Palaeography is the study of ancient handwritten manuscripts to date the age and to localize ancient and medieval scripts. It also deals with analysing the development of the letters shape. Ancient Jawi manuscripts are one of the least studied area. Nowadays, over 7789 known Jawi manuscripts are kept in custody of various libraries in Malaysia. Most of these manuscripts were undated with unknown authors and location of origin. Analysing the different types of writing styles and recognizing the manuscript illuminations can discover this important information. In this paper, we discuss the palaeographical analysis from the perspective of computer science and propose a general framework for that. This process involves investigation of Arabic influence on the Jawi manuscript writings, establishing the palaeographical type of the script, and classification of writing styles based on local and global Jawi image features

Although the effectiveness of Breast Self Examination (BSE) and its potential use as a screening method for detecting early breast cancer is debatable, its practice is useful in raising women's awareness of changes in their breast and body. The Malaysian Ministry of Health has included BSE as one activity of their Healthy Lifestyle Campaign. Public education efforts on BSE are intensified in the printed and electronic media since early 1994. A cross-sectional survey of randomly sampled female attendees of the outpatient clinic, Hospital Kuala Lumpur, aged 20 to 70, was conducted in March 1996. The main purpose was to assess their knowledge, attitude and practice of BSE. Results showed 60.7 % of selected respondents ever practice BSE but only 22.8 % practised it on a monthly basis as recommended. Compared to women who do not practise BSE, women who practised BSE were working, educated to at least secondary education and had family income of more than RM 1001. Total mean score for knowledge was 7.6 ± 2.3 and those with low knowledge consisted only 29.6 % of all respondents. The major sources of knowledge on BSE and breast cancer among these women were television and magazines. Total mean score for attitude among these women was 30 ± 3.1 and 79.4 % of them showed positive attitude towards BSE. The reasons given for not conducting BSE were absence of symptoms and knowledge on how to conduct BSE. This study also showed that BSE practice has a significant relationship with knowledge and attitude of respondents Knowledge was also significantly related with attitude (p values < 0.05 ). Knowledge play an important role in determining the practice of BSE among women. This is evident from logistic regression analysis which showed that knowledge remain significant after controlling selected confounders. In conclusion, despite the high percentage of women exposed to information about BSE and breast cancer, their knowledge and Gonfidence level are still low and only 22.8% respondents practiced BSE monthly as recommended

The frequent oil spill accidents in nowadays has aroused great attention all over the world. Superhydrophobic and superoleophilic grafted on various substrates have attracted much attention to treat oil and water mixture because of their unique performance that can effectively separate oil and water mixture. At the same time, ceramic membrane also shows potential substrates to be used in treating oil and water mixture. However, conventional ceramic membrane that made from alumina show drawbacks in term of its high cost production. Herein, we report a new ceramic membrane that derived from agricultural-sugarcane bagasse waste and modified into superhydrophobic and superoleophilic to act as hybrid oil sorbent and separator. In this study, we successfully treat three types of real oil and water mixture from palm oil mill effluent (POME), restaurant and car wash with oil rejection and flux up to 99% and 134 L/m2h, respectively. In summary, this work demonstrates a facile, economic and effective method to fabricate superhydrophobic and superoleophilic substrates for oil and water separation

One of the purposes of the establishment of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) is to help the needy people to get a better life. They help them by doing fundraising to the public. As they get the public donation, they are also allowed to take the commission from the donation according to the Islamic contracts that have been existed in Islam. The purpose of this study is to analyse the types of contract that have been applied by the NGOs in collecting public donation. The methodology used in this research is qualitative method by using document analysis and interview. The informants involved are from the six selected NGOs which have been registered under Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) or Registry of Societies Malaysia (ROS). These NGOs are chosen due to their enthusiasm, activeness and success in implementing the public donation other than based on their expertise relating to the donation collection of the organization. Besides, they cooperated very well from the beginning of the research until the end. The data obtained is analysed using content analysis. The finding shows that Islamic Relief Malaysia (IRM), Aman Palestin, Majlis Perundingan Pertubuhan Islam Malaysia (MAPIM), Cinta Syria Malaysia (CSM) and Muslim Volunteer Malaysia (MVM) apply the contract of ijarah, wakalah and ji’alah which comply with the law of Sharia. Yet, Serantau Muslim does not apply any contracts as they do not take any commission from the public donation. Further research needs to be done to identify the similarity of the contract applied by the other NGOs
