Candida auris: epidemiological situation, laboratory capacity and preparedness in European Union and European Economic Area countries, 2013 to 2017
During 2013–2017, 620 cases of Candida auris were reported in the European Union/European Economic Area – 466 (75.2%) colonisations, 110 (17.7%) bloodstream infections, 40 (6.5%) other infections and four cases (0.6%) of unknown colonisation/infection status – the majority from four large outbreaks. Survey results showed that several countries lacked laboratory capacity and/or information on the occurrence of cases at national level. To prevent further spread, adequate laboratory capacity and infection control preparedness is required in Europe.</jats:p
An interleaved sampling scheme for the characterization of single qubit dynamics
In this paper, we demonstrate that interleaved sampling techniques can be
used to characterize the Hamiltonian of a qubit and its environmental
decoherence rate. The technique offers a significant advantage in terms of the
number of measurements that are required to characterize a qubit. When compared
to the standard Nyquist-Shannon sampling rate, the saving in the total
measurement time for the interleaved method is approximately proportional to

The inverse problem which arises in the Camassa--Holm equation is revisited
for the class of discrete densities. The method of solution relies on the use
of orthogonal polynomials. The explicit formulas are obtained directly from the
analysis on the real axis without any additional transformation to a "string"

MOST photometry of the RRd Lyrae variable AQ Leo: Two radial modes, 32 combination frequencies, and beyond
Highly precise and nearly uninterrupted optical photometry of the RR Lyrae
star AQ Leo was obtained with the MOST (Microvariability & Oscillations of
STars) satellite over 34.4 days in February-March 2005. AQ Leo was the first
known double-mode RR Lyrae pulsator (RRd star). Three decades after its
discovery, MOST observations have revealed that AQ Leo oscillates with at least
42 frequencies, of which 32 are linear combinations (up to the sixth order) of
the radial fundamental mode and its first overtone. Evidence for period changes
of these modes is found in the data. The other intrinsic frequencies may
represent an additional nonradial pulsation mode and its harmonics (plus linear
combinations) which warrant theoretical modeling. The unprecedented number of
frequencies detected with amplitudes down to millimag precision also presents
an opportunity to test nonlinear theories of mode growth and saturation in RR

Mapping the Association of Global Executive Functioning Onto Diverse Measures of Psychopathic Traits
Psychopathic individuals display a callous-coldhearted approach to interpersonal and affective situations and engage in impulsive and antisocial behaviors. Despite early conceptualizations suggesting that psychopathy is related to enhanced cognitive functioning, research examining executive functioning (EF) in psychopathy has yielded few such findings. It is possible that some psychopathic trait dimensions are more related to EF than others. Research using a 2-factor or 4-facet model of psychopathy highlights some dimension-specific differences in EF, but this research is limited in scope. Another complicating factor in teasing apart the EF–psychopathy relationship is the tendency to use different psychopathy assessments for incarcerated versus community samples. Young women with a disorder of sex development: learning to share information with health professionals, friends and intimate partners about bodily differences and infertility
Aim: To understand the experiences of young women with a disorder of sex development when sharing information about their body with healthcare professionals, friends and intimate partners. Background: Disorders of sex development are lifelong conditions that create bodily difference such as absence of reproductive organs which can impact on young women's fertility and sexual experiences. Design: Interpretive phenomenological analysis with thirteen young women (14-19 years old) with a disorder of sex development. Methods: The young women chose to participate in either a face-to-face semi-structured interview or to complete a paper diary between 2011-2012. Results: A superordinate theme focusing on the meaning bodily differences held for these young women is presented through three themes: self-awareness and communicating this to others; actualizing intimacy; and expressing meaning of altered fertility to self or professionals or partners. During early adolescence, the young women were guarded and reticent about sharing personal information about their disorder of sex development but as they moved towards adulthood, some of the young women learnt to engage in conversations with more confidence. Frustrations about their bodily differences and the limitations of their bodies were talked about as factors which limited physical spontaneity, impacted on their perceived sexual fulfilment and challenged the development or sustainability of close friendships or intimate partnerships. The young women wanted empathic, sensitive support from knowledgeable health professionals to help them understand their bodies. Conclusion: Attachment and a 'sense of being' were the concepts that were closely linked to the young women's development of a secure identity
Continuous and discontinuous piecewise linear solutions of the linearly forced inviscid Burgers equation
We study a class of piecewise linear solutions to the inviscid Burgers
equation driven by a linear forcing term. Inspired by the analogy with peakons,
we think of these solutions as being made up of solitons situated at the
breakpoints. We derive and solve ODEs governing the soliton dynamics, first for
continuous solutions, and then for more general shock wave solutions with
discontinuities. We show that triple collisions of solitons cannot take place
for continuous solutions, but give an example of a triple collision in the

