    The Optical/Near-Infrared Light Curves of SN 2002ap for the First 1.5 Years after Discovery

    Late-time BVRIJHK photometry of the peculiar Type Ic SN 2002ap, taken between 2002 June 12 and 2003 August 29 with the MAGNUM telescope, is presented. The light curve decline rate is derived in each band and the color evolution is studied through comparison with nebular spectra and with SN 1998bw. Using the photometry, the OIR bolometric light curve is built, extending from before light maximum to day 580 after explosion. The light curve has a late-time shape strikingly similar to that of the hypernova SN 1998bw. The decline rate changes from 0.018 mag/day between day 130 and 230 to 0.014 mag/day between day 270 and 580. To reproduce the late-time light curve, a dense core must be added to the 1-D hypernova model that best fits the early-time observations, bringing the ejecta mass from 2.5 Msun to 3 Msun without much change in the kinetic energy, which is 4 times 10^51 ergs. This is similar to the case of other hypernovae and suggests asymmetry. A large H-band bump developed in the spectral energy distribution after about day 300, probably caused by strong [Si I] 1.646 micron and 1.608 micron emissions. The near-infrared flux contribution increased simultaneously from 50% at day 580. The near-infrared light curves were compared with those of other Type Ib/c supernovae, among which SN 1983I seems similar to SN 2002ap both in the near-infrared and in the optical.Comment: 24pages, 9 figures, ApJ in press (10 June 2006, v644 1 issue).     BACKGROUND:The bi1ayer gelatin sealing sheet was developed as a safe, effective, easy-to-handle and low-cost hemostatic agent. OBJECTIVE:To examine the feasibility of gelatin sealing sheets using a canine aterial hemorrhage mode1. METHODS:In vivo degradation of gelatin sealing sheets was examined by implanting subcutaneously in rats. For the hemostatic and anti-adhesion efficacy investigations, femoral arteries of dogs were pricked with syringe needle to make as mall hole, and a gelatin(i.e. experimental group) or fibrin glue sealing sheet (i.e. control group) was applied on the hole to stop bleeding (n=8). After discontinuation of the bleeding, the skin incisions were closed and re-examined 4 weeks postoperatively. RESULTS:From the degradation study, 4h thermally treated gelatin sheet which degraded within 3 weeks in vivo was chosen for the further hemostatic study. In all cases of gelatin and fibrin glue sealing sheets, bleeding from the needle hole on canine femoral arteries was effectively stopped. Postoperative adhesions and inflammation at the site in the experimental group were significantly less than those in the control group (P<0.01 for adhesion scores). CONCLUSIONS:The gelatin sealing sheet was found to be as effective as the fibrin glue sealing sheet as a surgical hemostatic agent, and more effective in preventing postoperative adhesions.博士(医学)・甲第632号・平成27年3月16日Copyright ©2015 IOS Pres

    Effectiveness of Cross‐Linked Gelatin Glue in Canine Lung Surgery Models.

    Background. Air leakage is a common postoperative complication in pulmonary surgery, and surgical sealants have been developed to prevent or reduce the incidence of air leaks. In this study, we evaluated the efficacy of cross-linked gelatin glue (gelatin plus glutaraldehyde) in canine lung surgery models. Methods. Pulmonary fistulas and injuries were created in dogs and sealed with gelatin glue, fibrin glue, or fibrin glue with a polyglycolic acid (PGA) sheet. Seal-breaking pressures were measured in the fistula model, and pleural adhesions were assessed 28 days postoperatively in the lung injury model. Results. The seal-breaking pressures for canine cadaver and living lung surgeries (; the maximum pressures were 80 and 40 cm H₂O) were respectively: gelatin glue, 77 ± 6 and 32.3 ± 8.9cm H₂O; fibrin glue using spray, 39.2 ± 9.3 and 32 ± 6cm H₂O; fibrin glue using the rub-and-soak method, 35 ± 13.4 and 40 ± 0 cm H₂O; and fibrin glue with a PGA sheet, 55.5 ± 18.2 and 39 ± 2cm H₂O. In the lung injury model, there were no chest wall adhesions in the gelatin and fibrin glue alone groups, while strong adhesions were observed when treated with fibrin glue with a PGA sheet. Conclusions. Gelatin glue's sealing effect was superior to that of fibrin glue while preventing postoperative pleural adhesions. These findings suggest that gelatin glue may be effective as a surgical sealant or anti-adhesion materialin lung surgery

