Transmission loss predictions for dissipative silencers of arbitrary cross section in the presence of mean flow
A numerical technique is developed for the analysis of dissipative silencers of arbitrary, but axially uniform, cross section. Mean gas flow is included in a central airway which is separated from a bulk reacting porous material by a concentric perforate screen. The analysis begins by employing the finite element method to extract the eigenvalues and associated eigenvectors for a silencer of infinite length. Point collocation is then used to match the expanded acoustic pressure and velocity fields in the silencer chamber to those in the inlet and outlet pipes. Transmission loss predictions are compared with experimental measurements taken for two automotive dissipative silencers with elliptical cross sections. Good agreement between prediction and experiment is observed both without mean flow and for a mean flow Mach number of 0.15. It is demonstrated also that the technique presented offers a considerable reduction in computational expenditure when compared to a three dimensional finite element analysis
Religiosity and Spirituality as Resiliency Resources: Moderation, Mediation, or Moderated Mediation?
A growing body of literature indicates a modestly positive association between religiosity and spirituality as predictors of psychological health (anxiety and depression), suggesting they serve as personal resiliency factors. The purpose of this study was to expand our understanding of the relationships among these constructs. Using Lazarus’ Transactional Model of Stress as a theoretical framework, we examined a) the extent to which spirituality and religiosity mediated and/or moderated the association between perceived stress and psychological health, and b) whether there was a moderated (religiosity) mediation (spirituality) between stress and health. The Perceived Stress Scale, Daily Spiritual Experiences Scale, Religious Commitment Inventory, and Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale were administered to measure the following constructs: stress, spirituality, religiosity, and psychological health. This study utilized a non-experimental, quantitative, correlational, cross-sectional, moderated-mediation design, and included a convenience sample of 331 research participants. Both spirituality and religiosity moderated stress and health. However, only spirituality (not religiosity) partially mediated the relationship. In addition, religiosity did not moderate the mediating effects of spirituality. Overall, this study confirmed the role of both religiosity and spirituality as effective resiliency resources

Selenate-enriched urea granules are a highly effective fertilizer for selenium biofortification of paddy rice grain

Plants were grown to maturity in a temperature- and humidity-controlled growth chamber using three water management methods: field capacity (FC), submerged until harvest, and submerged and drained two weeks before harvest; two Se species: selenate (SeO[subscript 4] ˉ²) and selenite (SeO[subscript 3]ˉ²) applied at a rate equivalent to 30 g haˉ¹; and four application methods: i) Se applied at soil preparation, ii) Se-enriched urea granules applied to floodwater at heading iii) foliar Se applied at heading and iv) fluid fertilizer Se applied to soil or floodwater at heading. Total Se concentrations in rice grains, husks, leaves, culms and roots were measured, as well as Se speciation in grains from the Se-enriched urea granule treatment. Highest Se
concentrations in the grain occurred with SeO[subscript 4] ˉ² and with fertilizer applied at heading stage; SeO[subscript 4]ˉ²-enriched urea granules applied at heading increased grain Se concentrations 5 to 6 fold (by 450-600 μg kgˉ¹) compared to the control (no fertilizer Se applied) in all water treatments. Under paddy conditions other Se fertilization strategies were much less effective. Drainage before harvesting caused Se to accumulate in/on rice roots, possibly through adsorption onto iron plaque on roots. Rice grains contained Se mainly in the organic form as selenomethionine (SeM) which comprised over 90 % of the total grain Se in treatments fertilized with SeO[subscript 4]ˉ² -enriched urea granules. The results of this study clearly show of the fertilizer strategies tested that biofortification of Se in rice grains can best be achieved in lowland rice by broadcast application of SeO[subscript 4]ˉ² -enriched urea granules to floodwater at heading stage
2010 Precision Planted Corn Performance Trials
This publication reports the results of the 2010 South Dakota corn hybrid performance trials for glyphosate-resistant hybrids. Information includes both the most recent two-year and one-year grain yields in bushels per acre and one-year bushel weight in pounds, along with grain moisture at harvest, lodging, and final stand in percentages. These performance trials are conducted by the South Dakota Crop Performance Testing program at South Dakota State University. Corn performance trial tables are listed on the inside front cover. Environmental data is listed in tables A and B, indices of brand/hybrid entries to performance table number are listed in table C, table D has the performance table footnote legends, and mailing addresses for seed companies are listed in table E

Absorption spectrum in the wings of the potassium second resonance doublet broadened by helium
We have measured the reduced absorption coefficients occurring in the wings
of the potassium 4S-5P doublet lines at 404.414 nm and at 404.720 nm broadened
by helium gas at pressures of several hundred Torr. At the experimental
temperature of 900 K, we have detected a shoulder-like broadening feature on
the blue wing of the doublet which is relatively flat between 401.8 nm and
402.8 nm and which drops off rapidly for shorter wavelengths, corresponding to
absorption from the X doublet Sigma+ state to the C doublet Sigma+ state of the
K-He quasimolecule. The accurate measurements of the line profiles in the
present work will sharply constrain future calculations of potential energy
surfaces and transition dipole moments correlating to the asymptotes He-K(5p),
He-K(5s), and He-K(3d).Comment: 2 figure
Smoothness-Increasing Accuracy-Conserving (SIAC) filters for derivative approximations of discontinuous Galerkin (DG) solutions over nonuniform meshes and near boundaries
Accurate approximations for the derivatives are usually required in many application areas such as biomechanics, chemistry and visualization applications. With the help of Smoothness-Increasing Accuracy-Conserving (SIAC) filtering, one can enhance the derivatives of a discontinuous Galerkin solution. However, current investigations of derivative filtering are limited to uniform meshes and periodic boundary conditions, which do not meet practical requirements. The purpose of this paper is twofold: to extend derivative filtering to nonuniform meshes and propose position-dependent derivative filters to handle filtering near the boundaries. Through analyzing the error estimates for SIAC filtering, we extend derivative filtering to nonuniform meshes by changing the scaling of the filter. For filtering near boundaries, we discuss the advantages and disadvantages of two existing position-dependent filters and then extend them to position-dependent derivative filters, respectively. Further, we prove that with the position-dependent derivative filters, the filtered solutions can obtain a better accuracy rate compared to the original discontinuous Galerkin approximation with arbitrary derivative orders over nonuniform meshes. One- and two-dimensional numerical results are provided to support the theoretical results and demonstrate that the position-dependent derivative filters, in general, enhance the accuracy of the solution for both uniform and nonuniform meshes
