Creative Relations
Through reporting about a project with male home carers, Iâm going to present some of the interactions which took place between myself (as the artist) and the participants as we got to know each other, and became part of each otherâs lives. The text takes the form of a series of extracts taken directly from my own personal journals followed by a commentary on each. These have been selected to highlight the similarities between Ingoldâs descriptions of creativity and Kesterâs model for a dialogical aesthetic, which highlights key points in the engagement processes of a socially engaged artist. These reflective notes, made while the experiences were still fresh in my mind, help to illustrate the impact not only on the participants but also upon the artist as a participant in the social process
Characterization of potential biomarkers of reactogenicity of licensed antiviral vaccines: randomized controlled clinical trials conducted by the BIOVACSAFE consortium

Within the BIOVACSAFE framework, we conducted three identically designed, placebo-controlled inpatient/outpatient clinical studies (NCT01765413/NCT01771354/NCT01771367). Six antiviral vaccination strategies were evaluated to generate training data-sets of pre-/post-vaccination vital signs, blood changes and whole-blood gene transcripts, and to identify putative biomarkers of early inflammation/reactogenicity that could guide the design of subsequent focused confirmatory studies. Healthy adults (N = 123; 20â21/group) received one immunization at Day (D)0. Alum-adjuvanted hepatitis B vaccine elicited vital signs and inflammatory (CRP/innate cells) responses that were similar between primed/naive vaccinees, and low-level gene responses. MF59-adjuvanted trivalent influenza vaccine (ATIV) induced distinct physiological (temperature/heart rate/reactogenicity) response-patterns not seen with non-adjuvanted TIV or with the other vaccines. ATIV also elicited robust early (D1) activation of IFN-related genes (associated with serum IP-10 levels) and innate-cell-related genes, and changes in monocyte/neutrophil/lymphocyte counts, while TIV elicited similar but lower responses. Due to viral replication kinetics, innate gene activation by live yellow-fever or varicella-zoster virus (YFV/VZV) vaccines was more suspended, with early IFN-associated responses in naĂŻve YFV-vaccine recipients but not in primed VZV-vaccine recipients. Inflammatory responses (physiological/serum markers, innate-signaling transcripts) are therefore a function of the vaccine type/composition and presence/absence of immune memory. The data reported here have guided the design of confirmatory Phase IV trials using ATIV to provide tools to identify inflammatory or reactogenicity biomarkers.Peer reviewe
HITRAP: A facility at GSI for highly charged ions
An overview and status report of the new trapping facility for highly charged
ions at the Gesellschaft fuer Schwerionenforschung is presented. The
construction of this facility started in 2005 and is expected to be completed
in 2008. Once operational, highly charged ions will be loaded from the
experimental storage ring ESR into the HITRAP facility, where they are
decelerated and cooled. The kinetic energy of the initially fast ions is
reduced by more than fourteen orders of magnitude and their thermal energy is
cooled to cryogenic temperatures. The cold ions are then delivered to a broad
range of atomic physics experiments.Comment: 8 pages, 11 figure

Correcting for the Effects of Interstellar Extinction
This paper addresses the issue of how best to correct astronomical data for
the wavelength-dependent effects of Galactic interstellar extinction. The main
general features of extinction from the IR through the UV are reviewed, along
with the nature of observed spatial variations. The enormous range of
extinction properties found in the Galaxy, particularly in the UV spectral
region, is illustrated. Fortunately, there are some tight constraints on the
wavelength dependence of extinction and some general correlations between
extinction curve shape and interstellar environment. These relationships
provide some guidance for correcting data for the effects of extinction.
Several strategies for dereddening are discussed along with estimates of the
uncertainties inherent in each method. In the Appendix, a new derivation of the
wavelength dependence of an average Galactic extinction curve from the IR
through the UV is presented, along with a new estimate of how this extinction
law varies with the parameter R = A(V)/E(B-V). These curves represent the true
monochromatic wavelength dependence of extinction and, as such, are suitable
for dereddening IR--UV spectrophotometric data of any resolution, and can be

We descibe the calibration of maps of diffuse Galactic Plane emission, and present detailed observations of several complexes. We put especial atention on Cygnus X region showing its temperature and density maps
Investigation of the Exclusive 3He(e,e'pp)n Reaction
Cross sections for the 3He(e,e'pp)n reaction were measured over a wide range
of energy and three- momentum transfer. At a momentum transfer q=375 MeV/c,
data were taken at transferred energies omega ranging from 170 to 290 MeV. At
omega=220 MeV, measurements were performed at three q values (305, 375, and 445
MeV/c). The results are presented as a function of the neutron momentum in the
final-state, as a function of the energy and momentum transfer, and as a
function of the relative momentum of the two-proton system. The data at neutron
momenta below 100 MeV/c, obtained for two values of the momentum transfer at
omega=220 MeV, are well described by the results of continuum-Faddeev
calculations. These calculations indicate that the cross section in this domain
is dominated by direct two-proton emission induced by a one-body hadronic
current. Cross section distributions determined as a function of the relative
momentum of the two protons are fairly well reproduced by continuum-Faddeev
calculations based on various realistic nucleon-nucleon potential models. At
higher neutron momentum and at higher energy transfer, deviations between data
and calculations are observed that may be due to contributions of isobar

Bodily relations and reciprocity in the art of Sonia Khurana
This article explores the significance of the âsomaticâ and âontological turnâ in locating the radical politics articulated in the contemporary performance, installation, video and digital art practices of New Delhi-based artist, Sonia Khurana (b. 1968). Since the late 1990s Khurana has fashioned a range of artworks that require new sorts of reciprocal and embodied relations with their viewers. While this line of art practice suggests the need for a primarily philosophical mode of inquiry into an art of the body, such affective relations need to be historicised also in relation to a discursive field of âdifferenceâ and public expectations about the artistâs ethnic, gendered and national identity. Thus, this intimate, visceral and emotional field of inter- and intra-action is a novel contribution to recent transdisciplinary perspectives on the gendered, social and sentient body, that in turn prompts a wider debate on the ethics of cultural commentary and art historiography
First Results on In-Beam gamma Spectroscopy of Neutron-Rich Na and Mg Isotopes at REX-ISOLDE
After the successful commissioning of the radioactive beam experiment at
ISOLDE (REX-ISOLDE) - an accelerator for exotic nuclei produced by ISOLDE -
first physics experiments using these beams were performed. Initial experiments
focused on the region of deformation in the vicinity of the neutron-rich Na and
Mg isotopes. Preliminary results show the high potential and physics
opportunities offered by the exotic isotope accelerator REX in conjunction with
