A System Framework For Managing Learner Autonomy

    Get PDF
The need to connect information systems studies with other concentrations in business school curricula requires the development of integral courses comprised of several knowledge domains. Students with different prior knowledge, skills and learning focus (e.g., business development, technology management, or programming) should be able to enroll in the same course. The resulting difficulties of such personalized classroom management techniques could be largely overcome through special learning designs and proper technological architecture. Presented results could be generalized for other complex non-linear course organizations

    Partikeldetektion in mikrofluidischen Systemen

    Get PDF

Analysis of microparticles is an important tool in medicine, biology and chemistry. In order to address future application areas, new systems will be produced by printing technology. In this work new microfluidic particle detection systems which employ planar optics are developed and analyzed. Because the characteristic of these new systems differs greatly from established particle detection systems the signals and statistics are analyzed in depth

The Intrinsic Connectome of the Rat Amygdala

The connectomes of nervous systems or parts there of are becoming important subjects of study as the amount of connectivity data increases. Because most tract-tracing studies are performed on the rat, we conducted a comprehensive analysis of the amygdala connectome of this species resulting in a meta-study. The data were imported into the neuroVIISAS system, where regions of the connectome are organized in a controlled ontology and network analysis can be performed. A weighted digraph represents the bilateral intrinsic (connections of regions of the amygdala) and extrinsic (connections of regions of the amygdala to non-amygdaloid regions) connectome of the amygdala. Its structure as well as its local and global network parameters depend on the arrangement of neuronal entities in the ontology. The intrinsic amygdala connectome is a small-world and scale-free network. The anterior cortical nucleus (72 in- and out-going edges), the posterior nucleus (45), and the anterior basomedial nucleus (44) are the nuclear regions that posses most in- and outdegrees. The posterior nucleus turns out to be the most important nucleus of the intrinsic amygdala network since its Shapley rate is minimal. Within the intrinsic amygdala, regions were determined that are essential for network integrity. These regions are important for behavioral (processing of emotions and motivation) and functional (memory) performances of the amygdala as reported in other studies

Effect of a high-voltage mesh electrode on the volume and surface characteristics of pulsed dielectric barrier discharges

Electrical breakdown in a pulsed asymmetric dielectric barrier discharge between a glass-covered mesh electrode and a grounded metal electrode in the air at atmospheric pressure is investigated. Volume discharge forms between the metal tip and the dielectric surface and spreads over the dielectric surface. Breakdown and discharge behaviors depend on the polarity of the charged electrode covered with glass compared to the metal rod electrode. In the case of the dielectric cathode (covered mesh), volume discharge features a stronger and longer-lasting emission. Volume discharge is weaker with outstretched surface discharge developing on the opposite glass electrode sustained by the embedded mesh when the metal rod functions as a cathode. The development and spatial distribution of the surface discharge depend on the relative polarity of the dielectrics caused by the charge deposition of the preceding discharge and is independent of the polarity of the applied high voltage. The discharge emission is brighter for the metal cathode and dielectric anode than for the metal anode, with a branching discharge developing and spreading in a star-like structure along the embedded grid, while a ring-like structure was observed for the metal anode and dielectric cathode. The duty cycle influences the discharge development and properties through the effects of the gas phase and surface pre-ionization
