Sterile neutrino signals from supernovae
We investigate the effects of a mixing of active and sterile neutrinos on the
ratios of supernova electron neutrino flux () and antineutrino flux
() to the total flux of the other neutrino and antineutrino
flavours (). We assume that the heaviest (in the normal hierarchy)
Standard Model neutrino mixes with a sterile neutrino resulting in a
pair of mass eigenstates with a small mass gap. Using the density matrix
formalism we solve numerically the the evolution of neutrino states in the
envelope of a supernova and determine the flux ratios and
as a function of the active-sterile mixing angle and for the
experimentally allowed range of the standard active-active mixing angle

Particle Number Fluctuations in Statistical Model with Exact Charge Conservation Laws
Even though the first momenta i.e. the ensemble average quantities in
canonical ensemble (CE) give the grand canonical (GC) results in large
multiplicity limit, the fluctuations involving second moments do not respect
this asymptotic behaviour. Instead, the asymptotics are strikingly different,
giving a new handle in study of statistical particle number fluctuations in
relativistic nuclear reactions. Here we study the analytical large volume
asymptotics to general case of multispecies hadron gas carrying fixed baryon
number, strangeness and electric charge. By means of Monte Carlo simulations we
have also studied the general multiplicity probability distributions taking

Landau-Zener problem in a three-level neutrino system with non-linear time dependence
We consider the level-crossing problem in a three-level system with
non-linearly time-varying Hamiltonian (time-dependence ). We study the
validity of the so-called independent crossing approximation in the
Landau-Zener model by making comparison with results obtained numerically in
density matrix approach. We also demonstrate the failure of the so-called
"nearest zero" approximation of the Landau-Zener level-crossing probability

Statistical Hadronization of Supercooled Quark-Gluon Plasma
The fast simultaneous hadronization and chemical freeze out of supercooled
quark-gluon plasma, created in relativistic heavy ion collisions, leads to the
re-heating of the expanding matter and to the change in a collective flow
profile. We use the assumption of statistical nature of the hadronization
process, and study quantitatively the freeze out in the framework of
hydrodynamical Bjorken model with different quark-gluon plasma equations of

Thermal Correlators in Holographic Models with Lifshitz scaling
We study finite temperature effects in two distinct holographic models that
exhibit Lifshitz scaling, looking to identify model independent features in the
dual strong coupling physics. We consider the thermodynamics of black branes
and find different low-temperature behavior of the specific heat. Deformation
away from criticality leads to non-trivial temperature dependence of
correlation functions and we study how the characteristic length scale in the
two point function of scalar operators varies as a function of temperature and

Overpopulation of in pp collisions: a way to distinguish statistical hadronization from string dynamics
The ratio originating from string decays is predicted
to be larger than unity in proton proton interactions at SPS energies (=160 GeV). The anti-omega dominance increases with decreasing beam energy.
This surprising behavior is caused by the combinatorics of quark-antiquark
production in small and low-mass strings. Since this behavior is not found in a
statistical description of hadron production in proton proton collisions, it
may serve as a key observable to probe the hadronization mechanism in such

CHARACTERISATION AND IN VITRO AND IN VIVO EVALUATION OF SUPERCRITICAL-CO2-FOAMED B-TCP/PLCL COMPOSITES FOR BONE APPLICATIONS
Most synthetic bone grafts are either hard and brittle ceramics or paste-like materials that differ in applicability from the gold standard autologous bone graft, which restricts their widespread use. Therefore, the aim of the study was to develop an elastic, highly porous and biodegradable beta-tricalciumphosphate/poly(L-lactide-co-epsilon-caprolactone) (beta-TCP/PLCL) composite for bone applications using supercritical CO2 foaming. Ability to support osteogenic differentiation was tested in human adipose stem cell (hASC) culture for 21 d. Biocompatibility was evaluated for 24 weeks in a rabbit femur-defect model. Foamed composites had a high ceramic content (50 wt%) and porosity (65-67 %). After 50 % compression, in an aqueous environment at 37 degrees C, tested samples returned to 95 % of their original height. Hydrolytic degradation of beta-TCP/PLCL composite, during the 24-week follow-up, was very similar to that of porous PLCL scaffold both in vitro and in vivo. Osteogenic differentiation of hASCs was demonstrated by alkaline phosphatase activity analysis, alizarin red staining, soluble collagen analysis, immunocytochemical staining and qRT-PCR. In vitro, hASCs formed a pronounced mineralised collagen matrix. A rabbit femur defect model confirmed biocompatibility of the composite. According to histological Masson-Goldner's trichrome staining and micro-computed tomography, beta-TCP/PLCL composite did not elicit infection, formation of fibrous capsule or cysts. Finally, native bone tissue at 4 weeks was already able to grow on and in the beta-TCP/PLCL composite. The elastic and highly porous beta-TCP/PLCL composite is a promising bone substitute because it is osteoconductive and easy-to-use and mould intraoperatively.Peer reviewe
Multiplicity Distributions in Canonical and Microcanonical Statistical Ensembles
The aim of this paper is to introduce a new technique for calculation of
observables, in particular multiplicity distributions, in various statistical
ensembles at finite volume. The method is based on Fourier analysis of the
grand canonical partition function. Taylor expansion of the generating function
is used to separate contributions to the partition function in their power in
volume. We employ Laplace's asymptotic expansion to show that any equilibrium
distribution of multiplicity, charge, energy, etc. tends to a multivariate
normal distribution in the thermodynamic limit. Gram-Charlier expansion allows
additionally for calculation of finite volume corrections. Analytical formulas
are presented for inclusion of resonance decay and finite acceptance effects
directly into the system partition function. This paper consolidates and
extends previously published results of current investigation into properties

A supernova constraint on bulk majorons
In models with large extra dimensions all gauge singlet fields can in
principle propagate in the extra dimensional space. We have investigated
possible constraints on majoron models of neutrino masses in which the majorons
propagate in extra dimensions. It is found that astrophysical constraints from
supernovae are many orders of magnitude stronger than previous accelerator
bounds. Our findings suggest that unnatural types of the "see-saw" mechanism
for neutrino masses are unlikely to occur in nature, even in the presence of