    Simple and rapid detection method for qepA1 by loop-mediated isothermal amplification

    Although fluoroquinolone (FQ) has been used for the treatment of various bacterial infectious diseases, its continued use has been problematic given the appearance of FQ-resistant bacteria. However, the recent discovery of four plasmid-mediated quinolone resistance (PMQR) genes comprising qnr, aac(6\u27)Ib-cr, qepA and OqxAB since 1998 has provided insights in the area of FQ-resistance. For practical detection of qepA in microbiology laboratory, a specific, simple, rapid and cost-effective isothermal amplification method designated as LAMP is the good candidate to use. In this study, the development of a new detection method using LAMP to identify qepA1, one variant of the qepA gene, was tried. As the results, the LAMP method using a qepA1-specific LAMP primer set comprising five primerscould detect all four qepA1-positive strains in addition to 17 qepA1-negative strains. The LAMP method is clearly much more advantageous for use in clinical laboratories. Furthermore, the time and accuracy benefits allow for the selection of antibiotics in a clinical setting

    Zinc is a novel intracellular second messenger

    Zinc is an essential trace element required for enzymatic activity and for maintaining the conformation of many transcription factors; thus, zinc homeostasis is tightly regulated. Although zinc affects several signaling molecules and may act as a neurotransmitter, it remains unknown whether zinc acts as an intracellular second messenger capable of transducing extracellular stimuli into intracellular signaling events. In this study, we report that the cross-linking of the high affinity immunoglobin E receptor (Fcɛ receptor I [FcɛRI]) induced a release of free zinc from the perinuclear area, including the endoplasmic reticulum in mast cells, a phenomenon we call the zinc wave. The zinc wave was dependent on calcium influx and mitogen-activated protein kinase/extracellular signal-regulated kinase kinase activation. The results suggest that the zinc wave is involved in intracellular signaling events, at least in part by modulating the duration and strength of FcɛRI-mediated signaling. Collectively, our findings indicate that zinc is a novel intracellular second messenger

    Import 05/08/2014Tato diplomová práce je zaměřena na problematiku při zatříďování venkovních prostorů do environmentálních zón z pohledu rušivého světla. Energetická vyspělost společnosti dnes umožňuje pro bezpečnost obyvatel během celých nocí osvětlovat silnice či pěší zóny, ale osvětlují se také památky a místa, u kterých by stálo za to se zamyslet, zda je opravdu potřeba na ně během nocí takto plýtvat elektrickou energií. Nejde však pouze o zbytečně spotřebovanou elektrickou energii. Jde především o případné negativní účinky na lidi a celý ekosystém, které venkovní světelné zdroje během nocí způsobují. Hlavním cílem praktické části této diplomové práci je řešit otázku nejrůznějších úskalí a kompromisů při přiřazování odpovídající environmentální zóny městu Studénce. Toto město skýtá několik zajímavých překážek pro správnou volbu environmentální zóny, které souvisí především s jeho polohou. Po přezkoumání všech kritérií a konečném zařazení města Studénky do odpovídající environmentální zóny práce pokračuje vytvořením návrhu nové osvětlovací soustavy pro fotbalový stadion v tomto městě, a to za předpokladu dodržení normativních požadavků podle předcházejícího zatřídění Studénky.The focus of this thesis deals with the proposal of environmental zones in outdoor areas as it relates to lighting. In these areas where public safety is not an issue, an energy conservation program could be considered. Not only should the unnecessary consumption of electricity be accounted for when deciding illumination requirements, but also the possible negative affects on humans and the entire ecosystem at night time, outdoor lighting may cause. From this perspective, an important aspect of this work is the different normative requirements for the correct classification of the sites in defined environmental zones. Knowledge and data is applied when recommending a specific environmental zone classification, while keeping in sight the isssues from the perspective of the Czech Republic and the concerns of the municipal significance for the city or town. The main goal of the practical part of this thesis is to address the issues of various difficulties and compromises in assigning the appropriate environmental zones of Studenka city. Mainly due to its location, this city offers some interesting obstacles when deciding the most reasonable selection of environmental zones. After reviewing all of the criteria and assigning final classifications for the zones in Studenka city, corresponding environmental work continues by creating a proposal for a new lighting system for the football stadium in the city while continuing compliance with the standards of the previous classification of Studenka.410 - Katedra elektroenergetikyvýborn
