Wearable Sensor Data Based Human Activity Recognition using Machine Learning: A new approach
Recent years have witnessed the rapid development of human activity
recognition (HAR) based on wearable sensor data. One can find many practical
applications in this area, especially in the field of health care. Many machine
learning algorithms such as Decision Trees, Support Vector Machine, Naive
Bayes, K-Nearest Neighbor, and Multilayer Perceptron are successfully used in
HAR. Although these methods are fast and easy for implementation, they still
have some limitations due to poor performance in a number of situations. In
this paper, we propose a novel method based on the ensemble learning to boost
the performance of these machine learning methods for HAR

Current-Induced Spin Polarization in Gallium Nitride
Electrically generated spin polarization is probed directly in bulk GaN using
Kerr rotation spectroscopy. A series of n-type GaN epilayers are grown in the
wurtzite phase both by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) and metalorganic chemical
vapor deposition (MOCVD) with a variety of doping densities chosen to broadly
modulate the transverse spin lifetime, T2*. The spin polarization is
characterized as a function of electrical excitation energy over a range of
temperatures. Despite weak spin-orbit interactions in GaN, a current-induced
spin polarization (CISP) is observed in the material at temperatures of up to
200 K.Comment: 16 pages, 3 figure
Development of an antibody fragment that stabilizes GPCR/G-protein complexes.
Single-particle cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) has recently enabled high-resolution structure determination of numerous biological macromolecular complexes. Despite this progress, the application of high-resolution cryo-EM to G protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) in complex with heterotrimeric G proteins remains challenging, owning to both the relative small size and the limited stability of these assemblies. Here we describe the development of antibody fragments that bind and stabilize GPCR-G protein complexes for the application of high-resolution cryo-EM. One antibody in particular, mAb16, stabilizes GPCR/G-protein complexes by recognizing an interface between Gα and Gβγ subunits in the heterotrimer, and confers resistance to GTPγS-triggered dissociation. The unique recognition mode of this antibody makes it possible to transfer its binding and stabilizing effect to other G-protein subtypes through minimal protein engineering. This antibody fragment is thus a broadly applicable tool for structural studies of GPCR/G-protein complexes
Industrial Internet of Things, Big Data, and Artificial Intelligence in the Smart Factory: a survey and perspective
International audienceThanks to the rapid development and applications of advanced technologies, we are experiencing the fourth industrial revolution, or Industry 4.0, which is a revolution towards smart manufacturing. The wide use of cyber physical systems and Internet of Things leads to the era of Big Data in industrial manufacturing. Artificial Intelligence algorithms emerge as powerful analytics tools to process and analyze the Big Data. These advanced technologies result in the introduction of a new concept in the Industry 4.0: the smart Factory. In order to fully understand this new concept in the context of the Industry 4.0, this paper provides a survey on the key components of a smart factory and the link between them, including the Industrial Internet of Things, Big Data and Artificial Intelligence. Several studies and techniques that are used to enable smart manufacturing are reviewed. Finally, we discuss some perspectives for further researches
Finite energy Dirac-Born-Infeld monopoles and string junctions
It is shown that the world volume field theory of a single D3-brane in a supergravity D3-brane background admits finite energy, and non-singular, Abelian monopoles and dyons preserving 1/2 or 1/4 of the N=4 supersymmetry and saturating a Bogomolnyi-type bound. The 1/4 supersymmetric solitons provide a world volume realization of string-junction dyons. We also discuss the dual M-theory realization of the 1/2 supersymmetric dyons as finite tension self-dual strings on the M5-brane, and of the 1/4 supersymmetric dyons as their intersections
Design Equation: A Novel Approach to Heteropolymer Design
A novel approach to heteropolymer design is proposed. It is based on the
criterion by Kurosky and Deutsch, with which the probability of a target
conformation in a conformation space is maximized at low but finite
temperature. The key feature of the proposed approach is the use of soft spins
(fuzzy monomers) that leads to a design equation, which is an analog of the
Boltzmann machine learning equation in the design problem. We implement an
algorithm based on the design equation for the generalized HP model on the
3x3x3 cubic lattice and check its performance.Comment: 7 pages, 3 tables, 1 figures, uses jpsj.sty, jpsjbs1.sty, epsf.sty,
