Hospitalized patients with wounds face an increased risk of infection with multi-drug-resistant nosocomial bacteria. In this study, samples from almost 10,000 patients from big hospitals in Czech Republic with infected wounds were analyzed for the presence of bacterial pathogens. In 7693 patients (78.8%), bacterial etiological agents were identified. Members of the Enterobacterales (37.1%) and Staphyloccus aureus (21.1%) were the most prevalent pathogens. Staphyloccus aureus showed methicillin resistance in 8.6%. Almost half of the Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates were ESBL-positive and 25.6% of the Enterobacter spp. isolates were AmpC-positive. The third most prevalent Pseudomonas aeruginosa showed resistance to 19–32% of the antipseudomonal antibiotics tested. Based on the results, amoxicillin/clavulanic acid, ampicillin/sulbactam or piperacillin/tazobactam combined with gentamicin can be recommended for antibiotic treatment of infected wounds. Once the etiological agent is identified, the therapy should be adjusted according to the species and its resistance

    Recommendations from the 2008 international summit on proteomics data release and sharing policy : the Amsterdam principles

    Policies supporting the rapid and open sharing of genomic data have directly fueled the accelerated pace of discovery in large-scale genomics research. The proteomics community is starting to implement analogous policies and infrastructure for making large-scale proteomics data widely available on a pre-competitive basis. On August 14, 2008, the National Cancer Institute (NCI) convened the “International Summit on Proteomics Data Release and Sharing Policy” in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, to identify and address potential roadblocks to rapid and open access to data. The six principles agreed upon by key stakeholders at the summit addressed issues surrounding 1) timing, 2) comprehensiveness, 3) format, 4) deposition to repositories, 5) quality metrics, and 6) responsibility for proteomics data release. This summit report explores various approaches to develop a framework of data release and sharing principles that will most effectively fulfill the needs of the funding agencies and the research community

    Policies supporting the rapid and open sharing of proteomic data are being implemented by the leading journals in the field. The proteomics community is taking steps to ensure that data are made publicly accessible and are of high quality, a challenging task that requires the development and deployment of methods for measuring and documenting data quality metrics. On September 18, 2010, the U.S. National Cancer Institute (NCI) convened the “International Workshop on Proteomic Data Quality Metrics” in Sydney, Australia, to identify and address issues facing the development and use of such methods for open access proteomics data. The stakeholders at the workshop enumerated the key principles underlying a framework for data quality assessment in mass spectrometry data that will meet the needs of the research community, journals, funding agencies, and data repositories. Attendees discussed and agreed up on two primary needs for the wide use of quality metrics: (1) an evolving list of comprehensive quality metrics and (2) standards accompanied by software analytics. Attendees stressed the importance of increased education and training programs to promote reliable protocols in proteomics. This workshop report explores the historic precedents, key discussions, and necessary next steps to enhance the quality of open access data.By agreement, this article is published simultaneously in the <i>Journal of Proteome Research</i>, <i>Molecular and Cellular Proteomics</i>, <i>Proteomics</i>, and <i>Proteomics Clinical Applications</i> as a public service to the research community.