The inverse spectral problem for the discrete cubic string
Given a measure on the real line or a finite interval, the "cubic string"
is the third order ODE where is a spectral parameter. If
equipped with Dirichlet-like boundary conditions this is a nonselfadjoint
boundary value problem which has recently been shown to have a connection to
the Degasperis-Procesi nonlinear water wave equation. In this paper we study
the spectral and inverse spectral problem for the case of Neumann-like boundary
conditions which appear in a high-frequency limit of the Degasperis--Procesi
equation. We solve the spectral and inverse spectral problem for the case of
being a finite positive discrete measure. In particular, explicit
determinantal formulas for the measure are given. These formulas generalize
Stieltjes' formulas used by Krein in his study of the corresponding second

The Impact of Acceptance and Commitment Training and Multicultural Training on the stigmatizing attitudes and professional burnout of substance abuse counselors
Empirically validated methods for reducing stigma and prejudice toward recipients of behavioral healthcare services are badly needed. In the present study, two packages presented in one day workshops were compared to a biologically oriented Educational Control condition in the alleviation of stigmatizing attitudes in drug abuse counselors. One, Acceptance and Commitment Training (ACT), utilized acceptance, defusion, mindfulness, and values methods. The other, Multicultural Training, sensitized participants to group prejudices and biases. Measures of stigma and burnout were taken pre-training, post-training, and after a three month follow-up. Results showed that Multicultural Training had an impact on stigmatizing attitudes and burnout post-intervention but not at follow-up, but showed better gains in a sense of personal accomplishment as compared to the Educational Control at follow-up. ACT had a positive impact on stigma at follow-up and on burnout at post-treatment and follow-up and follow-up gains in burnout exceeded those of Multicultural Training. ACT also significantly changed the believability of stigmatizing attitudes. This process mediated the impact of ACT but not Multicultural Training on follow-up stigma and burnout. This preliminary study opens new avenues for reducing stigma and burnout in behavioral health counselors
A One Health investigation of Salmonella enterica serovar Wangata in north-eastern New South Wales, Australia, 2016-2017
Salmonella enterica serovar Wangata (S. Wangata) is an important cause of endemic salmonellosis in Australia, with human infections occurring from undefined sources. This investigation sought to examine possible environmental and zoonotic sources for human infections with S. Wangata in north-eastern New South Wales (NSW), Australia. The investigation adopted a One Health approach and was comprised of three complimentary components: a case–control study examining human risk factors; environmental and animal sampling; and genomic analysis of human, animal and environmental isolates. Forty-eight human S. Wangata cases were interviewed during a 6-month period from November 2016 to April 2017, together with 55 Salmonella Typhimurium (S. Typhimurium) controls and 130 neighbourhood controls. Indirect contact with bats/flying foxes (S. Typhimurium controls (adjusted odds ratio (aOR) 2.63, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.06–6.48)) (neighbourhood controls (aOR 8.33, 95% CI 2.58–26.83)), wild frogs (aOR 3.65, 95% CI 1.32–10.07) and wild birds (aOR 6.93, 95% CI 2.29–21.00) were statistically associated with illness in multivariable analyses. S. Wangata was detected in dog faeces, wildlife scats and a compost specimen collected from the outdoor environments of cases’ residences. In addition, S. Wangata was detected in the faeces of wild birds and sea turtles in the investigation area. Genomic analysis revealed that S. Wangata isolates were relatively clonal. Our findings suggest that S. Wangata is present in the environment and may have a reservoir in wildlife populations in north-eastern NSW. Further investigation is required to better understand the occurrence of Salmonella in wildlife groups and to identify possible transmission pathways for human infections.Whole genome sequencing for this project was supported by the NSW Public Health Pathogen Genomics Consortium,
