We present a measurement of the ratio R = \Gamma(\keg;\Estar>30\mev,\qstar>20^\circ)//\Gamma(\kegf)andafirstmeasurementofthedirectemissioncontributioninKLsemileptonicdecays.ThemeasurementisdoneattheDAFNEphifactoryselectingphi>KLKSdecayswiththeKLOEdetector.Weuse328pb1 and a first measurement of the direct emission contribution in KL semileptonic decays. The measurement is done at the DAFNE phi-factory selecting phi->KL KS decays with the KLOE detector. We use 328 pb^{-1} of data corresponding to about 3.5 million Ke3(g) events and about 9000 radiative events. Our result is R=(924 +/- 23(stat) +/-16(syst)10^{-5} for the branching ratio and X=-2.3 +/- 1.3(stat) +/- 1.4(syst) for the parameter describing direct emission.Comment: 8 pages, 7 figure

Diagnosis of biliary tract and ampullary carcinomas

Diagnostic methods for biliary tract carcinoma and the efficacy of these methods are discussed. Neither definite methods for early diagnosis nor specific markers are available in this disease. When this disease is suspected on the basis of clinical symptoms and risk factors, hemato-biochemical examination and abdominal ultrasonography are performed and, where appropriate, enhanced computed tomography (CT) and/or magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP) is carried out. Diagnoses of extrahepatic bile duct cancer and ampullary carcinoma are often made based on the presence of obstructive jaundice. Although rare, abdominal pain and pyrexia, as well as abnormal findings of the hepatobiliary system detected by hemato-biochemical examination, serve as a clue to making a diagnosis of these diseases. On the other hand, the early diagnosis of gallbladder cancer is scarcely possible on the basis of clinical symptoms, so when this cancer is found with the onset of abdominal pain and jaundice, it is already advanced at the time of detection, thus making a cure difficult. When gallbladder cancer is suspected, enhanced CT is carried out. Multidetector computed tomography (MDCT), in particular — one of the methods of enhanced CT — is useful for decision of surgical criteria, because MDCT shows findings such as localization and extension of the tumor, and the presence or absence of remote metastasis. Procedures such as magnetic resonance imaging, endoscopic ultrasonography, bile duct biopsy, and cholangioscopy should be carried out taking into account indications for these procedures in individual patients. However, direct biliary tract imaging is necessary for making a precise diagnosis of the horizontal extension of bile duct cancer

Measurement of the production cross section for a W boson and two b jets in pp collisions at root s=7 TeV

    Get PDF
The production cross section for a W boson and two b jets is measured using proton&#8211;proton collisions at s=7 TeV in a data sample collected with the CMS experiment at the LHC corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 fb &#8722;1 . The W+bb¯ events are selected in the W&#8594;&#956;&#957; decay mode by requiring a muon with transverse momentum pT>25 GeV and pseudorapidity |&#951;|25 GeV and |&#951;|<2.4 . The measured W+bb¯ production cross section in the fiducial region, calculated at the level of final-state particles, is &#963;(pp&#8594;W+bb¯)×B(W&#8594;&#956;&#957;)=0.53±0.05(stat.)±0.09(syst.)±0.06(theo.)±0.01(lum.) pb , in agreement with the standard model prediction. In addition, kinematic distributions of the W+bb¯ system are in agreement with the predictions of a simulation using MadGraph and pythia

The beam and detector of the NA62 experiment at CERN

    Get PDF
NA62 is a fixed-target experiment at the CERN SPS dedicated to measurements of rare kaon decays. Such measurements, like the branching fraction of the K+ → π+ ν bar nu decay, have the potential to bring significant insights into new physics processes when comparison is made with precise theoretical predictions. For this purpose, innovative techniques have been developed, in particular, in the domain of low-mass tracking devices. Detector construction spanned several years from 2009 to 2014. The collaboration started detector commissioning in 2014 and will collect data until the end of 2018. The beam line and detector components are described together with their early performance obtained from 2014 and 2015 data

Tratamento térmico para controle da lanosidade em pêssegos 'Dourado-2' refrigerados Heat treatment to alleviation of woolliness of cold stored 'Dourado-2' peach

Os tratamentos térmicos provocaram poucas alterações no teor de sólidos solúveis, acidez, ácido ascórbico, coloração e incidência de podridões.<br>The work was carried out with the objective to verify the effect of heat treatments on the incidence of woolliness in 'Dourado-2' peaches stored at 0ºC. Heat treatments were applied as conditioning temperature (50ºC during 2 hours or 20ºC during 48 hours) before cold storage. In intermittent warming, fruit treatments were warmed each five days at 25ºC during 24 hours or each ten days during 48 hours. Control fruit were continuously stored at 0ºC. The variables evaluated after 30 days at 0ºC (plus three days at room temperature) were: incidence of woolliness and decay, soluble solids content (SSC), acidity, ascorbic acid, skin color, firmness, respiratory rate, ethylene production and activity of polygalacturonase (PG) and pectinmethylesterase (PME). The intermittent warming with cycles of five or ten days and the conditioning temperature at 20ºC during 48 hours before cold storage was the most effective treatment to reduce incidence of woolliness. However, heat treatment hastened fruit softening. Ethylene production was higher in fruits intermittently warmed and this can be related to the higher activity of PG and PME and consequently to alleviation of woolliness of the fruit. Heat treatment caused little variations on SSC, acidity, ascorbic acid and skin color
