A Top Quark Soliton and its Anomalous Chromomagnetic Moment

    Get PDF
We show that under the assumption of dynamical symmetry breaking of electro weak interactions by a top quark condensate, motivated by the Top Mode Standard Model, the top quark in this effective theory can be considered then as chiral color soliton (qualiton). This is realized in an effective four-fermion interaction with chiral SU(3)cSU(3)_c as well as SU(2)LUY(1)SU(2)_L\otimes U_Y(1) symmetry. In the pure top sector the qualiton consists of a top valence quark and a Dirac sea of top and anti-top quark coupled to a color octet of Goldstone pions. The mass spectra, isoscalar quadratic radii and the anomalous chromomagnetic moment due to a non-trivial color form factor are calculated with zero and finite current top masses and effects at the Hadron Colliders are discussed. The anomalous chromomagnetic moment turns out to have a value consistent with the top production rates of the D0- and CDF-measurements.Comment: LaTeX, using RevTeX.sty and aps.sty, without figures, 16 pages, to be published in Physical Review D. Fachkräftebedarf: Analyse und Handlungsstrategien

The Crowdsourced Replication Initiative: Investigating Immigration and Social Policy Preferences. Executive Report.

    Get PDF
In an era of mass migration, social scientists, populist parties and social movements raise concerns over the future of immigration-destination societies. What impacts does this have on policy and social solidarity? Comparative cross-national research, relying mostly on secondary data, has findings in different directions. There is a threat of selective model reporting and lack of replicability. The heterogeneity of countries obscures attempts to clearly define data-generating models. P-hacking and HARKing lurk among standard research practices in this area. This project employs crowdsourcing to address these issues. It draws on replication, deliberation, meta-analysis and harnessing the power of many minds at once. The Crowdsourced Replication Initiative carries two main goals, (a) to better investigate the linkage between immigration and social policy preferences across countries, and (b) to develop crowdsourcing as a social science method. The Executive Report provides short reviews of the area of social policy preferences and immigration, and the methods and impetus behind crowdsourcing plus a description of the entire project. Three main areas of findings will appear in three papers, that are registered as PAPs or in process

The mechanical and thermal setup of the GLORIA spectrometer

The novel airborne Gimballed Limb Observer for Radiance Imaging of the Atmosphere (GLORIA) measures infrared emission of atmospheric trace constituents. GLORIA comprises a cooled imaging Fourier transform spectrometer, which is operated in unpressurized aircraft compartments at ambient temperature. The whole spectrometer is pointed by the gimbal towards the atmospheric target. In order to reach the required sensitivity for atmospheric emission measurements, the spectrometer optics needs to operate at a temperature below 220 K. A lightweight and compact design is mandatory due to limited space and high agility requirements. The cooled optical system needs to withstand high pressure and temperature gradients, humidity, and vibrations. A new cooling system based on carbon dioxide and liquid nitrogen combined with high-performance insulation has been developed to meet the mechanical, thermal, and logistical demands. The challenging mechanical and spatial requirements lead to the development of a novel rigid linear slide design in order to achieve the large optical path difference for high spectral resolution. This paper describes the mechanical and thermal setup of GLORIA and presents the performance results on two different research aircrafts

Developing a core outcome-domain set to assessing effectiveness of interdisciplinary multimodal pain therapy: the VAPAIN consensus statement on core outcome-domains

    No full text
Interdisciplinary multimodal pain therapy (IMPT) is a biopsychosocial treatment approach for patients with chronic pain that comprises at least psychological and physiotherapeutic interventions. Core Outcome Sets (COSs) are currently developed in different medical fields to standardize and improve the selection of outcome-domains, and measurement instruments in clinical trials, to make trial results meaningful, to pool trial results, and to allow indirect comparison between interventions. The objective of this study was to develop a COS of patient-relevant outcome-domains for chronic pain in IMPT clinical trials. An international, multi-professional panel (patient representatives (n=5), physicians specialized in pain medicine (n=5), physiotherapists (n=5), clinical psychologists (n=5), and methodological researchers (n=5)) was recruited for a 3-stage consensus study, which consisted of a mixed-method approach comprising an exploratory systematic review, a preparing online survey to identify important outcome-domains, a face-to-face consensus meeting to agree on COS domains, and a second online survey (Delphi) establishing agreement on definitions for the domains included. The panel agreed on the following eight domains to be included into the COS for IMPT: pain intensity, pain frequency, physical activity, emotional wellbeing, satisfaction with social roles and activities, productivity (paid and unpaid, at home and at work, inclusive presentism and absenteeism), health-related quality of life, and patient's perception of treatment goal achievement. The complexity of chronic pain in a biopsychosocial context is reflected in the current recommendation, and includes physical, mental and social outcomes. In a subsequent step measurement instruments will be identified via systematic reviews.status: publishe
